Check your calculator. €15m would be £25m less than we're getting for Mata. Edit: Sorry, thought you were referring to Salah.

Steady now. I'm gutted, but no more gutted than I've been to see him sitting on the bench all season. Unlike some others here I don't see Jose as the second coming, he's not a god, he's just a damn fine manager and a legend at this club. I think bringing in Schurrle and Willian spelled the end for Mata long ago. To sell Mata to Man Utd? Horrible thought. But to sell Mata to Moyes' Man Utd? Somehow not so bad. If Mo Salah comes it will be to replace KDB, not Mata. We'll have our eyes on someone else no doubt, but possibly not someone in the same position.

All gone a bit Mary Whitehouse in here hasn't it folks?
  4. Andre Schurrle

If watching the Swedish NT is a chore you should try being Scottish, and most of our girls are shocking! ;) Yeah, it's a good thing in a way that he was cutting in and scoring, bodes well when our strikers aren't doing the job.
  5. Andre Schurrle

Fair enough, as a non-Swede I just watched the highlights and he was always central on the clips they showed. As for the Man Utd game, the less said about our attacking intent in that game the better. I'd forgotten he was upfront there as well! Clearly he can deliver the goods though, given the right service.
  6. Andre Schurrle

No.9 for Germany tonight, maybe we should give him his chance there for us...

Has an air of a Lassana Diarra about him, though presumably he'll be a slightly better player. Would love us to sign him but can't see it happening or lasting long if it does.
  8. Official: Juan Mata Leaves For Man United

This comes back to the 'cutting off the nose to spite the face' I was referring to. I totally understand that Jose wants to change the system, and I don't doubt he has Roman's backing to do so (at least, for now), but you don't sacrifice the things that made the team win matches until the last possible moment. Basically, we all know Mata won a lot of games for us last year, so why is he the first casualty of the new system? Surely you build up the new system with the other players and then, if Juan is struggling to adapt, you drop him. Jose's just jumped in at the deep end and dropped our best player straight away. Again, if we weren't playing such dull, lifeless, directionless football and losing games nobody would be complaining. There's a school of thought that Jose is reveling in all the Mata talk to distract from recent results, and I'm starting to wonder if that might be true.
  9. Official: Juan Mata Leaves For Man United

Changing the system overnight as in not easing it in gradually. Turning up on day 1 and demanding that the most prolific player in a club changes their playing style immediately just sounds like causing disruption for the sake of it. Juan is a great guy, and will try his hardest to adapt, but he's been playing the way he plays for most of his career, and it's been working brilliantly since he joined our club. Suddenly he has to start playing more defensively or he's out of the team. As for comparing him to C.Ron, well that's an extreme example, but I see no reason to suggest Mata wasn't of similar importance to our club in terms of attacking threat.
  10. Official: Juan Mata Leaves For Man United

As much as I'd hate to see him move to another club and become world top-3 standard, it wouldn't surprise me. How much tracking back did Cristiano do at Real anyway? If we were winning games with ease without him I doubt there'd be the same disquiet among the fans, but the fact we're losing; playing dull, directionless football and our leading assists man is sat twiddling his thumbs is bound to raise questions. I get Jose's reasoning, or at least I can understand it, but frankly he should have been able to shore up our defensive ineptitude without compromising our attacking intent. If he wants us to play possession football then I agree, it will take time...so why is he trying to change it overnight?

It's only a Mata of time.. (Sorry!)
  12. Thibaut Courtois Departs

Really excited about this guy, quite a nice feeling knowing we own one of the best young players in the world and he's not even joined up with our first squad yet. He's getting all the experience he'll need, especially with Atletico in the Champions League etc. Petr is an absolute legend at the club, but a little competition never hurt anyone, and we have two top goalkeepers on our hands for the future.
  13. OFFICIAL - David Luiz Joins PSG.

Great to hear the words from David, hopefully this means he'll be a Chelsea player for a good while to come. I love the guy anyway, ever since seeing him dancing about like a loon on the CL bus parade. Looking at future captains his name has to be in the mix.

Great read, that just made me feel a whole lot better about loaning Lukaku out this season.
