  1. CFCnet 19/20 Awards

As we approach the end of a very strange season, I will try and get the poll up again for the 'CFC Net Awards', hopefully, in the next week or so. Categories we had last year were: Player of the Season Rate all players (Team of the Season) Game of the season Goal of the season Best new signing* Non-Chelsea player of the season Rate our season overall Most informative CFCnet member Most entertaining CFCnet member * Maybe a bit of a non-category this year Does anyone think any other categories should be added for this years?
  2. Transfer Talk Topic

Wow, when you break it down like that, that just makes it even more ridiculous, one every 2 and a half games! By comparison, how many have we had in all comps? I know we had 7 to their 14 in the PL, which is pretty incredible, but be interested to see the comparison between them and the other 'big' teams in Europe. I did see on twitter last night that United have (unsurprisingly) the most penalties this season in all comps for all teams in top 5 leagues. United fans claiming it's because their attackers are so 'fluid and quick in the box', sure for some of them it is... but 21 pens in a season, come on now.
  3. Champions League 2019/2020

With the draw tomorrow, I thought I'd set up a topic for us to discuss all things Champions League... what are our chances? Who do we want/not want to be drawn against? Potential return of Hazard? Pots as they currently stand are: Pot 1 Liverpool Chelsea Barcelona Bayern Munich Juventus Manchester City Paris Saint-Germain Zenit Pot 2 (unconfirmed) Real Madrid Atletico Madrid Borussia Dortmund Napoli Shakhtar Donetsk Tottenham Ajax Benfica Pot 3 (unconfirmed) Lyon Bayer Leverkusen Salzburg Olympiacos Club Brugge Valencia Inter Milan Dinamo Zagreb Pot 4 (unconfirmed) Lokomotiv Moscow Genk Galatasaray RB Leipzig Slavia Prague Red Star Belgrade Atalanta Lille For me the hardest draw we could get would be: CHELSEA Real Madrid Inter Milan RB Leipzig and the 'easiest' would be: CHELSEA Shakhtar Donetsk Club Brugge Red Star Belgrade
  4. CFCnet 19/20 Awards

I would guess it's to do with Pulisic missing so much through injury, so when he's played he's been our best player, but with so much time out throughout the season, many felt he wasn't worth POTS... at a guess.
  5. CFCnet 19/20 Awards

Giroud is an interesting shout, although as he only featured in the second half of the season, probably counts against him and is the reason he didn’t get many votes. Mount was who I voted for, I was surprised he didn’t win.
  6. CFCnet 19/20 Awards

    Who did you vote for?
  7. CFCnet 19/20 Awards

He got (significantly) more votes than any other player.
  8. Time to give Willian some credit

A good servant, a frustrating servent, but you could rarely fault his work ethic. I feel like Willian will always be one of those players that never quite hit his ceiling for one reason or another. I won't miss seeing him line up to take corner after corner though! Good luck to him in whatever he does next, probably Arsenal and thanks for the hard work and a decent selection of memorable goals, some quality performance and a big part of many trophy wins. Now on to the future.
  9. CFCnet 19/20 Awards

No problem! Droy doing the double this year, clearly others need to step up next season.
  10. Bayern Munich 4 Chelsea 1 (7 - 1 on aggregate)

Really? So, what exactly were your expectations? Personally, before we kicked a ball this season and based on the squad Lampard inherited, the fact our new manager couldn't sign ANY players and we had sold our (by far) best player in the summer who contributed to at least 50% of our goals previously, the injuries we had for the start of the season and the realisation we would have to rely on some of our academy players who hadn't ever played PL football, I honestly went into the season with the expectations of: - get top 6 and ensure some kind of European football next season (exceeded) - have a decent cup run (check!) - get out of the group stages of the CL (check!) - blood some youngsters and begin building foundations for us to move forward into a new era (check) Are these the expectations I have going into next season? Absolutely not and I'll judge next season against my expectations for that one, but to call this last campaign as disastrous is ridiculous. We had some disastrous moments, but the season overall, I would say we've done alright. In terms of the assistant manager, completely agree, I said it months ago and I'd say it even louder now, but again to say that this doesn't bode well for Frank seems slightly unfair, do you think all the great managers do it alone or do you think all the great managers have exceptional support staff and assist managers? Go and ask Fergie if he'd have been as successful as he was without those assistant managers he had through his career. If it doesn't bode well for anyone, it's Jody Morris I would say. In terms of where we go and find one, that is a very good question. I'd go all out for Steve Holland, I'm sure he could split his time between Chelsea and England if he really needed to.

  13. Bayern Munich 4 Chelsea 1 (7 - 1 on aggregate)

I'm so glad that draws an end to our season, it was a horrible game we just had to get done. To be completely honest, a lot of our players out there seemed to be knackered after about an hour and up until then, I felt like they made a good account of themselves and managed to at least stay in the game. We can't judge too harshly, as we were playing (IMO) the best team in Europe right now, who are 4/5 years ahead with their side. What I found most interesting was Rio's analysis after the game, now I don't particularly like the guy, but he was spot on - it's so clear that NOBODY back there when we're defending, is talking; the midfielders are not directing the defenders to the runners into the box that they haven't been able to track, the full-back is not directing the CBs to let them know someone has arrived behind them where they can't see and the result is, that Bayern always had at least 1 man free almost every time the ball came into the box. He, or it may have been Owen Hargreaves, also backed up what I've been saying in recent weeks, we don't necessarily need to out and spend £50/60million on a CB, the first thing we need to do is sign an actual organiser back there, someone who can organise the defenders, will shout at the others and tell them where they need to be... the more I look at it, the more I feel Dunk would be a great signing for us. Anyway, this season is over, let's take a deep breath and bring on next season... come on FRANK!
  14. Bayern Munich 4 Chelsea 1 (7 - 1 on aggregate)

    Yep, he's suspended.
  15. Bayern Munich 4 Chelsea 1 (7 - 1 on aggregate)

For anyone who hasn't seen it, the CFCnet Awards voting will close after the Bayern game.
  16. CFCnet 19/20 Awards

I'll post the winners from this on Sunday, just n case anything crazy happens on Saturday and we get some last-minute votes for a new game of the Season!
  17. Bayern Munich 4 Chelsea 1 (7 - 1 on aggregate)

This should be even more fun given the issues with our squad: Alonso & Jorginho suspended Azpilicueta, Gilmour, Pulisic & Pedro injured Willian, RLC & Kante not fully fit (at best) Presume we'll see a bench with some extra youth on and no idea what team we'll see, maybe now is the time to try Tammy and Giroud together, unless Willian is fully fit to start? I personally wouldn't risk Kante in this, leave him on the bench again and let him recover properly for a change. Caballero James Zouma Rudiger Emerson Mount - Kovacic - Barkley CHO Giroud Tammy Subs: Kepa, Tomori, Christensen, Kante, RLC, Anjorin, Willian, Batshuayi, Broja
  18. Arsenal 2 Chelsea 1

Tactically got it wrong today IMO, Arteta saw our high line and the weakness that gave us and instructed his team to counter it and we never seemed to adjust properly. The referee was shocking, Kovacic second yellow wasn't even a foul, the handball and probably red card just ignored (why can't VAR step in there?), the referee gave us nothing all game, a really shocking refereeing display. Pulisic injury was a massive blow for us, we lost so much from our game when we lost him and would have thrown Franks HT team talk in the bin and then I think we just never got any control back at all. I'm not going to criticise the players too much, they've put in a hell of an effort this season and this result doesn't change what has actually been a good first season for Frank and the boys.
  19. Arsenal 2 Chelsea 1

So no Willian in the squad, presume that means he is out the door. Frank told us he was fit enough for the squad, but he doesn't make it in... Unless something was tweaked VERY late on?
  20. Arsenal 2 Chelsea 1

CONFIRMED: Caballero Azpi - Zouma - Rusiger James - Jorginho - Kovacic - Alonso Mount - Giroud - Pulisic Bench: Kepa, Christensen, Christensen, Tomori, Emerson, Kante, Barkley, CHO, Pedro, Tammy
  21. Arsenal 2 Chelsea 1

Willy Azpi - Zouma - Rudiger James - Kante - Kovacic - Alonso Mount - Giroud - Pulisic Bench: Kepa, Christensen, Emerson, Barkley, Jorginho, Pedro, Willian, CHO, Tammy
  22. Arsenal 2 Chelsea 1

    Happy Birthday, mate!
  23. Official: Chelsea Sign Kepa Arrizabalaga

Yeah, it's a massive waste. If I remember correctly CL was at Rennes when Cech was there as well and was recommended to Chelsea by Petr himself... why TC didn't want to work with him, who knows? Maybe his ego couldn't take being coached by his predecessors' man?
  24. Official: Chelsea Sign Kepa Arrizabalaga

Which makes it all so much worse. Cech & Cudicini knocking around the club and our former GK coach Christophe Lollichon is now Head of GK Department. Apparently so... it's a great job if you can get it, just not at that club thank you very much!
