Alisson Azpilicueta - Rugani - Christensen - Alonso Kante - Jorginho - Golovin Bailey - Higuain - Hazard

Hazard would go for £100m tops. Only 2 years left on contract

Exactly. I’m become a bit more philosophical in recent years and, really, I will always enjoy following us no matter how good the side is. It’s a joy to watch the likes of Hazard, but ultimately no player is bigger than the club and if he wants to go then we should let him. I only want players who want to play for us. I mean, If we go and sign Dybala and Insigne and play them off Higuain is anyone going to be complaining?

Losing Hazard would be like losing Zola or Robben. Hard to imagine life without them but then you always find someone just as good, or ‘different’ good. at the moment, if Hazard isn’t firing we look quite an ordinary team. Perhaps it will free us up to be a bit more versatile?

Any Smashing Pumpkins fans in here? Absolutely loved Zeitgeist although it was critically panned (10 years old now!) but just got Spotify and discovered it's not on there :(

Surely it'd be alright for Qarabag at the bridge?

Plot thickens... Costa included in our squad?

There are 4 positions (italicized) that anyone could reasonably expect us to have better quality in there: Clarke Salter - We have plenty of centrebacks so that's fine. Kenedy - is awful so yes need an upgrade there but we have cover with Moses or Zappacosta. Musonda - could have a break out season, clearly very talented. Batshuayi - won't lead the line and we should have improved on him but he does score goals. Recall Tammy in Jan? Other than that, it's not terrible. Courtois Caballero Azpilicueta - Luiz - Cahill Rudiger - Christensen - Clarke Salter Moses - Kante - Bakayoko - Alonso Zappacosta - Drinkwater - Fabregas - Kenedy Pedro - Hazard Willian - Musonda Morata Batshuayi

It frustrates me when I try to convince other fans we have a small squad - they refuse to believe it. They just say: "well you've got 900 players on loan, recall them." But what they don't realise is that our academy is a sister company under the same umbrella and has nothing to do with the first team. On the whole I agree that, barring any injuries, our squad should do a decent job on all fronts this year. But we probably won't win anything if we try to win it all.

Thanks for those stats - For me Zappacosta looks to be a Conte signing, perhaps all is better behind the scenes than we thought?

If we actually want Llorente, we'll sign him. He would surely want to reunite with Conte more than play for Poch.

Honestly chaps/chappettes, let's revel in the disaster tomorrow IF we don't sign anyone. But for now I want spurious rumours and mindless speculation. E.g.: My sister's ex-husband's dog groomer who lives in Cobham says she's just had a last-minute booking from a mysterious bloke called A. Sanchez who wants to pay in cash.

I think it's strange, though understandable in a way, that we blame our entire transfer failing on one person when in reality we don't know who does what. We will sign some players today and if not then we'll have to deal with the consequences.

Former Man Utd academy player, Premier league winner, 27 year old England International, ideal for Conte's football where individual decisions are designed to be minimised in favour of the system - doesn't give the ball away, proven that he works well with Kante. Happy to be part of the squad rather than a nailed on starter but good enough to push first XI and can be thrown in comfortably at any level.
  15. Squad Status: 2019/2020 Season

Jose's 04/05 squad was 22 plus GKs - Fergie always used to have a huge squad too. I personally think we need first XI plus senior bench, plus reserve bench (inc promising youngsters).
  16. Squad Status: 2019/2020 Season

With loanees we should just manage it.
  17. Squad Status: 2019/2020 Season

Could even swap Musonda for Mahrez if the papers are to be believed. Certainly a lot more competitive if we can add those 4, even if none of them are better than what we have already.

For the past couple of seasons I've felt he would be a good option as an orthodox right midfielder in a 4-4-2. You could transfer that to an attacking wingback. I think his strengths are stretching the game with acceleration and width - he's not bad at crossing and can keep tempo with the ball well. In my view he's another Moses although maybe less physical and not as good at defending. £35m isn't a huge amount of money for a 24 year old England international from a direct rival and those wages are obscene but not out of the realms of possibility really. Not sure we could do better when buying 'English' but obvs there are better options from other nations.

I don't get the Willian hate - he's better than Sterling, Sane, Mikitaryan etc. We'd struggle to find what he offers.

Tell you what - Marchisio, Bellotti and Ox would be one hell of an end to the window.
  21. Transfer Talk Topic

Hasn't fulfilled any potential he had - maybe as a squad player he'd be ok but he couldn't even break into the southampton side ahead of Romeu etc. I doubt we'd be interested.
  22. Transfer Talk Topic

I reckon we've briefed 15m into the papers to frame the negotiations low. He should cost double that in today's market.

I'm not sure we need a dedicated RWB right now if Moses is fit (Azpi, Willian, Rudiger can all deputise if we have a bigger squad) - but someone who can play there at a high level and do a good job going forward and back is useful. We desperately need more players of quality though and for £36m he's a no brainer.
