  2. Official Club Announcement Chelsea Football Club is delighted to announce Michy Batshuayi has today completed his transfer from Marseille. The 22-year-old signed a five-year contract. A powerful, fast striker, the highly coveted Batshuayi moves to Stamford Bridge having developed a reputation as a fine finisher following spells in France and Belgium. Skilful and with the ability to beat opposing defenders with his quick feet, he is a threat in the air and also comfortable holding the ball up and linking the play. He was part of the Belgium squad at Euro 2016 and netted with his first touch on his tournament debut last Sunday, converting a cross from his new Chelsea team-mate Eden Hazard in a 4-0 win over Hungary. Batshuayi said: ‘I am delighted to sign for one of the biggest clubs in Europe and embark on the next chapter in my career. I hope I can help Chelsea win many trophies during my time at Stamford Bridge. ‘Eden Hazard and Thibaut Courtois have told me many good things about the club, and with Antonio Conte coming in it's an exciting time to become a Chelsea player. ‘This is a fantastic opportunity for myself and my family, I am looking forward to playing in the Premier League next season.’

I've been away from the site for a while but its nice to see sensible posts like this rather than the CFCnet-typical freak out. I've never seen Belotti play. Watched Morata a lot via Juve, Real and a bit of Spain. Nothing flashy really but a very solid player who scores goals. A safe choice I think.

The media almost tricked me into really wanting Lukaku. I love the guy but I've never been convinced he's a good fit for us. Never mind big games. He goes missing in small ones too. Hot and cold is not something I personally enjoy watching. Best thing we could do now is go all out for whoever plan B, C or D was AND get Chicharito. I couldn't stand the guy when he was at United but he's a seriously good bench choice for goals and we'll be needing those.
  6. Squad Status: 2021/22 Season

Thorgan Hazard has six goals in seven appearances I see. I need to watch more Bundesliga, so I can't comment on his overall play, but does anyone know how he is defensively? Oscar barely even flatters to deceive any more. We wore him into the ground and we're left with OscarLite. Wonder whether Thorgan could come back and take his place - his form is akin to KDBs when he started to light up the league over there.

Chelsea fans love Luiz. Every opposition's fans also love Luiz. No thank you.

Rodriguez worries me. He's been devastating going forward for years but nobody bigger than Wolfsberg have come in for him. He'd be an offensive upgrade on Baba but I'm not so sure defensively.
  9. Willian

Chelsea Football Club is delighted to announce the signing of Willian. The 25-year-old Brazilian was today (Wednesday) granted a work permit and has signed a five-year contract, having moved to England from Russian club Anzhi Makhachkala. He will wear the number 22 shirt. On completing his move, Willian said: 'I'm very happy to be here, it's been a dream of mine to come and play here. 'Chelsea are one of the best clubs in the world, and now I'm going to play for one of the best managers in the world, so I'm very happy and looking forward to it.' http://www.chelseafc.com/news-article/article/3440090/title/willian-transfer-completed
  10. N'Golo Kante

Huge signing. Delighted with this one.
  11. Have a good feeling about this one. Hadn't heard of him before he came off the bench for Belgium and scored the other day, but he looks like he has bags of potential. Hopefully I'll be quoting this after he's scored his 25th league goal for us at some point in the future and not as we sell him for a cut price.

Payet looks to me like someone that's going to have to try really hard to be good at football, but everything seems to come so naturally to him. Didn't watch a lot of West Ham this season, so didn't really know what the fuss was about. He looks class.

My eyes, my eyes!!! Don't let the truth get in the way of good conjecture ;) More seriously, I knew the Rudiger part but not the background on Manolas. Thanks for the info.

Don't know if there's any truth in the Rudiger rumors, but he certainly looks a player. Has come a long way in terms of confidence on the ball since the last time I saw him play as a 20 year old. Looks intelligent and capable of holding on to the ball if needed.

I don't understand the antipathy towards Vardy (in general, not on here). His link to Arsenal has been met with derision if Twitter replies are anything to do by. Its it a class thing? Has he been shagging people's wives? Was he a Chelsea youth product or something? He's class and he worked to get to where he is - I begrudge him nothing and as much as I dislike Arsenal, I'd be delighted to see him playing for a club just below the top tier in England.
  16. And its the nature of a divisive character joining a rival club - its only going to add to the apologetics or make those criticising feel more entitled to. And fair enough. I'm between the two camps. Always a legend though, and he'll always get a clap from the stands from me.

So proud of RLC yesterday. Yes, got given an ear bashing for not chasing back enough, but I doubt that's every going to completely disappear from his game. Baker was outstanding too. My favourite player in the world - that we don't already have - is Pogba. The more I see RLC, the less I actually want us to sign him, provided one of our domestic rivals doesn't get him instead. More generally, I'm not expecting marquee signings this summer from Conte, and the more I think about it, the more disappointed I'd be if after his years at Italy manager, he didn't pluck one or two upcoming Italian stars from relative obscurity and add them to the first team squad. Surely there's a 21/22 year old or two hiding in a Atalanta or a Sassuolo that hasn't yet made the biggest headlines - but that's about to.
  18. No matter what you think of Jose's antics last season, it rankles to see him lined up for Manure. Not loving it at all. I'm sure he'll do well, its just a matter of how well. If he learned from his downfall with us then he'll be a better manager than he even was before. I reckon the squad he's given, the backing he receives and the general fit with the club will very quickly decide the rest.
  19. Kurt Zouma

    *Groan*. Another 'ghost'. Knees suck.
  20. Kurt Zouma

Yep. D. Rose. Good to hear about Azpi. Hopefully its just a six month blip then.
  21. Kurt Zouma

Oh goddammit. I hate those three letters. My favourite basketball player had several ACL/MCL injuries and he went from being the best player in the league at 23 to a ghost very quickly. To the point that when he now dunks the whole arena collectively gasps and holds their breath at the same time. Does anyone with medical knowledge (the type you can't just Google for) know how much ACL injuries affect footballers and the prospect of reaching their potential?
  22. That quote today doing the rounds about him sending Jose a text has helped me with my perception of him. It could be nonsense, but in the absence of anything credible to counter the quote, I'm inclined to choose to take it at face value. He's got a weak mentality - that's very clear to me - but perhaps he wasn't maliciously involved in the whole revolt. Want to like the kid, but he makes it hard sometimes.
  23. Chelsea Finances Thread

I think even the casual punter knows by now that amortisation comes into it, but this does partially explain the hesitance to spend more this summer. Also explains the progress being made to increase capacity. I've said it before and I'm happy to say it again... supporting this club is a long-term thing. A little pain now (ok, quite a lot really) is fine as long as we're where we need to be in 10-15-20 years. Not too bothered if we don't strengthen every year or win every year as long as the overall trend is upward. Lots of non-footballing things come into that equation.
  24. Yep. Was gutted to see him go. Still am. Every time I mention him, people shoot him down for leaving/not sticking it out. Getting less and less vocal though I've noticed. I've been a big fan since I found out he was a big fan of the club. Ditto with KDB, albeit, I was happy enough with the transfer dealings at the time so didn't complain too much.
