Bringing in Neres completely changed Ajax game. I was worried then I saw the front 4 before kick off especially considering our full backs. Not going to bother talking much about our full backs because the weaknesses are clear and obvious to see. Becoming a bit worried with Kepa. Thought he showed good signs last season. This season it feels like he has gone backwards. He may need dropping imo. Something has to wake him up.

People really think Alonso can push Emerson out of the team. No chance.
  3. Chelsea 4 Ajax 4

Stop giving away these silly free kicks.
  4. Chelsea 4 Ajax 4

Going to be a long night for the full backs.
  5. Chelsea 4 Ajax 4

Front 4 are causing us serious problems. The movement in between them is very good.

That was not at top speed, should have saved it. Seemed a tad slow. 1st min I will let it go.

The style we play now is nothing like Napoli did under Sarri. “Sarriball” takes far more technical ability than we have. That is why we struggled to adapt to it. It is very rigid and you basically need a team with technical ability as good as City to play it. Under Frank we play far more direct which suits us. We don’t try to over pass it and over complicate things. This is what helps us move the ball quickly. If you asked Liverpool to attempt Sarriball they would completely fail because they do not have enough technical ability for it. The only attacking player we had that was fully suited to Sarriball was actually Hazard. Problem is when teams park the bus and there is no space the only player that could unlock was Hazard. Willian and Pedro never had this ability. When teams park the bus it is hard to move it quickly past them. This is where technical ability and creativity comes into play. This is what makes City create clear cut chances regardless of who parks the bus against them. They have technical ability and creativity all around the pitch. We never had this last season. So for us to play a system like Sarriball we would need around 9 highly technical players with amazing ability. Frank system is more like Klopp/ Poch system. A lot of it is based on being direct, with runs in behind and balls in the box. We don’t focus on possession and short exchanges. Only reason you may think it is more like Sarri is because we have two very good technical midfielders in Kova and Jorg who pass very well. Sometimes these two may play a bit of Sarriball but the rest of the team plays far more direct.

Yeah , we are all going to see Conte and Sarri differently. It is an endless debate. Even how people judge success is different. I seem to remember a similar Sarri Conte debate few months ago or so.

Got a feeling Frank wont risk Emerson. Just coming back from a hamstring injury two quick games without much rest could give him a setback. Could see Alonso back in but I would rather see James to be honest.

It is new tactics I would say. We attack in a completely different way to last season. We move the ball quickly and using different areas of the pitch to attack from. Our movement is more free especially with the AM’s and less rigid. Playing out from the back does not all go through one player and many times we play it long to Tammy even when we aren’t under any pressure . These are all tactical decisions that have been brought in by Frank. It is not about which player is playing. The difference in tactics is pretty clear to me.

Conte system certainly was not possession or controlling. It was a counter attacking system. Thing is with Conte I understood his system. It was not entertaining for most games but I could understand the football he was trying to play. I did not fully agree with it especially playing counter attacking football against lower half teams, but with Sarri it seemed with certain games we seemed more interested in possession than scoring. How we can call it an attacking system when sometimes Kante was the only player in the box is beyond me. At best we only had 2 in the box in most scenarios. In most games we played with 3 dm’s who never looked comfortable in the final third. Our strikers played deep and barely made runs in behind. This was also when we had Morata too. Europa league were the only games in which it looked like an attacking system but most of those teams are very poor. You can say we intended to move the ball quickly but even in open games when the space was there we seemed more interested in playing the shorter easier passes. We barely took any risks with the ball in the final third but seemed more likely to take risks with playing out from the back. Surely it should be the other way around or even taken risks in both?

He has changed things tactically for the team and Jorginho. Jorg does not solely get relied on to bring the ball out. Not all of our play goes through him which makes him more all around I would say rather than just recycling possession. He now has other things he is doing rather than just keeping it simple. Maybe Sarri slightly held back Jorginho? The team style of play is very different. I never really saw our system under Sarri as an attacking system but rather a possession/controlling system. We did not get many players into the box and we focused too much on controlling the game. We rarely played direct or moved it quickly. Attackers have more freedom in this system. The positions the wingers take are difficult to track. They can run in behind wide and central positions. A clear tactical change is that we do not force play down the left. Having all our attacking minded players on the left last season ( Hazard, Barkley/RLC, Emerson/Alonso ) then defensively better minded players on the right ( Willian/Pedro, Kante, Azpi ) made no sense really. It created a a weakness where teams could attack us easily on the left hand side. We also struggled to go forward on the right side which made us more predictable and likely to go down the left. I think it was Jose who said it best that it is very easy to understand and predict how we are going to play. Teams figured us out by November and we kind of became reliant on Hazard to do some individual brilliance to bail us out. Who knows how things will go in the future but attacking wise we are less predictable and can hurt teams in many ways. Something I could not say last season.

I thought this game was on Tuesday?
  14. Watford 1 Chelsea 2

Agreed. It is so easy to press him into giving it away. Just take a look at Emerson today and how hard it is to press him into giving it away. In tight spaces Emerson is so much better and this helps with the build up. Being press resistant can make a difference for full backs with how they use the ball. It gives them more angles to the game and how to play.

The right hand side on the ball was poor. Can’t count the number of times they gave it away under no pressure. We should only focus passing out the back from the left. Glad to have Emerson back. So comfortable on the ball and moves it very well. Supports his winger very well. Also defended well, looked tired towards the end. Zouma was fantastic. Complete beast today. Tammy, Zouma ,Mount and Kova very impressive.

No pen’s or magic free kick’s to bail out Man u this time. Hope our midweek defeat keeps Ole in the job for a while. That would be the only positive from that defeat.
  17. Chelsea 1 Manchester United 2

James could get more games. Lamps could play Azpi on the left and James on the right like we saw with Burnley. I think James will get a good amount of games as long as he stays fit. Probably likely to make 20 starts from now to the end if he stays fit and considering we don’t drop out of other competitions early.
  18. Chelsea 1 Manchester United 2

Agreed. The problem also was the midfield 3 which was a bad combination against a team that will sit back and park the bus. It felt like watching a game last season under Sarri when we had Kova Jorg and Kante against low block defensive teams. We needed a no.8 or no.10 last night to link the attack. Michy was often isolated and lacks the hold up play ability.
  19. Chelsea 1 Manchester United 2

I would be tempted to recall Moses and let Pedro go in Jan at this rate. Can’t see what he does for us anymore. Feels like we would be a better team with 10 men everytime he plays. Just runs around doing nothing really. Can’t trust him in possession either.
  20. Chelsea 1 Manchester United 2

It is rare for a free kick from that range to be that quality. Pretty sure if you watched the last 30 free kicks Rashford has taken none have been as good as that. Just our luck.
  21. Chelsea 1 Manchester United 2

Probably the worst team to go 1-0 down against because all they do is park the bus and counter hoping for something lucky. If we go 1-0 up we win this game I am pretty sure. Alonso against teams with pace like this he usually struggles not really surprised. Many players played in patches. Guehi and James only players that stood out.
  22. Chelsea 1 Manchester United 2

Done nothing from open play and they score from two dead ball situations.
  23. Chelsea 1 Manchester United 2

Pulisic and CHO staying too wide for my liking. Need them more central with the full backs keeping the width. Midfield 3 are all similar so they won’t really offer much going forward like Mount does.
  24. Chelsea 1 Manchester United 2

Both teams have been awful to be honest. No chances created. Should be 0-0 if it wasn’t for that silly moment.
  25. Chelsea 1 Manchester United 2

Could have swapped Pedro for one of the Kova or Jorg. Don’t need both for this game.
