Very good - but not correct.

If you are going to say something is incorrect, shouldn't you be following that with something that is relevant to that point.
that is usually the way dialog works.

Some interesting povs on here... the title is a bit misleading now as the "old" reserve team system is long gone,

As it was the "reserve" side was an almost like for like replacement for injured or lost form players...now it is what? the Development Squad?..a step up from the academy youngsters but only just as far as I can see.

The "squad" system is the set up now with "replacements" from that unit for different tactical approaches and games plus the famous "rotation" approach. The bench appearance for youngsters for "lesser' cup games affording a rest for regulars is probably as close to the "squad" as some get.

I always look for Juni's views on the youngsters and I know you are busy mate but a regular review would be something I for one would follow with much interest...any chance Juni?

He did post 6 times yesterday - in this very thread!!!!
And a few times the day before  I think he made his views clear - not that I agree with him, but since when has that bothered anyone  :)

Go back 5 or so pages.

Juni's excellent blog in on TheChels.net  (I don't think much else happens there nowadays).  It isn't organised well so I use an RSS feed.

The home page:  http://thechels.net/home/

Loan Report :  http://thechels.net/category/youth-reserves/the-loan-report/

Loan watch - which is where the goals they score appear http://thechels.net/loanwatch/

Thanks Droy....knew he posted elsewhere but couldn't remember where....

Long gone are the days when I could go down to the old Welsh Harp youth ground with a couple of mates and watch the kids...Hollins and Chopper among them.

Droy and I have rarely agreed on academy discussions over the years but I always enjoy them for that very reason. I see a lot more than most people are able to but that doesn't mean I'm right nor that I shouldn't ever reconsider my position. I'm right about Guehi though. ;)

Whilst your here, your thoughts on Gilmour, as a player, and the loan to Norwich?

I would always read with interest any view you have about the youngsters.

The problem of course for anyone is projecting ability at academy level to top senior level. Going waaay back I remember watching John Cowen in goal for the juniors and later at Wembley playing for England in a youth WC tournement...an amazing side as I have mentioned in the past....and then he disappeared to all intents and purposes.

Any insight from you would be gratefully read and do you have any "tip" for a future star?

Oh...and Droy is Droy and long may it stay that way !!

I did,

you dodged it, maybe it because there is no strawman response available?

Not if you believe what Eddie Newton said the other day. Purely guess work, but I am certain if Mount had been discarded, he would have risen to the top somewhere else, because he is that good, and that determined. Ditto Reece James.

The previous lot who have been discarded, have not kicked on. Solanke, Chalobah, McEachren, Sinclair, Woods, Mancienne, Bruma.........all the next great hopes who have at best, had resepctable careers, or at worst, didn't make it anywhere.

Matic, Ake, KDB, Lukaku to name a few all brought and put in the academy to mature and develop - what happened there?

the academy is not always about a kid being with the academy since the age of 6

in hindsight should the academy get some credit for Rice's development?
