  1. Official: Chelsea Sign Kepa Arrizabalaga

I'm a fan of Kepa and genuinely feel we've upgraded from our previous GK. The money was a lot, but spread over his 7 year contract, it actually isn't that bad. It took him a while to fully settle, but he's growing in confidence and is starting to command a lot more from his position, shouting at the players in front of him etc, which is always good to see. We have to remember he signed so close to the season starting, he had no time to come over and meet his team mates, buy a house and get settled in to life and so it's understandable his first few weeks were a little shaky. Personally I think we've got one of the top goalkeepers in the world on our books for a long time to come. Think of all the uncertainty we've had over the GK position, almost since Cech left and now we have a top goalkeeper, who seemingly isn't interested in hearing his own voice all the time and just wants to get on with his job and does it well.

Surely this will be the one for wholesale changes, I would expect to see: Caballero Zappa Cahill Christensen Emerson Ampadu Fabregas Barkley CHO Giroud RLC Bench: Whoever is eligible to be in the squad but not Luiz, Azpi, Rudiger, Kante, Jorginho, Hazard or Willian

My biggest fear with this match is that our players will simply not turn up and fight. Nobody expects us to get a result, but if the players go out with that attitude we will not only be turned over easily but it will be incredibly disappointing to see. What I'd love to see is Hazard take this game by the scruff of the neck and drive the team forward etc... but my guess is, we won't even know he's on the pitch. I hope I am proven wrong. I agree with the above that Kovacic should be playing in this game, definitely the best option for this kind of game, but that said I would still like to see RLC play as I think he deserves it, but no way he won't be picking Kante.

I'd be very surprised to get those fees. To be honest, I'd keep Bats if he'd be happy to be 2nd/3rd choice, but Morata has to go for his sake and ours - it is not working out at all and it's costing us so many points now.

Fortunately I'm away this weekend for my eldest daughters birthday, so I won't be able to watch. I might ignore the score entirely and then I'll never need to know how bad it is. I've been positive up to now, but I am now very worried for what's going to happen with this squad and manager. I REALLY hope Sarri is backed in January and can bring in players more suited to his system and striker or 2 we can actually rely on to score. He also needs to start working on a plan B asap.
  6. Wolverhampton Wanderers 2 Chelsea 1

That's what I'd go with too. I'd like to see CHO on the bench, but won't hold my breath.
  7. Chelsea 2 Fulham 0

I think RLC deserves a start personally. Whenever he's played this season he's performed well, he's quick, strong, skilful and has the ability and want to drive forward from midfield. I don't expect it to happen, but I think it's about time he got a decent run in the team. I'd also give Emerson some PL game time and CHO some time off the bench. I expect we'll see this: Kepa Azpilicueta . Rudiger . Luiz . Alonso Kante . Jorginho . Kovacic Willian . Giroud . Hazard Subs: Caballero, Cahill, Emerson, Fabregas, Barkley, Pedro, Morata Our biggest squad we've had in ages and the match day squad is so predictable.
  8. Chelsea 4 PAOK Salonica 0

Sarri has to find a way to get Cesc back in to this side and also needs to get Kante in to a more natural position, but that will mean him changing his tactical approach, which I can't see happening.
  9. Chelsea 4 PAOK Salonica 0

Fabregas knocking on the first team door tonight, as is Giroud and Pedro and RLC are close to it. CHO done well, clearly a big talent. Emerson and Zappa also giving Sarri something to think about.

    CHO!!!

Although it's 'only' Championship level, I feel like right now he'd be an improvement on Morata.

This has become an annoyingly tricky game - an unconvincing performance in this one, following the spurs debacle and the press will be on us and a few heads in the squad may begin to drop. I'm more than confident we'll get the result, but if we make hard work of it, that could begin to unsettle a few. So based on that, does Sarri stick or twist? Presumably the plan would have been to rest plenty for this game, however we need to bounce back quickly after Saturday and this is a great opportunity to do that. Personally I would expect quite a few still to be rested, but wouldn't be shocked if we saw more first teams than expected. I'd be tempted to try out Rudiger and Christensen as a CB pairing and Kante in a deeper role. I would play: Kepa Zappa Rudiger Christensen Emerson Kante Kovacic Pedro RLC CHO Giroud Subs: Willy, Azplicueta, Cahill, Fabregas, Barkley, Willian, Morata with a view to playing this team vs Fulham: Kepa Azpilicueta Rudiger Christensen Alonso Kante Jorginho Willian Barkley Hazard Giroud Subs: Willy, Zappa, Cahill, Fabregas, Kovacic, Pedro, Morata * I understand it's unlikely we'll change formation, but I just personally feel it's worth looking at over the next couple of games.

It's fine guys, we'll beat Fulham next weekend and Spurs play Arsenal so at least one of them will drop points. We haven't finished outside the top 4 just yet.
  14. Tottenham Hotspur 3 Chelsea 1

Maybe I'll write down my thoughts earlier next time and send the direct to Sarri, to give him pre warning...
  15. Tottenham Hotspur 3 Chelsea 1

To say Sarri has been found out is a little premature. It would appear teams have found a way to stop his plan A and that happens - also, not all teams will be able to stop it the way Everton and Spurs have. Sarri will be found out if he now doesn't adapt going forward. What's happening now is Sarri's chance to show people how good he is and to show he has the ability to adapt and change things (hopefully). For me, the things he needs to consider are: CB Luiz isn't good enough, however much he offers with his passing, we can't be a top team with a player who makes that many mistakes. So he then needs to consider who should partner Rudiger (who is quality), is Christensen good enough (yet)? Could Azpi play there in a back 4? Do we need to go out and sign a top quality CB? RB Is Azpilicueta the right man to play RB in Sarri's system? If not can Zappa fill that position? If the answer to both is 'no', then we have to bring someone in asap. CM The better teams can stop Jorginho and if you stop him you stop our system, so what is the plan B? Can we play Kante more defensive where he is better and if we do does Jorginho play further forward or does he only play in certain games? Kovacic or Barkley, he needs to stick with one for a good run of games. AM Give Willian a rest. If doesn't trust Pedro to start (Why?!) then he needs to sign someone and get CHO out on loan so he can get some football. STK Sign one and get rid of Morata. Accept Morata isn't going to come good and put him out of his misery (and us).

It just wasn't our day. Sometimes players have a bad day at the office and you can carry them, sometimes a few have a bad day and you have to change things early to try and counter it and sometimes all 11 players have an off day and you just can't get away with it, especially against a team like that who can break on you so quickly and clinically. I just hate it was against that side... Urghh. Player rankings, because it could be fun: Kepa - 7 Azpi - 3 Rudiger - 3 Luiz - 1 Alonso - 4 Kante - 4 Jorginho - 2 Kovacic - 3 Willian - 2 Morata - 1 Hazard - 3 Barkley - 4 Pedro - 3 Giroud - 5
  17. Tottenham Hotspur 3 Chelsea 1

Ironically, Azpilicueta's weakest position is his supposed natural position RB. Great CB and LB but RB he doesn't seem quite the same player.
  18. Tottenham Hotspur 3 Chelsea 1

    Yep, agree with that.
  19. Tottenham Hotspur 3 Chelsea 1

Luiz got to be dropped for the next game, regardless of how good he can pass, his defending today has been absolutely awful, awful. He has massively let his team mates down today. This is a very bad performance, some will say it's been coming, but we need to shake it off and go again - these are good players and they will turn it around, I'm sure of it. Let's not start questioning Sarri, let's give him the chance to fix this and make it better. January could be very big for our season, top 4 is a MUST. COME ON CHELS!
  20. Tottenham Hotspur 3 Chelsea 1

Question... Why is Luiz moving out of the way for the second goal? I'd have subbed him straight away for that, it's shocking.
  21. Tottenham Hotspur 3 Chelsea 1

This is awful, we are getting overrun all over the pitch. Jorginho without time offers not a lot - will Sarri change it though? I doubt it. I think if you drop Kante back in to the base of the 3, he performs better, move Jorginho further forward and he'll actually have more space to make things happen. We should have had at least 1 pen, potentially 2, but this ref is AWFUL - how's he booking Hazard for going up for a header? Absolute joke.
  22. Tottenham Hotspur 3 Chelsea 1

Presumably the players got the kick off time wrong because they definitely haven't started playing yet. Awful!
  23. Tottenham Hotspur 3 Chelsea 1

Amazing to think they have a very good keeper sitting on the bench and this chap keeps starting, whoever he is.
  24. Tottenham Hotspur 3 Chelsea 1

Agree with this, this one of Spurs' cup finals and as you say, if things aren't going quite their way then violence will ensue and the referee will unfortunately miss most of the incidents, meaning limited free kicks and cards given out in the game. We need to keep our heads in this one, Rudiger and Luiz are the ones that concern me - Rudiger can be hot headed at times and Luiz could easily be drawn in to things he doesn't need to which will throw off his game. I wonder if this is one of the games where Sarri should ask Kante to play more similar to the role he's played over the last few years and sit deeper, breaking up play - my guess is he won't though. Giroud should probably be starting this one, Morata is not built physically or mentally for this kind of game I fear. COME ON CHELSEA!!!
  25. Tottenham Hotspur 3 Chelsea 1

This. The battle for top 4 has probably never been as competitive as it currently is, so to be in the mix is pretty decent going considering all the changes we've made this season. Regardless of howe we've started, for me the target is still top 4 and back in the Champions League. I don't see that as pessimistic, I see that as realistic when you look at the quality of teams we're up against and the form they are in.
