  1. Official: Juan Mata Leaves For Man United

Not sure how to embed this video but its a pretty nice compilation of Mata's goals and assits from the 2010/2011 season.
  2. Josh Mc Eachran

While I agree that he can be unimaginative on his passing and I certainly think earlier in the season he was going for a bit more I don't agree with you're assessment on his defensive play. If you look at a comparison between Mascherano and Mikel near the bottom of the page. Anyhow, I agree with what what many have said on the page (sort of in between Simon and David08), but I think what is a key difference between Mikel other DM's is that he has a very static role in the team, which is why he is often deepest in midfield. His job is to cover, defend, and intercept first and foremost. The same role Maka played before him. The fact that he rarely gives away possession should be a plus as he is usually giving the ball to players that are not only better placed then him but are better an getting in and finishing in the final third. Mikel was to my mind, until last season, being use stopper in the team, more than an actual defensive midfielder. He covered for the centerbacks and attacking fullbacks as they ventured forward. Its only been this season where he's going forward and we've seen a bit of his flaws in terms of getting back when we're counterattacked as he's about 20 yards further forward than he's been in the past. Now if some want De Rossi or Yaya Toure (to of the best DM's in football and far more versatile than Mascherano or Khedira- who is more box to box anyhow) then you're not going to get that from Mikel. Not unless he works on his long range shooting and actually uses his shield and dribbling skill to get forward. I know that the following video I post is just a comp but he has a strong enough base now defensively to build a bit more of an attacking base from. This is the way he should play on a regular basis. Hopefully he can regain this form. As for Josh McEachran, I think he is a great player, but he's not suited for the DM role, not with the amount of reading and covering that is required, that take experience. For me he is closer to iniesta in terms of his play as a linkup between midfield and attack. We are lucky that we are getting to see him play more often, because he would certainly be behind Ballack and Deco if had remained at the club. He reminds me of Steve McManaman.

Juni, Do you know the status of Sergio Tejera? I've read some articles saying that he's on loan at Real Mallorca other articles list him as being sold to the Spanish club. Do you know the reasons surrounding his departure? Do you think he was on the cusp of the first team? Also, do you think Josh McEachran is a better player compared to Tejera at the same age? Also do you think Scott Sinclair still has a chance at the club? Do you think Di Santo should stay with the first team or be loaned out next season?

I wouldn't go as far as saying that. Kakuta has shown to be a great passer even in his limited first team games. Check out the FA Cup 2008. He played some marvelous passes.
  8. Didier Drogba

Pray tell, dear, what exactly are these "proper standards"? It all sounds a bit vague.
  9. Chelsea Reserve & Youth Team

Juni, I'm how you'd compare Sergio Tejera and Josh McEachran. Do you think Sergio left a bit too soon. Also what of Sam Hutchinson? I know he had a injury in November but there's bit little mention of him on the official site. Thanks
  10. Gael Kakuta

Wow that's high praise indeed. Do you happen to have a direct link, Blue Jones?

Nice assessment, very apt. I have been able to catch some full matches and the highlights and I have found that Stoch makes some excellent runs off the ball that are not spotted at times by the likes of Perez or some of the other forwards. He is not only fleet of foot but a quick thinker as well which makes him a far more well-rounded player IMO. I agree that another loan may be in order for next season but I prefer the Bundesliga as the most logical step up for Stoch as it is the closest to the Prem in terms of game playing style and speed of play. A team like Hertha Berlin could definitely use a player like Stoch in their side and I certainly think if he continues on this form for the rest of the season a loan to a upper table German club may be suitable.

Brief Highlights of the Twente vs. Sheriff Europa League match Admittedly the second goal was a case of poor goalkeeping (although he seems to strike the ball with a similar technique to that used by Lamps). The best goal was the disallowed goal. Excellent strike.

Decent goal by Stoch. Really looks a threat from that side.

I watched the match as well and from my viewing, David Dunn rarely got within a hairs breath of Di Santo in terms of genuine linkup play. Instead, Dunn looked to take on his man and run into blind alleys. Di Santo was often times making runs only for Diouf and Dunn to waste a opportunity by playing a square pass or going for glory. From what I watched though, Di Santo overworked himself. Ran too much trying to force the issue and often times he was caught too deep or just off the play. There was one instance when it was 4-2 a Blackburn player had a shot which was parried into Di Santo's path but he reacted to late. Worked himself to death running after lost causes instead of spending his time within the areas. However his support was nonexistent and Dunne and Diouf rarely played him through 1 v 1. I was impressed though with the fact that he many aerial battles and did manage to beat his man (from the left side against Gallas) and showed some nice feet trying to keep possession and linkup. He just didn't receive the ball. Pederson and McCarthy would have been much better players to use behind Di Santo as they actually lift there heads to pass.

Good for the youngsters. Juni, I've read your description of Sala and when I've watched him reminded a bit like Perrotta in style in that he has high energy, tenacity, and can play out wide or in midfield. What are your thoughts on him?

The MOTD highlights showed 3 CLEAR mistakes on Mancienne's part mate. Selective yes, but mistakes nonetheless. Look HERE.

Download Wolverhampton vs. Chelsea Reserve Match 1st Half 2nd Half Credits to Splatypus of maxxed Mills was excellent (big lad looks like Mikel), I am surprised he's 16. Great performances from a VERY young Chelsea side. Djalo also seems to have come on a bit, his added dynamism and tenacity has made him a threat.

Nonsense. That was all of 3 years ago. I remember he conceded a penalty against Castelen. He was skinned at RB. He is a far more mature player and certainly looked extremely comfortable in that the middle of the park and physically powerful considering he is 1.80m at most.
  20. Chelsea Reserve & Youth Team

Yes, I would say so, if he isn't a star in the Dutch league he won't have much chance at Chelsea. I think he'd need at least 9-12 goals and assists total or there abouts to be a stand out. He's got 2 goals and 1 (or 2?) assists in the Eredivise so far.

I thought his touch was pretty solid throughout, but everything you said is quite true. Utrecht were dire and to be honest I don't think it will change much for whomever Twente face outside of the top 3 (PSV, AZ, Ajax). I wonder if a loan to a smaller German club would have been better for him. Sure Twente will challenging for th title, but I don't think he will be getting nearly as much of a robust test from defenders in Holland as he would in Germany.
  24. Chelsea Reserve & Youth Team

Perhaps he's heard you as he was much more direct in last weeks match against Utrecht.
