Chelsea 0 Porto 1 (2 - 1 on aggregate)

But how we played was based on being 2 up from the first leg. European glory nights are always based on overturning first leg deficits.- 204 replies

We will want a 5th then to be completely stress free!
-
But this is our frustration with them. This is what they should be producing on a more regular basis.
-
You should know from these pages that both and particularly Werner were “top class” in Germany.
-
Yep. Football eh. They score none and the baggies put 5 past us.

Our problem is we do not have a Gus Poyet or Frank Lampard busting to get in the box and score goals. Added to that us we don’t have JFH, Drogba or Costa up front. I could go on but just makes me realise some if the top class players we had who in hindsight were all bargains.

Would you join us if you were Haaland? I would love him to but he has made the stepping stone move and now will join one of the Uber clubs.

The biggest worry is who is going to give us anything near our money back on the players we have given footballs finances. Napoli offered us a case of Moretti for Bakayoko and thought they were being generous. We need top 4 otherwise we have problems. I liken us to Utd a few years back when they spent a fortune and hardly moved forward if not regressed.
-
A fair point but I don’t think I am going back on anything. Did they deliberately shaft him. Honestly don’t know. Did the ineptitude of some of their performances contribute to his sacking. Absolutely yes. What has really changed in the form of the likes of Werner? You rate Jorginho. He got pressed yesterday and reverted to his pre TT form. We will find out in the next 2-3 weeks about these players. We need top 4 for a huge number of reasons. TT has done well in that he has created a system for the players to produce performances albeit with a game plan relying on us scoring first. You are correct in that it was one performance but they got challenged yesterday and failed miserably. What was it the Aussies used to say in Ashes series about reopening old wounds. That is what I am worried about.
-
I have no wish to rehabilitate Frank. By the same token posters on here have attempted to rehabilitate players by praising performances of players who have been by and large useless and contributed to his sacking. I as many others were pleased with our uplift in form but as Holymoly said above that performance was worrying and reminded us of performances over the Christmas period.
-
I don’t think we were heading for the bottom but his sacking has been justified by our subsequent results. I have no problem with Tuchel yesterday. I understand what he did and it made sense to me apart from picking Werner.
-
Two good reposts Droy. So Frank has been gone nearly three months and players are still trying to recover from having their confidence destroyed by him? It would suggest to me that these players are actually not all they are cracked up to be and are as much to do with his sacking as his own limitations. If we miss out on top 4 it is on them in my opinion. You are correct about my post game views. They are Frank related as the performances of the players yesterday were the same as those that got him sacked. There has been some over praising of players post his sacking. Jorginho being one example. I just hope for all Chelsea supporters sakes that yesterday was a blip. I don’t trust these players which why I dreaded going into the match and commented as such.
-
So Frank destroyed the confidence of players? Some pretty lame excuses have been made for players. SkyBet offered even money on Werner to have a shot on target today. They knew it was easy money...... for them! Frank has some culpability of where we find ourselves but our £250 million signings have been woeful. They have improved a little since Frank left but nowhere near enough to justify their wage and outlay and nowhere near enough to blame their continued lack of serious contribution on the previous manager.
-
I thought about that game today as well. And his this team is a million mikes from that one. How spoiled we were!
-
Agree but we have spent a fortune and are clearly well short of being anywhere near being a title challenging team. I think that is what worries me the most and why top 4 is vital for us.
-
Droy he has organised us Tuchel, I have said that on these pages. Ge can prove to us now what a good manager he is in how he deals with this setback. This squad lacks goals to be an 85+ point team.
-
Okay but when a certain player was missing sitters it was because a manager was playing him in the wrong position.
-
The results would suggest that however today they had something go against them and we got exposed. Are we still blaming managers for players poor performances?
-
Got to look over a season I suppose. Up until this point would you say they have been good enough?
-
The players are clearly not good enough. Today proved it. I said it earlier and others have as well is that these players cannot cope with adversity. For a number of years now we struggle to turn around results and bad starts.
-
Maybe we remember what happened after the last setback we had after a run of good results. A reality check to remind us all that the players are as much the problem as managers in our current season.
