Here's an extract from Lucas's Wiki page. It tells all you need to know about the likely quality of the information contained there: -

"Liverpool FC has made their interest known in acquiring the services of Lucas on Jaunary 25th 2012. Lucas has gone on to state in his homeland of Brazil that he is receptive to a move to Liverpool, but only in the summer transfer window. It is widely known however that Liverpool FC do not attract quality players, and therefor this story is likely to have been made up by a depressed Liverpool fan."

That made me chuckle.

I know Brazilian clubs have got more money than before but with Sao Paulo signing Jadson and now Nilmar probably I feel there might be something more about Lucas at the end of the window.I mean I do remember reading that Sao Paulo were able to finance the Luis Fabiano deal because of the money they got from the Piazon transfer.Of course I could and probably will be wrong...but its just a feeling.

I'm not too sure how much impact a young, lean Brazilian who's never played out of his own country before could have on a team in England when joining in January. No pre-season and straight into the middle of a British winter (as well as into a team that's struggling and probably not suited to his playing style), I highly doubt he would settle very quickly, and I don't see why we can't wait until the summer.

We can wait with Lucas but the adapting to life maybe.. but I've always been of the belief that if they are good they will do well regardless.. the Ball is the same shape and the game is the same. The level is higher but I'm sure the same was thought about Pato and all the others than came before him. Seem to have all done well. Although I agree Lucas and Hazard would make great summer buys I still think Willian would be the best bet in January.

Lucas- "I have two objectives; playing at the Olympics and then for Inter Milan".

#heavy sigh# Is it safe to say we have lost another one?

Their quoted source is La Gazzetta dello Sport, although I'm finding difficult to locate anything about it on the paper's actual website.

Whether or not this story is accurate, our chances of getting this bloke are not, and never were, that good. Players of his talent will always have options and, particularly for Latin footballers, other clubs and other leagues will usually be higher up their preference list.

I've no problem with the club chasing the most coveted youngsters as long as we also target players who can improve our squad and who we are more likely to be able to sign. In other words, the fantasy "plan A" is fine but be sure you have a more realistic "plan B" in place too.

I really like the guy but if Mata is going to play the 10-role we need a winger rather than Lucas.

A winger like Robben? Tell me how Robben differs to Lucas?

Let's pretend for a minute that the quote is 100% accurate.......

South American players will choose Spain or Italy over England 99/100 because the cultural and language similarities between SA and Latin Europe. Not point getting hot and bothered about it. This is fact. I haven't even touched on the work permit issues in the UK either.

It's true. How many successful South American attacking players have we seen here in England? Not many and when they do pop up they can't wait leave for Spain or Italy. Compare it to how many those two leagues have seen and it's staggering

It's sad that we're being snubbed for the only big team that's more pathetic than us at the moment but oh well. Who knows though those quotes might not even be real, it's weird to see players be that direct these days

In my opinion Lucas is the better player.

There seems to be a revisionist movement which is now claiming that Robbie was better here than was actually the case. Yes his trick worked a couple of times the other night but let's remember that we didn't fight to hold him when Madrid came in. Real, in their turn, were happy to move him on and Bayern have now fallen out of love with him too. Robbie can play but let's not elevate him to a level which is beyond reality.

Meanwhile, with Sahqiri heading to Munich next season, Robbie might be available once more. Would you? He'd be an improvement on what we have now so I'd consider it seriously particularly if we cannot attract/afford a better alternative. If he did return however I'm betting people would soon remember some of the things they seem to have forgotten about his limits.
