Well I remember "dirty Leeds" but I think they're too big to languish in the doldrums.

I hated Leeds but then I go back to the sixties. It IS great to see them back though. I so look forward to roasting them home and away and see them suffer for many years before they end up getting relegated again.

Yeah, strange.  Nine tenths he has rescued them, but it is not all over yet.  
My guess is that Pearson started making demands about next season and the chairman read him the riot act and it just got out of control.
I think for many many teams the gap between "what we have to do to stay up next seasons" and "what we have to do to stay out of bankruptcy" has never been wider.
