chara Report post Posted July 10, 2021 (edited) Just read of his passing....Chelsea as a Club are judged by the worth of the opposition players. For me Mariner was one of those players you always were wary of although not given the glory status of other forwards (often not warrented) he was worthy of respect. I was at a Wembley game when he was up front for England....after the game I was told by some who had only seen the game on tv how ineffectual he had been...I WAS there and thought what a good game he had ...it's not all about that spectacular goals...his movement and positional play had been top class. blueandproud Report post Posted July 10, 2021 RIP Paul Mariner. A very underrated striker in a terrific Ipswich side which deserved to win the title more than that dull Aston Villa side did.
