  1. Chelsea Finances Thread

quote:Originally posted by RikWhat effect has the Wigans and Middlesbroughs and Portsmouths of this league had on anything? They’re not being excessive, they’re being realistic with their spending. This is totally different to Chelsea and Abramovich. id="quote"> id="quote">Wigan is not a good example at all, is it? That would be the same Wigan that, by common concensus, bought their way out of the Championship. A club run by the most hypocritical chairman in football. The very same chairman who criticises clubs for buying foreign players whilst simultaneously courting foreign players. I've stayed out of this topic because I suspected from the start it was just a troll from an oppo fan. My fears have been confirmed.

    > the brilliant football that the unbeaten team played around 2004 This is rapidly becoming an urban myth, isn't it? Yes, Arsenal going the whole season undefeated was a great achievement, but in doing so they drew twelve - yes, twelve - games. They won the league with 90 points. Boring, boring Chelsea won the league last season by winning three more games than 'The Invincibles' and after chucking away the last two games of the season. Context is everything. > You had an agreement with the player and his agents. > Surely that’s tapping up? Of all people,an Arsenal fan should know the concept of tapping up does not exist outside the UK.
  3. Salomon Kalou

And only then decided (too late) that playing for the Ivory Coast alongside his brother might be a better option.

    > Chelsea will hope they are given the green-light to complete his signing How the hell are a club like Chelsea going to justify this signing tom an appeal, then? I can see it now. > This isn't making any sense at all. Not one bit. BTW: Is his goal-scoring record a bit like Kezman's? From the same league? Genuine questions, I've only followed this one from a distance.
  5. Didier Drogba

quote:Originally posted by BluEbOy90Have you been living in a cave for the past month mate? id="quote"> id="quote">Show me one single quote where Drogba specifically tells us he wants to leave Chelsea football club. You might choose to get your news and quotes from a single source, but many people here have realised that is an approach fraught with more problems than solutions. If you want to be one-eyed about it that's your choice, but don't pull me up on it unless you can present facts.

    > And he turns around now and says that he wants to quit chelsea? This is becoming very hard work now. Exactly where and when did he say 'I want to leave Chelsea'?
  8. Didier Drogba

    > quit falling over whenever he gets the ball Did you stop watching Chelsea a few months ago or something?
  9. Didier Drogba

quote:Originally posted by BanbridgeTrueBlueSorry for bringing it up again Grahame, but my view is, that us as supporters, very dedicated supporters, should be able to express their views on Chelsea's players freely. id="quote"> id="quote">It's really not a problem. The thing I still don't understand is, if people have had a moan about any player why do they have to repeat themselves?Again, not a dig at anyone in particular - not yet at least - but of someone has made a point about a player then that's it, isn't it? You're right though, I've just asked a rhetorical question: the people who bitch about stuff do it often, and they do it until they think someone is actually listening or cares.
  10. Didier Drogba

quote:Originally posted by KhobarHow come this is in the 'Intelligent' forum when so many are giving credence to alleged quotes (subsequently denied)and using them as a stick to beat up the player who didn't say them? id="quote"> id="quote">This is a rhetorical question, isn't it? You know exactly why, sadly. :(
  11. Didier Drogba

But surely, if Shevchenko scores less than 20 goals next season - assuming he comes of course - he'll get an absolute slating here won't he? Once upon a time people here said we needed a 30 goals a season striker, then it was 20 - which I questioned just the other day - now people are suggesting that Shevchenko could get away with less that 20? This is a joke, right?
  12. Didier Drogba

Thanks again for taking the time, Rachel. Looks like I could have been the one being a little hasty. We'll see. IHateLiverpool: it wasn't a pop at you directly, I just find it hard to swallow that there are so many topics where people are critical of players compared to the number of topics praising our players. We are, after all, supposed to be supporters. JLH: you make a good point about preparation for the World Cup, but I have a feeling this interview is a couple of days old now. Besides, I think it's pretty hard for any player with a profile as high as Didier's to actively avoid the press at the moment.
  13. Didier Drogba

quote:Originally posted by BluEbOy90I used the search button and it came up with no results..For Drogba..So I can't be blamed. id="quote"> id="quote">Really?Try this: go to the search page and type Drogba in the 'search for' text box, then select subject only in 'Search In' and 30 days in the 'By Date' drop-down. No results at all? I count eight topics. Oh, and if you search using the defaults I make it 21 pages of results, so I must be missing something somewhere.
  14. Didier Drogba

I note with some interest that some of the comments here are less about what was supposedly said in that piece, and more to do with taking the opportunity to have [another] pop at the player. Tell you what, if you're a Drogba hater why not go and start another topic somewhere else and get it all out of your system once and for all? Same old, same old. Slag off the press when it suits, or use inaccurate translations and dodgy editing when it suits...
  15. Didier Drogba

quote:Originally posted by Rachel HarrisNo it says that he refutes speaking with them. It's just a brief summary of the full interview which is only available in the paper version id="quote"> id="quote">Ah, right. Thanks, Rachel. :)
  16. Didier Drogba

Thanks, Frad, but I don't think that's the right one. That interview claims Didiers comments were attributed to The Sun, which he's subsequently denied. All in all, I think this is, once again, creative editing by the Murdoch Brigage over at Sky Sports. Still, let's not let that get in the way of another opportunity to slag Drogba off and fall, once again, for s**te journalism, eh?
  17. Didier Drogba

"I am not happy. In two seasons, I could never really express my true potential." Here we go with the dodgy editing again. <sigh> How about: "I never talked to The Sun and I never said anything like that to any journalist," Drogba told L'Equipe. "Those words are a complete fabrication. I am not happy." "In two seasons, I could never really express my true potential. <insert missing sentence here>" Don't suppose anyone has the original interview, do they?
  18. Didier Drogba

If, and this is a very big if, there is a team out there willing to pay that sort of money for almost any one of our players we'd be pretty stupid to turn it down. That's probably why this is nonsense.
  19. Frank Arnesen

Hmmmmmm. "The competition in England and especially London is unbelievable. Everybody is looking at the same players," So what? If you're any good at your job you'll relish the challenge. That's why I thought Arnesen was here, because he is so good at what he does. Just so long as we don't end up with a squad as large as Tottenham's, though.
  20. Didier Drogba

God, it was less than two weeks ago. hey-ho.
  21. Didier Drogba

Didn't we do this one a couple of weeks ago? I think we did.
  22. New Kits

quote:Originally posted by sgriffithsxThat new kit is lame. Still it's better than Barca's urine yellow kit. id="quote"> id="quote">If your urine is that colour, I suggest you seek medical advice.

Hurrah! The midnight blue strip is back, one of my favourites! :) Oh wait, this is a load of old tosh isn't it?
  24. Didier Drogba

    > Makelele was once again controlling the midfield Erm, how many games have you watched this season?
  25. Didier Drogba

"In football terms we have not missed Alexei Smertin or Mateja Kezman, or Scott Parker. But Scott was a very special character. We had players who did not give a big contribution on the pitch - because they did not play much - but they were fantastic in terms of the way they behaved professionally every day." The much improved of late Daily Mirror. Actually a pleasure to read today, very good football coverage all round.
