in the mordern game, forwards (especially lone forwards) are there to cause panic in the opposing defence, to open up space for wingers, attacking mids, do simple lay offs, hold the ball up etc. It dosent matter if he scores or not, its whether his contributions lead to goals that count.

Only time will tell if we are right. I hope Bates' talking trash, if not, 24 million is alot of money for 2 youngsters who may not even make it in the big time.

How could you guys complain about Essien? he's the perfect compliment to lamps and Maka, he's both combined into one! One of he best players so far this season for me, the best is still Gallas!

er.. Huth and forssell were not products from the youth team though. Huth was from union berlin and forssell from helenski, so they hardly count. but chelsea sure are stepping up in producing more home grown talent, so lets hope the likes of manicienne and watt come good.

Well, I don't see Mutu as a striker at all! I see him playing in the 'hole' like Joe Cole. I think Mutu can excel in an attacking midfield role better than a striking one, I think the triangle of Drogba, Gudjohnsen, and Mutu will be explosive!
