We play Liverpool, Arsenal, Leicester and United in the league within about the next six weeks. Then we'll know much better how this season will go and whether we are short on quality and needed more enforcements.

Although that is true most seasons, with no European football at all, I think that'll be enough. Assuming Conte has a plan for Batman back up when Costa's hamstring inevitably goes.

Can't believe the negativity about Luiz.... Was prone to an error, but they were nowhere near as common as Jamie Redknapp and the red tops would have you believe. A leader, a man with actual balls, maybe his concentration will improve under Conte and there's absolutely no doubting his footballing ability.

Here's an article on Pato from south american expert Tim Vickery. Might make you feel a bit better about the signing, still not what we need in my opinion, though.

As always James, I wish I shared your boundless optimism. Even if we did have something big up our sleeve it's likely to be a very overpriced player. January market is notoriously bad value and clubs can smell desperation (yes I know there are exceptions). I don't want Vardy and I'm not of the opinion it's ever good business or football sense to spend big on players over 26/27 (again there are exceptions, many more that comply). Edit: Also, Falcao isn't going back until the window. Not sure why you keep saying he'll go during the window.

Miazga doesn't really count. He's another who'll never wear Chelsea blue for any significant number of games. Think Pato will be our one and only signing, I think. I don't see Pato as CF, certainly not in this league, certainly not in this team with this manager and his preference for direct football. He's just not physical enough. Still, we are lacking creative players who like to play on the left and drift inside..... Oh wait

Quite. There's a lot of money flowing through that league now and clubs can afford to keep players longer. As for physicality, ask Tevez what playing on Brazil is like. The kicking he got here is nothing compared to what Brazilian defenders will do to you, especially if you're Argentinian.

I suspect we'll piddle around and panic at the end. After all, we are the new arsenal in almost every way

Anyone know where we currently stand on homegrown players and what the quota is for next season?

Can you elaborate more on how that works? Sounds pretty interesting

That's a strange one for me. Why would he want Milan and not juve? I am genuinely asking you, not questioning the legitimacy of your claim, as I'm aware you follow the Italian league

Work permit will be the problem. Like I said earlier, I'm not up on Greg Dyke's new rules 100%. Can't see us going for a 26 year old without confidence of having a work permit granted

Thank you. I'll never forget it, as it was my first game at Stamford Bridge. I was quite young, but I was fanatical from that day on. Most of my family support united and have never been to a game, they love football but going to games regularly gives you a passion that's hard to explain.

Anyone here particularly au fait with Greg Dyke's new rules? What's the odds of this Chinese defender who according to him we're trying to sign getting a work permit? Can't see his club digging their heels in, somehow, seeing as they play in the Chinese super league. So if he's not making it up, it's just down to a work permit. He's definitely not one for the loan army, he's 26

The other day I mentioned something about John Terry to someone, who replied she had never heard of him. When she asked me who he was, I said "he's a gladiator". Gladiators don't jump over the ball
