Martin1905 Report post Posted September 25, 2021 2 very good teams with 2 very different styles. 1-0 to them today, that's one out of four for them. We could quite easily lose the next three times we play them, or win them all. Almost nothing separates us in terms of the level we are both at.
MikelBlue Report post Posted September 25, 2021 (edited) For me, the difference is for the first time against Pep - especially with all the pundits saying Chelsea are favorites - Tuchel coached like he felt pressure of being proclaimed as favorites to win the league. Part was due to injuries to Mount and subsequently James. Part is due to the fact that Chilwell has struggled to win back his starting shirt (otherwise he’s perfect against City). But all in all, Tuchel wasn’t brave enough to adjust tactics at halftime when clearly we were fairly fortunate not to concede given all the set pieces they had in the first half. We lost because Tuchel wasn’t brave enough. He figured with a then 3 point lead let’s not lose the game and it cost us. CarefreeMuratcan Report post Posted September 25, 2021 (edited) Not particularly unhappy. The season won't be defined by this game. It's the week in week out consistency against the middling weaker teams that wins league titles and we have been much better at that so far. He improves us in some ways, but also weakens us in others. I listened to a podcast the other day that said whilst Ronaldo improved Man Utd's goalscoring ability he would kill their ability to press from the front. Think the same may be true of Lukaku. So far this season (small sample size and all), our main area for improvement are the two 10 positions supporting Lukaku. Hence in retrospect, that partly explains the lean towards a 352 in the last 1.5 games. This exposes Lukaku’s poor pressing even more. Tuchel needs to sort out his tried and tested 3421 which gives us better balance overall.

As you say, the 2 (whoever has played there) have been well below par.

Perhaps not the right tactics, but TT can't and won't get it right every single game. Look at the number of people pre-match asking for pretty much the same starting lineup; hindsight is 20/20. No need to press the panic button just yet - we've got 3 tough fixtures out of the way (4, if you include Arsenal) and need to get a good run of results against the mid table teams. He's not got the skills to single handedly take over a game like Drogba or Costa. He's a player that stands on the shoulders of others. When there's no lily to gild he's a bit superfluous. kratos Report post Posted September 25, 2021 Just got back from the game. Wasn't a good day at the office but if you're gonna lose to City then better to do it now. Needed more of an outlet today when breaking. Timo pulled a couple of times when he could have gone on and was disappointing for the most part. Really needed a Mount or Pulisic today to carry the ball but hey you can't win them all.
