I remember reading that Mata isn't on wages comparable with Terry, Lampard, Torres or even Ash, Drogba. I think he earns somewhere in the region of £70,000 p/w. Still a lot of money, but not much given he is our most effective player.

We didn't know he would be when he signed though, and I guess the amount reflects that. If he builds upon this season in the coming years and improves then he would deserve - and would no doubt get - an increase.

Great Value for money when you consider Djourou is on £50K a week at Arsenal

Obv w/ FFP they've been moving wages down, which is why there's been big emphasis on the newer players like Luiz, Ramires, Mata etc being on 60k, Cahill was supposed to be on the same, but we know what happened there.

Signing Hulk I would assume would mean yet another gamble on a player commanding more than £100k a week?

pretty sure on an effectiveness rating Lampard and mata would be close to equal. if chelsea is trying to impose a basic wage cap and I think they are with the current purchases bar torres all on 70k or below I'm thinking they will only blow it if they think the player is worth it or roman wants him badly. in terms of hulk, yes he struggles against better teams, yes he is 1 dimensional and yes he doesnt really do much work outside of his attacking area but guess what he is the type of player that will finish off weaker teams, going up against a qpr or norwich? hulk will win those games for you, because you can't let the guy free to drift and putting 1 fullback isn't enough, he is too quick and too strong. so that drags 2 players away to reduce space in the middle for balls to slip through, if they use a midfielder to pick him up then suddenly Lampard is free in the centre.

those kinds of knock on effects are impossible to ignore for smaller teams because the fullbacks that can keep up with hulk in speed can't match him on strength, if you have somewhere stronger they can't keep up with him running at them. against better teams those teams can afford to pick up hulk because they have quality of near equal ability to chelsea's across the pitch, those lower level teams dont.

in the end of it, if chelsea had won more of its "easy" games they wouldnt be 6th. hulk wouldnt guarantee first but he bullies teams enough to make up that massive 25 gap we had this season, he is worth at least 15 of those points alone.

Interesting point, this is something that has been criticised of Ronaldo in the past, but now I think he is beginning to show he's better than that.

Back to Hulk though, I think he'd be great for us. Could make the difference with his strength, pace and unpredictable shooting/dribbling.

on this wage issue,
Mata is a young player and accordingly his salary is not comparable to people who have been at the club for a long term ( Lampard, Terry, Drogba, Cech). If he keeps up this initial form, he will be offered better wages with contract extensions in no time. That is how the system works.
and please dont compare with Arsenal. Arsenal are known to give insanely high wages to young players to attract them to the club. But they dont differentiate a lot amongst players (that should explain bendtner at 60k and rvp at 90k). This higher salary to young players is the main reason why so many young players opt for arsenal. I remember during the Aaron Ramsey saga, they were able to beat United only because they offered twice the salary that United were offering. This works for them both ways. They are able to attract players but if the player doesnt perform, they are unable to offload them (bendtner at 60k is an example)

A good compilation of goals, This video has a certain "goodbye and thank you for everything" mood, it appears inevitable now.

This guy is such a beast and would be an incredible signing. If it was a choice between him and Hazard, I'd go with the Hulk any day.

I'd prefer Hulk too, but, Hazard is so much younger, you'd think that maybe it could be more value for money.. that's still a maybe though.

We got Robben at 20 & Drogba at 26 & look.
However, I think we should get both in addition to Falcao, we already have Marin & then after a RB signing, or whatever.. we can call it a night.

If we actually get the trio you mentioned by miracle, we will no doubt have the ability to fight for all the trophies next season.

Hulk Mikel Ramires(Lampard) Hazard(Marin)
Mata
Falcao(Torres)

INSANE!
