Of course it's possible we'll challenge. I'm not saying it's likely we'll win either, but the chance isn't 0 like you seem to claim.

Nice to see quite a few balanced posts on this subject. So, finally back to football again. Who do we play against this weekend?
  3. Transfer Talk Topic

You said ACL tear, not more games. I can't see our squad being sufficient for the next 10 months either. If one wants to be positive Bats has had one more year to develop and is maybe a better player now.
  4. Transfer Talk Topic

Remind me who we had as a backup to Costa.
  5. Transfer Talk Topic

Bats? Quite a few clubs playing one up front have one good/decent backup striker.
  6. Transfer Talk Topic

And thanks Ross for leaving some time for us to find a replacement.
  7. Transfer Talk Topic

Good. Fits the profile of the recent signings. Good age, good engine.
  8. Transfer Talk Topic

Maybe Rudiger, Morata and Bakayoko were done months ago.
  9. Transfer Talk Topic

Who will cover for Alonso? Zappacosta looks pretty right footed. And Kenedy... Assuming we get Zappacosta and Drinkwater will be signed LWB is the gaping hole what I can see.

Juve asked about Bellerin today. Would hope the Sandro deal was still on but Bellerin plays on the right doesn't he?
  11. Transfer Talk Topic

I try load a new page but I seem to be stuck on the same all the time. What's wrong? It's the page where we allegedly miss out on a player and James is writing about how bad our board is.
  12. Transfer Talk Topic

I would say "potential disaster". If we are lucky with injuries and so on it's not impossible to manage the season up to January with a small squad.
  13. Transfer Talk Topic

    Is he any good?

What's this with players suddenly preferring Pool to us? First VVD and now Ox? Is it the lifestyle in Liverpool? The lure of trophies?
  15. Transfer Talk Topic

Assuming Ox leaves I can't understand why Wenger started Ox in the games so far. Surely he must have known about it or was he hoping to change his mind? Or that he would get injured? We have made some good signings so far but the ones we are linked with now are slightly underwhelming. I hope they can surprise positively if we do sign them.

When did we last have three CFs? I'm not so sure we will pay what's needed for one.
  19. Transfer Talk Topic

Then I doubt he would choose us.
  20. Transfer Talk Topic

Ox covers both RWB and RW, only CM and LWB to go! ;-)
  21. Transfer Talk Topic

And Costa to Atletico and then loaned to Everton for 6 months.
  22. Transfer Talk Topic

Kind of agree but one more proper challenger for the first eleven among these would be fun. Is that too much to ask?

Clubs with higher wages get first dibs on new players. It's easy to look "efficient" if you can pick and choose whichever player you want. We want the same elite players but have to go about it slightly differently. Utd fans in general seem quite upset with the spending of City. The difference in spending is marginal though between them two but Utd earned the money from their fans and City got theirs from their owner. Which they think makes all the difference. Utd are probably one of the most underachieving clubs post Fergie in the world, but that doesn't stop them from thinking they are entitled to spend more than anyone else forever.
  24. Transfer Talk Topic

Comparing with Utd is an it unfair. Financially we are more at the level of le Arse.
  25. Transfer Talk Topic

Interesting topic about squad depth and player quality. Let's pretend we have say 100m to spend on the two central midfielders, and let's also assume higher price correlates with higher quality. Would you spend the money equal on four players (25m each) or go for two star players and then some cheaper squad players? Or something in between? I would probably go something like 35-35-20-10 in this theoretical thought experiment. Point is you can't go for 50-50-50-50, and be happy with less does not equal lower ambitions. It's an optimisation excercise. On another note I was thinking of which realistic or semi realistic signings that would really excite me, and I can more or less only come up with Belotti: Partly because he seems a great little player but also because it would hint at two up front and quite a different style. Who wouldn't want to see him and Morata up front together?
