  1. Arsenal 2 Chelsea 1

Ah the Pulisic chance, so much had happened thereafter I had forgotten. Straight after the restart wasn't it.
  2. Arsenal 2 Chelsea 1

Just like 2017, the officiating played a huge huge part today.
  3. Official: Chelsea Sign Kepa Arrizabalaga

    Interesting. Thanks for sharing.
  4. Frank Lampard Appointed Chelsea Head Coach

Yep. 2017 FA Cup Final revenge is on the agenda this year.
  5. Official: Chelsea Sign Kepa Arrizabalaga

He should have been frozen out after the League Cup Final 2019 shenanigans.
  6. Frank Lampard Appointed Chelsea Head Coach

Very similar feeling to last year's EL Final. All the pressure is on Arsenal to prove something.
  7. Transfer Talk Topic

Any chance of Oblak? Or is that a pipe dream.
  8. Arsenal 2 Chelsea 1

That is incredible to consider. And even in the following trophyless seasons of 2011 and 2014 we mounted significant title challenges that only tailed off near the end of those seasons. The only quiet season in the Roman Era from a challenge front was the infamous 2015-2016 season. When you lay it all out like this it's astonishing. Can never take it for granted.
  9. Arsenal 2 Chelsea 1

If we win it will be the first time in our history we will have gone 4 seasons in a row each with trophy wins. Previous record is 3 seasons between 2004-2007 (which included 5 trophies ofc) and the current period equals our record for now. We are truly spoilt. Even in "transitional" period so to speak we have success that others (others = you know who I mean ;) ) can only dream of.
  10. Chelsea 2 Wolverhampton Wanderers 0

I don't like this. Since the fixtures first came out I said to myself I want the job done before this game or the Liverpool game. Our saving grace is that Wolves can't qualify for CL via league position which lessens their bite.
  11. Liverpool 5 Chelsea 3

That VAR check for our non-goal didn't seem very thorough at all. Probably still offside, but I don't think the frame they showed on TV was the exact moment the pass was made, it was a little after.
  12. Chelsea 2 Manchester City 1

Unsure how to feel about this game. I'm very happy with the win because before the game I would have been happy with 1 point, so 2 extra points against a team others have/will drop points to is priceless in the race for 3rd/4th. But I don't think it's possible to make a sweeping conclusion about where we are in comparison to City is there? City today wasn't "THE CITY". Unless you argue that we played so well we didn't give them a chance to be "THE CITY". But it didn't feel that way to me. It reminds me of the feeling I got from our FA Cup win against Liverpool. If feels great sure and was enjoyable. But like today's game, it doesn't feel like we can take any evidence from it that we are any closer to challenging for the title. Yes that was very disrespectful to us and City, the commentators constantly going on about it as well and then a live interview with Daglish and Klopp after the game. It was like a satire of the whole "Liverpool have extra sympathy in the Football Media" thing, but it actually happened and was real. They sure love the sycophancy towards Liverpool. That's fair enough. I suppose it would have felt less egregious if it wasn't for the pandemic innovations such as video calls being a part of the show. Your comment about our result is spot on and echoes my feelings.

I need to reconfirm with him, but I think my Dad started supporting us because of Ruud's signing as well (and ergo by extension that means it's the same reason I support us as well).
  14. Official: Callum Hudson-Odoi Signs New 5-Year Contract

He direct messaged my Sister on Social Media a few years before he became famous, and messaged her again earlier this season! My Sister rejected him on both occasions haha.
  15. New Stadium Plans

Man Utd to trial barrier seating at Old Trafford for 2020-21 season Hopefully a sign that this will become a trend and I can experience proper standing areas at the Bridge for the first time in my life. Our atmosphere has declined so much during the 2010s decade. I sometimes can't be bothered to go to games anymore solely because the atmosphere is so poor from how it used to be during my childhood and teens in the 2000s. I look back at Season Reviews of the 90s and the crowd burst for a goal had so much more energy and was so much louder. I'd imagine Standing Areas will be inextricably tied to better atmospheres. Bring them on!!! Well overdue.

So I pose another hypothetical question sparked by my rewatching of Season Reviews. If the 1999-2000 team had won the CL would it have been a huge upset or would it have been seen as reasonable considering our quality at the time? Lazio were apparently favourites that season and we handled them ok in the groups. What do you think?
  17. Favourite Chelsea Matches

It's incredible isn't it. We basically turned them into another Spurs. Complimentary 6 goal victory included. In fact I think Spurs' record against us is better than Arsenal's in the Roman Era.

That moment is still burned to my memory, the sharp pain in the gut as the ball went wide. That was when my nearly 14 year old self just threw myself to the floor, head in hands and started crying. Deep down in my soul I still hold on as if that game could be replayed, as if justice could be done. Even just recently I was thinking "well sure they're all older now, if they get all the players out of retirement it would be like the Football Masters tournaments Sky Sports used to do..." 2005 and 2009 CLs will forever be voided to me. Absolute injustices. Oh and while we're on the subject, the 2017 FA Cup Final and 2019 League Cup Final as well. All of the aforementioned games had VAR moments that would have gone our way.

I started watching football properly in 2000-2001. We never beat Arsenal until this game, and we drew them in the FA Cup every season leading up to it as well. This moment was utter bliss after going through all that. That's why I'll never ever take for granted the number we've had over them during the Roman Era. It will never ever get old.

I really hope the Amazon Documentary isn't sanitised too much. Going to be absolutely comedy gold.

This game gets forgotten sadly, but I have vivid memories of it. We were losing and turned it around magnificently. Seriously though does Eidur's goal get much recognition outside of us? Feels like I never see it on the best PL goal compilations on TV.
  22. Favourite Chelsea Matches

One of my best childhood memories. Another game I can proudly say I was at!!! We were spoilt that season, 4-0 against Spurs and Liverpool in the space of a few weeks.
  23. Media / Press

I suppose you make a solid point there regarding the reality of how long it will take for life to resume to normality.
  24. Media / Press

I personally think they should finish out this season however long it takes. Then reduce the number games for next season if the schedule becomes a problem. For example change the home and away formats in the leagues and European games, to single games. That will save a huge amount of time in the schedule. The Cups can remain untouched since enough time will be saved from the above, but if they must suspend one then the League Cup makes more sense of course. FA Cup should definitely be played and scrap replays obviously.

Thanks for your in-depth reply. And re: your point about Jose, I entirely agree. His work in his initial 2004-2007 spell made us the trophy winning we continued to be from 2007-present day. Jose is our greatest ever manager and he's the only manager departure we've had that I have felt sad about. While we're on the subject of 1999 team deserving to win the PL, Jose deserved to win at least 1 CL with us in his first spell (I think we already talked about that earlier in this thread).
