Unlikely, the PC will almost certainly be at Cobham and only when the staff are back from holidays. Interview tonight will be from a room inside SB somewhere.

This is easily the best day I've had for quite a long time. Just discovered that I got a 2:1 in my final year exams at university and Chelsea have appointed one of the best and most promising young managers in Europe. It will be fantastic having a eloquent, passionate and tactically-astute manager on the touchline again. Whatever happens next year, it's not going to be dull!

Congrats!

Absolutely delighted with this news!

As much as I like Guus, we have needed to look to the future for a long time now and bringing in a guy in his 60's who already has doubts over being a full-time club manager could never be anything resembling a long term appointment. We now have one of the most sought after and exciting young managers in the world with a growing reputation every day.

Will be interested to see if he does bring anyone with him from Porto. I like Falcao although feel he's a bit too similar to Torres style wise. Big fan of Moutinho though. I guess what I really want right now is to get our hands on Modric from those nasty Spurs ;)

Welcome back Mr AVB!!

It's true. The club has been given another chance to mend its past mistakes with Mourinho, an up an coming manager then. With AvB it is time to redeem themselves. This is their last chance.

And once again Graeme Souness proves why he couldn't make it as a manager.
Idiot.
I'd put alot of money on AVB having more managerial knowledge and talent in his little toe than Souness has in his entire body.

Fantastic appointment for us, I'm both delighted and really excited by it. 2 or 3 decent signings and a good pre-season and I've no doubt we'll be enjoying a successful season this year.

hehe - his first words are "I was at Benefica for 2 years".

Wikipediasays :

Quote

Benfica
In 1997, Souness was signed by S.L. Benfica's new chairman Vale e Azevedo, who promised to return the club to its old glories. The Scottish manager brought several British players from the Premier League (defenders Steve Harkness and Gary Charles, midfielders Michael Thomas and Mark Pembridge and forwards Dean Saunders and Brian Deane) as well as refusing to sign emerging talent Deco. After two unsuccessful seasons, Souness was sacked. All of Benfica's British footballers (including the previously signed left-back Scott Minto) also left the club.

He also worked for Liverpool for 3 years, a point that Carragher is always keen to mention.

Great news! Hope he's the kryptonite for our UCL situation and Romans trigger finger! May he live long and prosper at the Bridge :)

I'm personally very pleased about the appointment, it almost seems like we're finally getting back on track after letting Mourinho get away although we've been succesful in recent seasons it's almost felt like we've been treading water for ages.

Now, please Roman , can we have some wingers?

Sounds like envy to me. Secondly, he states that Ancelotti didn't make any mistakes last season, and due to 'circumstances' things didn't go his way. I think that is probably the most common excuse anyone can make for themselves. Besides, Ancelotti himself has said that it was his fault for effing things up last season. I'm sorry but nobody is going to get me down on this. Villas-Boas is a fantastic appointment by the club - one that did require some balls. Hopefully AVB is here for seasons to come.

I also feel it was very rude that Souness calls him a novice. Regardless of the strength of Porto (who by the way finished 4th the season prior), he broke some amazing records - ones that even Jose didn't. So as far as I am concerned, I'm just going to give Souness the finger and move on.

Rude and downright arrogant, especially coming from a completely average manager. I wonder if Souness has seen the 'leaked' scouting report AVB put together for his Newcastle side. Had them completely figured out.

I'm already getting annoyed with the comments about AVB not being able to manage the stars because he never played. Have people learnt nothing from Jose? IMO, not having played puts him in a BETTER position. There's no risk of him over-relating with them, they don't need to respect his accomplishments as a player. Some of the best managers were very average players, look at Hiddink. AVB's been focusing on the coaching aspect for far longer than most players who go into management, and has more experience than Hughes, Van Basten, and other managers who the media claimed would get immediate respect for our squad. It's part of this anti-intellectual theme that, IMO, also holds the English youth development system back.

Way to go!

I'm with you, I came home from writing my last bar exam last night to hear about this! A good thing, because I've now got a few weeks off and would've likely spent most of it obsessing about who would take over.
