  1. Non Chelsea: Champions League

And we take the piss out of Kalou's ball control. Another classic.
  2. Gael Kakuta

Quite right, too. BBC: Chelsea want transfer ban freeze
  3. Musical Tastes

Now there's a blast from the past! Not me personally, no, because I was into rock music back then. But I knew loads of people who used to do Caister regularly, not just through my teens but much later on in my late 20s when I was working in the City.
  4. Salomon Kalou

Except that he hasn't had his arse on the bench for the best part of four years, has he? Over 200 hundred appearances in that time. And besides, some players have the humility to know how good they are, so they realise they've no right to banging down doors at the club like Chelsea, where the standards are so high. With his current level of ability, he's a squad player - not even an impact player - he knows it, that's why he's delighted with the deal. And so he should be.
  5. Ashley Cole

Sorry, what? I've no clue what you mean by this at all.

Off to see Porcupine Tree tonight. :-) Big fan, never seen them live. Steven Wilson is one of the most an amazingly prodigious artists I've ever come across.
  7. Gael Kakuta

No he's not. He's made more than enough money in the last year to cover what he's spent on Chelsea since he bought the club. Start a new topic, have a look online for the latest piece from 4-4-2 magazine. It's worth a read, but I don't have time to search it out at the moment.
  8. Gael Kakuta

Wasn't the rationale behind that something to do with a chance the ban might end up being two summers, rather than two winters? I should really read back through the topic, but I'm already a long way behind everyone else. :-(
  9. Quick Jokes

The wife asked me to help her the other day, "Please come over here and help me. I have a really hard jigsaw puzzle and I can’t work out how to get it started. I'm stuck." I asked her what it's supposed to be when it's finished. Looking at me like I'm a complete idiot, "A Tiger!", she shouts. Grumpily, I get my arse of my chair to go and help her; she's already got all the pieces all over the table. I stare at all the pieces on the table, then look at the box, and say, "Darling, no matter what we do, we're not going to assemble these pieces into anything even remotely resembling a tiger." I get that look then, the one that means I've spoiled her fun for the day and will pay for it in spades later. "Let's go and have a nice cup of tea, darling", I sigh, "then you can put all the Frosties back in the box."

Why even bother? That's not even an opinion worthy of the name.

It's very old though, so I don't know how well it's maintained. There are plenty of music discovery engines out there, but most are monetised to death and besides they've all just picked up the ball that Pandora started rolling. Think and Spotify for examples. I spend more time on Wikipedia than I do anywhere else when I find a new band I might like. It's easy to get really silly about this, but for those who do get into the discovery thing, take a look here:

Although I'm a completist when it comes to collecting music, there are still some bands that I've followed for years and don't have everything they've done. Yes (through Rick Wakeman) is one. I've just over half their stuff, but love their music. If you like a particular band, try typing them into this. You might find some interesting stuff. I've got some Opeth stuff here, but it's borderline for me. However, I have stuff by No-Man, Pain of Salvation, Symphony X, Dream Theater, Flower Kings, all of which turn up by searching Opeth on the link above.
  14. Musical Tastes

Well, I'm enjoying this topic, moreso than many of the so-called football topics on here, it has to be said. What's interesting for me though, as a big music fan, even though I generally only lurk here, is there seem to be two distinct groups: those that like something, then try and seek out more music like it; and those who hear something they like, become a fan, then wait until the next thing they like comes along. I've a fairly decent music collection, though not as huge as some people on here, but mostly it's come about because I've heard a band, learned about the people in the band and their influences, then sought out more stuff. And so it goes on, until you have a very unhealthy obsession. I'm a big prog-rock fan and have been since my teens, which is when I started collecting music. But it's such for me that a lot of the stuff I want isn't available here and I have to resort to obscure websites all over the world to get my stuff. So it's easy to talk about the likes of Porcupine Tree, because they're mainstream (ish), but much harder to talk generally about bands like Harmonium or Bacamarte because it's very limited. I guess the point I'm trying to make is: those who are in the former group are missing out in my opinion. What you see on the telly or YouTube or hear on the radio is just the tip of a bigger iceberg than you can possibly contemplate. Like the football news, you only see what they want you to see, so although Craig might cream his pants when Oasis come <cough> on the telly, there's a very good chance that because music is so subjective there's a band out there that he hasn't heard of who are better than Oasis in his eyes, but he'll never find them. That we all think Oasis are **** and just another pop band is besides the point. Actually, it's not. Oasis are and were **** and I'm a musical snob. The Beatles did it better and I can't stand them either. I've heard better lyrics than that Manc berk managed to write down at my local pub when the beardie brown-beer-swilling fat smock-wearing folkies are in. And I actually like modern folk music, before you go down that route. On reflection, I do sometimes wish I hadn't bought my first vinyl single some 42 years ago with my pittance of pocket money. It's led to a far greater addiction for me than football ever could be. Wild Rover indeed.

You may as well just ask straight out for the Moon on a stick.

Other places reported that the club had received the documents from Fifa on Friday, which was I believe the deadline, so it's a fairly logical and safe assumption based on what we've been told about Kenyon and one of the reasons he's staying on, plus Buck's a lawyer. Sometimes even tribal can put two and two together and get the right answer. :-) It's not, however, newsworthy. I rather doubt the club will be commenting on this one for the foreseeable future, but it won't stop the papers making stuff up. Unfortunately, I can't remember how long the club have to respond for appeal. Two weeks? I'm guessing. What tribal didn't note, however, is that Buck is actually a specialist in Mergers and Acquisitions, so probably not the ideal bloke to be dealing with this one.
  17. Gael Kakuta

Like I said, I sometimes wonder if people read, etc. etc.
  18. Gael Kakuta

It doesn't say anything that isn't already in the piece by the Irish Examiner, and neither does the Sky piece posted earlier. I sometimes wonder if people read stuff before they copy and paste it here.
  19. Gael Kakuta

Because Blatter probably almost came in his pants when he saw the chance to shaft a top English team and dropped the ball. It's almost worth taking the time to write the moist litigious piece I possibly can, just to see if we can get some attention. :)
  20. Didier Drogba

What post? There's a time limit in how long you have until you can keep editing your posts. We did that because there are a couple of people on the site who were in the habit of coming back and editing their posts after someone how put them right on a few things. Edit: Ah, I see now. Don't worry about it. If you want it deleted, let me know. The Drogba haters won't be in here anyway, except those who've forgotten what they said first tome round. ;)

It was only a matter of time before the truth started coming out. Some of us saw this whole affair for what it was. I don't believe we've ever had a case to answer. Too late for Lens to withdraw their complaint, but when this gets completely thrown out I wonder where it will leave Fifa. I wouldn't be at all surprised if Fifa are already in negotiations with the club to some deal that will save them face in all this. Perhaps they should concentrate on Africa where there are clear and documented problems.
  23. Musical Tastes

Indeed, a return to their roots and a return to form.
  24. Non Chelsea: Premier League

I do, I want United to thrash them, not that I can see it. That'll take the wind out of their sails, and United haven't got the team to sustain a meaningful challenge on all fronts for the whole season. Fergie was even bigging up Scoles in the press today, and I thought our cupboard was pretty bare at the moment. I bet Fergie's already halfway through his shopping list for January and hoping that City don't come along with panic buys because Sparky'll have been found out by then and make a massive bollocks of the whole transfer window all over again.
  25. Non Chelsea: Premier League

Three match ban for Adebayor, though I think he's got until 6PM to lodge an appeal on that one. Other charge will be sorted later.
