  1. Chelsea 1 Huddersfield Town 1

You just know he’ll be back celebrating in the away dugout!
  2. Chelsea 1 Huddersfield Town 1

Arrogant selection. We had to blitz them. Huddersfield managed the game well, fair play to them.
  3. Media / Press

Imagine if we were third and Liverpool were fifth, having just beaten us. Imagine if Liverpool could go into the final game of the season level on points with us and we were struggling for form in the league. What do you think the press would say and don’t you think they’d be screaming it from the rooftops?

I'm probably going to live to regret this, but when it comes to FFP and transfers, it's all about amortisation. Of course, that makes the transfer fees important, but you've got to look at all of our recent transfers, calculate their wages for the year and divide their transfer fee by the number of years on their contract- that's how the gist of how it's calculated. The transfer fees aren't just written off year in year out. That is then monitored, as you point out, over a period set by UEFA. I'm not certain on the Adidas thing, but I reckon that was accounted as an exceptional cost and won't be counted against FFP- I could be wrong. Regardless, I reckon you can expect summer spending to be mostly funded by sales, and I think the net spend will be lower than this season (even if it should be more!).

I think it's because of the wealth of options they have. They have Ronaldo, Bale, Rodriguez, Asensio, Vazquez for those positions and are apparently looking at either Salah or Hazard. Asensio should be starting every game.

If I'm honest, I think there's a lot of players we have out on loan that will make an enormous difference if we give them a chance. They'll feel like new signings. Ship out the deadwood. Add two/three more and we're sorted. I've done a number of these fantasy squad plans, but my thinking at the moment is (and figures are based on some of the figures about in the press- not sure they're all realistic).. Out: Drinkwater (£30m), David Luiz (£20m), Pedro (£15m), Batsuayhi (£50m) High profile loanees: Bakayoko, Ampadu, Kenedy In: Asensio (£70m), Martial (£45m), Alderweield (£25m) Net Spend: £25m Squad: GK: Courtois, Caballero, Eduardo RB: Moses, Zappacosta CB: Azpilicueta, Alderweield, Rudiger, Christensen, Zouma, Cahill LB: Alonso, Emerson CM: Kante, Fabregas, Loftus-Cheek, Van Ginkel, Barkley AM: Hazard, Asensio, Martial, Willian ST: Morata, Giroud, Abraham I think there's an argument to look at the wing-back positions a little more, but not sure there's anybody out there that will be available, that will both fit into our budget and are an improvement on what we have.

Ideally Ancelotti or Enrique, I’m not opposed to Allegri either. If we want to go down the raw potential route, I’d prefer Fonseca, Marco Silva or Nagelsmann. I’m just put off by Sarri’s record before Napoli- a journeyman at Serie B and bottom half Serie A teams. Perhaps Bruce is harsh given what he’s achieved with Napoli. Perhaps Brendan Rodgers is a fairer comparison.
  8. Transfer Talk Topic

Really don’t want Sarri. Zero honours. Before Napoli he was the Steve Bruce of Italy.
  9. Transfer Talk Topic

Would prefer Asensio to Zaha but doubtful Asensio will be available.

Firmino release clause £83 Million. Certainly extremely steep but in this climate, perhaps not a bad deal for a striker of his standard.
  11. Transfer Talk Topic

I don't know, I think it's a huge deal. I think it's unlikely we'll unearth any players with the potential to reach the level that Salah and De Bruyne have. Instead we have older players that have delivered in the short term. Just imagine what we'd have achieved this season and in seasons to come with a squad formed of Azpi, Kante, Hazard, Salah and De Bruyne. We'd walk it. I don't see losing those two as a minor thing.
  12. Transfer Talk Topic

Salah and De Bruyne would not have threatened the position of any of the players you've mentioned there, and arguably only Matic, whose purchase was in part funded by De Bruyne (having of course been discarded himself in 2010 in the first David Luiz deal), would not have been part of the squad in that second half of 2013/14. Both of those players were sold too early - it was a poor judgement, that is inarguable and I think there is a very, very compelling argument that keeping those two wouldn't have effected our two most recent title winning seasons, indeed they'd have only strengthened us last season. So, that begs the question, where do we go now?
  13. Transfer Talk Topic

Absolutely, yes. We were far too hasty in shipping out Salah and De Bruyne knowing the potential they had. Lukaku I thought I would add to this list but honestly, I don’t think Morata is far off him and Diego Costa was better. There is the argument that ‘oh they’d have never got a first team place back after a loan’, but who is to say that? Thibaut has done it, Moses has done it, Christensen has done it. We basically mortgaged our future for Willian and Oscar.
  14. Taking The Pee Out Of Liverpool (For Khobar)

As excellent as Liverpool have been, Roma have somehow devised a strategy that is absolutely perfect for Liverpool. Likewise Klopp has planned this very well also. Difficult to watch if, like me, your least favourite team in the world is the bin dippers!
  15. Media / Press

Bore off, lads. City just won 5-0 with 83% possession and are, unfortunately, well on course to break our points record. They deserve to be applauded the way they are. They’re not media favourites like Liverpool, United or Spurs are, they’re being applauded for an excellent season. Football, as we know, is cyclical so there is a good chance they get figured out next season, but for now we should applaud what they’ve achieved.
  16. Transfer Talk Topic

Martial, Rashford, Pogba - if Mourinho is shipping them out, he's selling his three best players. Pogba has struggled as he's been played out of position almost consistently. Jose will then be left with a few players who will deliver a very short term return- exactly what he did in his last spell here, except it won't deliver trophies for them.
  17. Transfer Talk Topic

Not necessarily- I think we can spend at the existing level and compete so long as the structure is sound, but it certainly isn't going to work if you're balancing the books and have non-footballing people calling the shots at the same time. That's a recipe for a future as a mid-table club.
  18. Transfer Talk Topic

If City had signed Walker, Laporte, Danilio, Mendy and Bernardo Silva whilst raising £240m by selling Aguero, De Bruyne, David Silva and Kompany, they wouldn't be on course to break the points record.. Particularly if the Sheikh's PR lady was in charge of player recruitment. City's blueprint is bang on, however, the element of having a huge net spend is a big factor in their success. We, of all clubs, should understand that.
  19. Transfer Talk Topic

Do we know how much choice he (and former managers) had in keeping those players? The critical thing is comparing our net spend over the past five seasons with United/City whilst also considering the folk apparently calling the shots have no football experience whatsoever.
  20. Transfer Talk Topic

Sessegnon a great shout. Would like us to consider Neves also.
  21. Transfer Talk Topic

Do we think Conte would be prepared to stay with the necessary change in structure and enough funds available for him make his stamp on the squad or do we think he is too far gone?
  22. Transfer Talk Topic

So... shake up in the summer. I'll play fantasy football and figure out a team. We all know there's a lot of dead weight that needs replacing, whilst at the same time we need to add to the side, so it's going to be costly. I've worked out the following based on us sticking with 3-4-3/3-5-2, but I'm not sure this will happen and am not especially keen, would rather go 4-3-3. Definite outs (either on loan or permanent): David Luiz, Bakayoko, Drinkwater, Pedro Out for the right offer/depending on replacements available: Moses, Batsuayhi, Fabregas, Kenedy GK: Courtois, Caballero, Eduardo RWB: Moses, Zappacosta CB: Azpilicueta, Cahill, ** New CB **, Christensen, Zouma, Rudiger LWB: Alonso, Palmeiri, Kenedy CM: Kante, **NEW CM**, Fabregas, **NEW CM**, Loftus-Cheek, Barkley AM: Hazard, **New AM**, Willian, **New AM**, ST: Morata, Giroud, Batsuayhi My ideal choices for the ins... CB: Marquinhos CM: Fabinho, Richarlison AM: Asensio, Bailey Unrealistic, I know, but would strengthen the team.
  23. Transfer Talk Topic

Morata apparently interesting Juventus. Though, I don't want him to go, I wouldn't lose sleep if we got a good offer and sold him.
  24. Chelsea 1 West Ham 1

We need someone like Hiddink upstairs as director of football with a committee of former players. Ideally Lampard, Drogba, Terry- Hiddink and those three completely understand Chelsea Football Club. Hiddink, like the late Cruyff at Barcelona, is a believer in the ‘total football’ philopsophy, let’s apply that to our coaching techniques throughout the club and integrate our squads better. Head hunt scouts from Europe that complement that philosophy- Ajax, Barcelona stand out. Luis Enqrique would be a coach/manager that complements that style. Form a committee of the ‘former players’ board, scouts, Enrique, Hiddink and Abramovich and decide a five year strategy to build a culture and deliver long term success as we move to the new stadium.

I just hope we’re planning properly. I don’t think we are, and our opponents this afternoon are the marker of the sort of level we’ll be competing at for the foreseeable.
