Fernando Torres

...I don't want to bash any of our players but...isn't this just incredibly hypocritical? We didn't pay 50 million pounds for 12 goals in one and a half years. Maybe he should view things from another perspective. Grow Up Fernando. Chelsea is more important than any player.

Be honest with yourselves, anyone here... in his position would be massively disappointed to not start.

While I agree it shows great desire, most of us would be able to appreciate this more if he didn't add on whether he would 'consider his future'. It's slightly disappointing to see these comments so soon after the greatest night in our history but if we read the interview again, we see he says he's very happy etc. I think too much is being read into it and obviously the media would blow it out of proportion.
Obviously this isn't how Torres envisaged his move to Chelsea would be, he thought he'd be the main man. I'm just glad he still has the desire to get top dog and was so so evident in his disappointment at not being able to take one of the penalties. Rewatched the shootout (for the millionth time) and he looked genuinely disappointed when he read the list from behind RDM.

Absolutely
However I doubt I would've gone to the press openly about it.
I call shenanigans on a lot of it, clever questions from Giam etc. Torres enjoyed the celebrations and the parade didn't he? Good player, I thought 50m was well overpriced and I still do, I also thought he would struggle with us yes I didn't want him, but slowly he was winning me over... If the toys truly come out of the pram we should sell and replace but I think it's just clever (sneaky?) journalism rather than someone wanting to leave.
Give Nando a chance and lets see what happens next season. We need to sort out a rather more important position before we deal with the players first, though looks like Drogba is first in the queue...... Poor Torres lol.......

I'm sure he was happy enough to take the win bonus though. I've said this before but man up Torres and fight for the shirt, or ship out. You're not in Liverpool now and you're not the only striker in town.

This club needs a player like Falcao, a destructive striker who can score by farting.

I'm sure we're already on it.

But he (inadvertantly?) points to a wider issue. If we're playing 4-3-3 then there is only room for one striker. Drogba? Torres? Sturridge?
With the signings of KDB and Marin, perhaps the wide issues are now resolved, and Torres and Sturridge can fight for the CF role. While I disagree with the poster who thinks Drogba only does it when he wants to (look at his stats), it could be time to move on and make a fresh start. Drogba is like Lampard, one-of-a-kind, and it depends on which direction we're going in, and which manager we have.
For me, it'd be very very hard but I'd let Drogba go and start afresh with Torres, Sturridge and perhaps one other striker vying for the CF spot. But then, what do I know?

Now hang on there for second. So Drogba shouldn't have started? or should have started on the right? since we have already established that Torres is pretty rubbish on the right and the left the only place he could have played would have down the middle instead of Drogba. Continuing this further 442 ? so we change everything around just to accomodate one player?
He is acting like an ingrate, a petulant friggin ingrate at a time when we are all happy to aknowledge his contribution, however little, to getting us the title. It would have been better to post him to some mid table Spanish club and recoup half his fcucken wages. We could get his 12 goals from Sturridge and Kalou with just as ease.
This arrogance is true, worries me about this guy. He either moves to quash this or he moves; I dont think we want this kind of hubris in the dressing room.

That's true about him being disappointed, but even taking away the bad timing of it I still think its ridiculous to talk to the media. I would bet money that he did it because he's too cowardly to tell Di Matteo that. He might as well just say he wants to leave.
And he's more deluded than all the scousers put together if he thinks he could have scored that Drogba goal!

Sorry, but is this the thread from May 2011?

And you actually think, Falcao would score for fun with players like Sturridge, Malouda, Kalou etc. behind him? With no moving midfield? With no playmakers?
Btw. who of our strikers had 20+ goals this season? Who was standing out? No one. Didi in the last ones, yes, but the whole season? Nobody.
Get a grip, it´s NOT Torres fault.
