  1. Everton 3 Chelsea 6

Very very impressed with Costa. He showed up in a big game, even when he was getting wound up. It's amazing having a world class striker at our club.

I'd be very surprised if Atletico sign Schurrle unless they overpay. I'd also be surprised if we signed Khedira, would mean Mikel going the other way. I reckon MvG will transition into first choice over the coming years. Would also be interested if we can actually sign Varane. I doubt it though as at that age Real are likely to want to keep him, irrespective of any deal involving Cech. Our net spend seems quite low, I thought it was to our advantage if we maximise the amount we were allowed to lose under FFP each season.

I've already mentioned that I believe it will be Cech. Having two World Class keepers would be wasteful during the era of FFP, I just can't see it happening. What I feel will happen is that both will be a part of the club for a few weeks, and then Cech will go before deadline as Jose has enough time to assess. Once again just opinion. As for attacking midfield, all are foreigners. Once again this is just supposition, I'm not meaning for this to be anything more than that, I just wanted to discuss the merits that someone like Isco would bring compared to what we have, given that he may be available. In terms of someone we desperately need, we're pretty much set for most positions. That doesn't mean we shouldn't assess what is available, we can always manage foreign player issues after the fact.

Once again, should he be signed then a foreigner in attacking midfield will most likely go the other way, then we trim another foreigner from another area. I don't mean to be rude but I've already mentioned this and you've ignored it. If you can look past the foreigner issue, then is there logic in the move? Does he improve our attacking options? Does he provide something we don't have? Is he likely to be available given the James Rodriguez signing? Also 'need' depends on your perspective. We don't really need anyone right now to be competitive, but pursuing potential World Class talent in this area of the pitch is important, albeit beyond our needs. imho he would have a similar impact on the squad to Hazard. There are stronger links to City, but we were linked with him significantly in the past.

One player goes the other way in that circumstance, and we trim the remaining foreigner from somewhere else. It's all supposition anyways, but can you just humour the logic behind it? My best guess is that Cech will go. It's a massive waste to have 2 world class keepers, and I believe we just re-signed Schwarzer.

Odds on him to sign for Chelsea are 20-1 on Skybet. He could be used in central attacking mid or down the left (Hazard central) and is a significant upgrade in terms of both goal threat, control and creativity to either Oscar / Schurrle. Isco is also younger than Oscar. The argument can be made about his defensive ability, but where this differs from the Mata situation is that he has the turn of pace and trickery to run at defenders all day and to create space for himself, much like Hazard. He most likely wouldn't cost nearly as much as James Rodriguez either. I'll go out on a limb and say Isco would have a greater impact than Pogba if given the choice. A second outlet that could run at players would improve us greatly, and a Matic - Fabregas pivot is already very good.

I'd also like to ask the question, partially as I haven't really been following the situation closely, but if Isco really is available then wouldn't he improve our side tremendously in central attacking midfield? He and Hazard would play off each other incredibly well imho.

We clearly have funds to spend, and while Jose may indicate otherwise, we're probably going to strengthen if the right player is available. I feel central defence will not be strengthened as we have at least 3 senior players plus a talented Zouma in central defence. We also have sufficient versatility at the full-back positions. In the pivots, Matic and Fabregas are going to be first choice, with Ramires, Mikel and a talented MvG available. Someone surely has to go if we were to sign another quality midfielder. I'm of the opinion that Mikel is more of a back-up player and his wages probably do not cost the earth. I like Ramires but if we have a chance to bring in an excellent midfielder then he should go. Schurrle is good, but is at a similar level as Oscar and Willian. If he goes then so be it. There's decent talent available and the bigger teams are financially constrained, right now we are not. We basically have enough to finance for one top shelf player at a young age. As for Torres, I don't get it. Jose talks about mentality a lot, so surely he should go. Defended Torres for so very many years, but if the guy can't do simple striker things then what's the point? Perhaps he should play out on the wing or something. He doesn't do half badly from wide areas, don't understand why this was never tried.

A+ It would however provide space for us to bring in a better attacking mid than we already have. Schurrle / Oscar / Willian are good but are at similar ability at present.

I'm definitely no expert on the subject, and while it may only concern proceeds from future transfers, I assume that the issue lies in the need for the agent to divest their economic ownership for the free transfer to occur in England. As there are no proceeds from sale, there's no benefit for the third party to accept this.
  12. Transfer Talk Topic

Apparently his agent owns a portion of his economic rights, and this is not compatible with the legislation in the UK. Either way, I didn't rate Tiago back then and am happy he's not signing. I'm hoping this will afford more opportunity to Van Ginkel.
  13. Transfer Talk Topic

There are a lot of stories going around regarding the third party ownership issue with Tiago.

Tying performance into remuneration is nothing new. What I'm saying is that It's much harder to move established contracts to lower fixed remuneration. What Droy was saying is correct too, all things being equal this will not drop your wage bill.
  15. Transfer Talk Topic

Cech out. Pogba in. Incidentally on SkyBet we're 4/7 on Pogba and 7/2 on Barkley. I wouldn't write off the signing of another defender early on however, or another striker if Lukaku were to go.
  16. Transfer Talk Topic

That volley against Man Utd too. Best third striker we ever had, all the best.
  17. Transfer Talk Topic

Breaking even isn't your only concern though. Your team had real trouble with ours last season and we have strengthened ridiculously for minimal outlay due to the Luiz, Ba and possibly Cech sales. Due to this, our team could still likely spend another £50mil and comply. Does your team have a Luiz to sell perhaps? That would be the most interesting negotiation process... "You know that $100k per week you're definitely getting now? How about we reduce that to $75k per week and we make the other $25k a maybe? :D" I'm sure that would go down like a lead balloon.

As opposed to your opinion, which really is fact... Or even providing some points? Not even one? Easier to focus on one point, dismiss it without rationale and ridicule others eh. You're not exactly promoting an excellent environment for conversation. "Hey everyone, I can't take this guy seriously" is not an attempt at discussion. You haven't even tried, and you're not being respectful.
  19. Transfer Talk Topic

Keep in mind he's about 4 years younger. We were referring to highly rated young players.
  20. Transfer Talk Topic

You make fair points, but I bring up the Kaka comparison mainly as I considered him as one of the best central attacking midfielders at this age, and at the time he was fast, had an extraordinary shot and could beat players with ease. Oscar doesn't have those attributes to leverage off and is therefore playing a different role, a more defensive and tactical role as you describe.
  21. Transfer Talk Topic

I was hoping it wouldn't come to this, when someone is furious at a different view and wants to be more obnoxious than to have a discussion. We are competing with teams with multiple world-class players. Part of competing in this manner will be not settling for next best. Off the top of my head Januzaj, Goetze, Draxler, Reus, Pogba (DM), some that we own may even have higher potential. Lots of kids work hard and represent their country at a young age. They too can become better. I don't think Oscar has the monopoly on working hard. It's regrettable that those few months were the most crucial for us, so what you're saying is we should have used someone else as Oscar wasn't up to the number of games. The game time we give a player can be seen as a sort of investment on our part. If he's not progressing rapidly from that investment, is that not of concern? As opposed to the retain what we have as there's nothing better out there approach? I didn't say we should sell, only that we should consider it if the right player were to become available based on merits and costs. Don't let my actual points get in the way of your rant thought... It's isn't the same way, Oscar does not have the same role as Lampard. However, attacking minded players all benefit from explosive pace, excellent control and creativity don't they? And many of the world-class players have these attributes right? It doesn't look like you're actually doing much reading, or even wanting to have a constructive discussion. It's more an emotional ride for you, based on your personal outrage of my opposing views. Feel better?
  22. Transfer Talk Topic

Well that depends on how good we think he'll become relative to who is available on the market and at what cost. Oscar simply cannot do what a player of Hazard's class can, whether it be now or in a few years. You could argue they have different roles but there's still a large disparity between Hazard's pace, control and creativity compared with Oscar's. Hazard imho is on the fast-track to becoming one of the world's best, but I can't say that about Oscar. Kaka looked a great deal better at 23. So if a similarly aged player with higher production and a more suitable skill-set in that position became available, shouldn't it be considered?
  23. Transfer Talk Topic

Agree, his overall qualities should make him well suited to this role as opposed to your usual number 10. Not sure how he will cope in a defensively overloaded situation though. It would however allow us to play Fabregas further forward where he would be a stronger creator and goal threat. I would imagine you would want one of La Liga's best creators sitting just behind the striker and wingers. Then again he played the deeper role at Arsenal just fine.
  24. Transfer Talk Topic

Lukaku at age 19-21 has been producing a strong goal return in our league. That's the stat you want being produced from a striker, and he hasn't been given a proper go for us. Oscar is now at a higher age and has been given solid minutes for THIS club. His play time is not producing the right kind of output for an attacking midfielder, but he's being used instead for his defensive merits. I haven't really seen his actual stats but my impression is that his runs past an opponent, chances created and goal return would not be very high based on the time that he's played. It's just my impression, if someone who does follow the stats more can prove otherwise then I'd stand corrected.
  25. Transfer Talk Topic

The point I'm trying to make is his production relative to the heavy amount of minutes played isn't very strong, and he's been a part of our team for quite a while so he should be settled. Does this mean that after the World Cup he has a reason for producing similar displays to the end of last season as he hasn't had an extended rest? His youth is meant to give him an advantage in this respect. As for his role for Brazil, it's important to note he is definitely not the focus for opposition defences, which provides him more opportunity. I guess what I'm saying is it's very easy to focus on his age and to assume he will be the player we want him to be, but at 23 (in Sept) this is fading. He's been very usable at a young age for us and for Brazil based on his defensive and tactical soundness, but there will come a time that we will strengthen our defensive midfield, making these qualities relatively less beneficial compared to a player with more control, pace and sheer production with respect to goals and assists, these are the qualities that opposing teams fear. There are a lot of players who are further along than him in this respect, and at a similar age.
