I don't get it when people say this. Do you seriously think that Roman pays the salaries and transfer fees out of his own pocket? You may want to look at this; Have a look at slide 22. Chelsea FC had a turnover of EUR 420m in 2015. That money isn't Roman's personal income. That belongs to Chelsea FC - the entity that actually created that turnover. Plus, it should also not have escaped you that we do not spend outside of what the club makes these days. Because we have decided to adhere to FFP. It may be a stupid call, but that's the call we have made and for about a decade now we have spent £30m net/season on average in player acquisitions. Now of course, Roman could decide to use his own personal wealth to inject into the club. But he wouldn't be able to do so without getting seriously creative in order to be successful.

Interesting theory. He was also interested in Willian (which Willy did not do much to deny). Both strike me as the archetypical José players. Matic has looked rather glum ever since that fateful 2015-16 season. Maybe he also felt the club lacked ambition? Conte managed to convince him to stay - perhaps with the promise of being able to leave this summer? Twitter going crazy? Are we back to quote ITKs on Twitter James? I remember when you spent a whole summer claiming Twitter to be a realiable source.

He's been an automatic starter in 2 title winning sides in 3 seasons and was named in the team of the year in 2014-15. Droy has been wrong on Matic on so many occassions I can't understand why people even engage with him on that anymore.
  4. Transfer Talk Topic

Sure - like I said. He's sufficient. But Fabregas may also be used more as a AM this season and in the impact sub role he played last season. Given that, Drinkwater will/may be our 3rd CM... I'm not comfortable with him starting a large portion of our PL/CL games. If we want to get back to being a top European team we have to do better. I supoose it all comes down to how much he'd set us back in terms of fee/salary. But given that he's; 1. English 2. Plays in the PL 3. Is reasonably established 4. Is a English international I suspect the fee/salary may be quite hefty...
  5. Transfer Talk Topic

Well if it is true I'd be slightly underwhelmed. Personally I think we should aim higher. But as a 4th CM I suppose he'd be sufficient. I am however looking for more than "sufficient". Re-building (as zaffo puts it) should mean we rebuild with quality players. Not players on the fringes of the English NT. Anyhow - thx for the source. Let's see how this one develops!
  6. Transfer Talk Topic

Huh? You've got a source for this?
  7. Transfer Talk Topic

This. Purely judged by his ability, selling him to a rival is bonkers. However, I accept there are probably other factors at play here (contract running down, unwillingness to sign a new one). Under those circumstances, we may not much choice and the £40m is not a bad fee.
  8. Transfer Talk Topic

Yep. Considering how tough a start we have to the league as well - we are running a serious risk of having a negative momentum from the start. We all saw how that negative momentum exploded in 2015-16 when the squad is minimal.

I agree - decision-making in terms of squad building is truly bizarre at times. Personally I think the club took the decision to have a small squad of top-level players giving youth a chance of filling the fringe positions. It may be a tactic that has worked (we've won 3 PL titles and one CL in the 11 seasons the small squad tactic has been implemented). We have also not spent that much (in terms of net spend) in that period - certainly not compared to City and basically in the same ball park as United. But lately the squad has been ridiculously small and let's be honest here - the only reason why we managed to win the PL last season was due to the fact we had so few games. Of course - much like Mourinho did between May 2015 to August 2015, Conte has been crying out for more top level players. We all know what happened to Mourinho. I really hope we won't see a repeat of what happened to him... Maybe Jose should have done the right thing and walked out (like Conte is rumoured to do if we don't strengthen) instead of staying put and being embarrassed.

I think the proper way to look at it is that Conte claimed that he had 13 trusted (outfield) players last season... I can only assume that was; Azpilicueta, Cahill, Luiz, Kante, Fabregas, Matic, Moses, Alonso, Hazard, Pedro, William, Costa, Bats That was his core squad. At this point in time, our core squad is; Azpilicueta, Cahill, Luiz, Rudiger, Christensen, Alonso, Moses, Kante, Fabregas, Bakayoko, Hazard, Pedro, Willian, Morata, Bats Thats 15 players. Note that the two player difference is two more CBs. We desperately need a CM a couple of WBs and an AM and a striker more. I know people will claim that we have another four weeks to add players, but this is some serious time to panic. The noises coming from Conte clearly indicates that he's worried. If all was dandy between him and the club, he wouldn't have to mention at any given opportunity that we desperately need players. He's certainly putting pressure on the club and so far we haven't really improved the squad. All in all I think we are weaker given that we have the same amount of attacking players and have only improved numbers in terms of CBs Conte sees fit for our system. Zouma and JT clearly not being trusted last term. We NEED 20 trusted outfield players to compete this season with added CL pressure. I have zero confidence of that happening. At most, I see another two players coming in. This will be yet another great example of how we blow our legs off due to board level incompetence. I may be hasty with that conclusion, but seriously, how can you see it any other way? We let players go early putting ourselves in an impossible situation to catch up in terms of bodies. Season starts in two weeks. It's incredible how we have managed to put ourselves in this situation again.

True. And also the French and Spanish. If I had to list the worst countries when it comes to speaking a foreign language my top five (in order) would be: the US, England, Spain, Italy, France. Granted this is based on my experience so may not be very scientific. No doubt. English is a fantastic language and a language I think everyone in the world should master. But just because it is so widely used doesn't mean that someone from a Latin country (Costa) is lazy because he can't master it after three years. Look at Kun Aguero. He's been here for ages and still barely speaks a word of English. It's just hard for some cultures... Great stuff Pete. Norwegian would not have been my pick so thanks for that lesson! In Scandinavia we always make fun of the Norwegians because of the jolly sound. I always say it's impossible to ever take a mad Norwegian seriously because he always sounds happy! Not the worst trait to have though! I don't want to be a bully, but those were probably the only languages you took at school? Still impressive that you had two foreign languages though! When I grew up we started with English in grade four (age 10) and another foreign language (mandatory) in grade 7 (age 13). Then I had another two in grade 10. I believe the kids in Sweden today start with English in grade one (age 7). Again, fantastic stuff Pete. Sorry Ham, I did have a pretty bad day today. Was travelling with my two year old son today (back to Stockholm from Nice) and it wasn't the best journey I've had in my life to put it mildly. So please excuse my very bad expression (hillbilly). In reality I love everything English and I consider it my third country after Sweden and Denmark. If I had to pick any other nationality than being Swedish it would absolutely be English:)

No idea what point you are trying to make. If you read some of the posts we exchanged on this topic, my previous post may make more sense. You argued that someone at the club valued Moses because he was given a contract extension and that someone somehow defied Mourinho. I claimed that was bs because we do that with all loanees. No one was ever wrong on Moses. He's still not good enough to be starting for us and I bet that if Conte gets his way he won't be starting for Chelsea in 2017-18.

Leicester would have zero chance of winning La Liga, Serie A or the Bundesliga. Zero. There's always a bad excuse for the ones who claim England is the best league. In reality, it really isn't. Unless we're talking about the ability to waste money on overrated players. Then their in a league of their own. I'll reiterate my previous point. ****ing Leicester won the PL. Leicester!!! Now try to make a serious claim the Premier League is the best league in the world with a straight face.
  14. Transfer Talk Topic

If anyone seriously thinks that; Schmeichel, De Laet, Drinkwater, Morgan, Huth, Vardy, King, Albrighton, Kante, Schlupp, Simpson, Okazaki, Gray, Ulloa, Dyer, Mahrez and Fuchs; are good enough to win the premier league but not any of the competitions you've listed they're certifiable.

Certainly a better strategy than Jose managed. Jose said we needed re-inforcments and got naught. Considering Conte has a history of walking out of a job may be a good thing here. Hmmm... Interesting considering the discussion we had on Victor Moses a few months back. Nice to see you've changed your mind though😜 The 15/16 season us no relevance whatsoever. Not even when European qualification was a pipe dream did Hiddink give youth a chance. By the way, I'm all in your corner when it comes to youth development. I speak 3 languages fluently and another 2 at a conversational level. Trust me, learning a different language is not a mean feat. Hearing an Englishman crying about it actually makes it hilarious. You lot are the second worst in the civilised world to speak a foreign language only beaten by your hillbilly cousins across the pond. Sorry, quoting function effed up. James: If Jody said that I'm worried. The club should act and look to replace him. He doesn't know what he's doing... Ham: when you have moved abroad and gained the ability to speak a foreign language you are able to have an opinion. Until then you're merely misinformed. Either you've got no clue what you're on about or Makelele is lying. Claude has never managed Bakayoko over a longer period of time. Quite. Thanks for staying the obvious. My base case scenario is that you're always pissed;) Hmm... Quite. They work for social media or the click-bait culture we have these days. Or Bale... Minimum salary in England is €100,000? I'm sorry but that is CLEARLY bs. Gurj: I hope you can forget me.

It is well documented that Drogba wanted to move back to Marseille throughout his first three seasons with us. He talked about it a lot and has been on record many times about it. Not very disimilar to what Costa has been doing to be perfectly honest.

Here we go again. I suggest you look at some of the stuff you write to me before throwing stones in glasshouses. This is the last time I'll state this, I treat you no differently to any other member on here. Maybe you should have a think about why you seem to think everything is about you? Now can we move on from this rubbish please and stop talking about you? Quite.

Not sure what point you are trying to make. Man U has money and they spend it. Just because they are spending doesn't mean that Jose likes high prices. It is possible to spend big (and have they really spent much more than us this summer? Talk about James being a hypocrite) and still have issues with how the transfer fees are rising. James was making a bs comment with absolutely no relevance whatsoever just to take another dig at our former manager. This is what setting me, Roman could easily call up a few mates back home in Russia and get fake sponsorship deals to burn. But he probably knows that if we did it UEFA would be out in force to stop the enemy of football. Corrupt clowns. Not a big fan of Bacca. But we could do worse. What Pete said. James is a grown man, no one is bulky in him. If he is so sensitive that he can't take people commenting on his posts, then he should stay away. This whole 'we need to protect James' thing is getting absolutely absurd.

Well maybe he just wants a move, a signing on and a higher salary? Also, it's not like he's moving to Crystal Palace. So I suppose there's a perfectly fine explanation to wanting a move. I just didn't take him for being that kind of player. Or as Paul states below: But then again he apparently wanted a move last summer (before Conte allegedly managed to make him stay). He also started 34/47 games last season. Strange way for Conte showing he's not in his plans... There's always that Ham! My lord. What is he supposed to do? He's at Man U, he needs to rebuild. He is a slave of the market. It's not like he's setting the prices is it? Your incessant and childish quest of criticising our greatest ever manager is tiresome to put it mildly. Because this is a football forum and the way a forum works, or any debate for that matter, is that someone states something and others comments on it. I just don't get why some people think that James should just be able to post and everyone must agree with him or not comment? If that's the case he can sit and write emails to himself. Didn't you spend the best part of two years claiming that Roman would pay this out of his own pocket? That you have ridiculed anyone stating that wasn't obvious just makes it a little bit more funny.

I'm sorry but no, just no. Matic was rumoured to leave even after last season. There's no real reason to why he'd leave as he's a first choice, on good money and winning titles. Its a strange one.
  21. Squad Status: 2020/21 Season

I hope you're right - I read it to be roughly 20 senior outfielders and three youngsters. For me that's the perfect squad size. But right now I'd be over the moon with 18 senior outfielders and a few youngsters. But it seems you've stated 24 - two XI's (22 players) plus GK3 and S3.

Disclaimer: Let me begin by stating that this post should not be seen as me bullying you or trying to make you silly. It's simply a reply to a post you made on a public Chelsea forum and it's not intended to cause you any harm or distress or make you feel any less welcome here. Now as we've gotten that out of the way, Michy Batshuayi (23) and Alvarao Morata (24) says hello. Now maybe we have a plan for Abraham, or maybe we just do what we always do. Loan them out until we feel they are good enough to be at least a serious second choice in their position. But even then, having them to stick around may be hard (Chalobah). I don't think we have any plan for Abraham than to 'wait and see if he steps up' when on loan.
  23. Well interestingly enough, apparently Conte has been out talking up Fabregas in a #10 role. I believe we will see 352 more this season and it would be very interesting to see Morata and Michy play together.
  24. Michy is definitely staking a claim. If he's not the second choice striker when the season starts we've made a mistake. And this time I mean a second choice striker that's trusted with serious minutes...

Sneijder is finished and has been for a good few years. Navas never was but Zlatan could definitely still do a lot for us. About zero chance of that happening though. I still curse we didn't sign him when Juve was degraded after Calciopoli. He'd have been a legend for us.
