Hah. I actually read that Conte was looking for a new CB this January (yes seriously). The list of players I've seen us linked to goes like: Alex Sandro, Lucas Moura (what?), Barkley, Frankie De Jong, some CB from Lille, Benteke and Butland. Next summer I expect at least Willian and Luiz to have left us. Most likely Courtois as well.
  2. Transfer Talk Topic

Yes let's buy a sixth version of what we already have. can't have enough CBs really and attacking players are overrated anyways.
  3. Following Chelsea's Loans

I suppose he's not viewed as a real Chelsea product. Does it have credibility? Well Christensen came here when he was 15 years and 10 months old. We have no problems producing 16 year old superstars by ourselves. It's getting them to take the step from being a superstar when measured against their peers; to competing against seasoned pros on their own merit. In that regard, Christensen is the one shining example of a player having taken the leap from the academy, through the 'development squad' and loan system all the way to a first XI position. And he's done it on merit all along the way. So I think it's unfair it's not being highlighted more. It's a massive success story.

I'm sorry but that last bit is a tad spuriois and has nothing to do with facts. He was player of the year in 2014-15. Maybe all the players in the league felt they had to protect Mourinho as well? Sounds likely. Not. 2014-15 is also the only season where Hazard has competed at the top, top level for a full year in a season which wasn't a one-off (last season only the league and FA Cup to play for). To keep that level of performance in 14/15 was a hell of a lot more of an achievement than to do it for 36 games in 16/17.
  5. Transfer Talk Topic

Errr no, just no. Bit hilarious to even suggest such a thing. Hazard 2014-15 was his best season to date. And no, it's not just my opinion.

At the moment, that is the best thing he can do. Play with as few attcking players as possible and have five and a half players for the front two (front three if we add attacking players later in the game) - Hazard, Morata, Pedro, Willian, Bats, Musonda Jr. Then we have four and a half players for the middle three. Kante, Bakayoko, Fabregas, Drinkwater and Ampadu. For the front five we have 9 players. Then we have Cahill, Luiz, Christensen, Rudiger, Azpilicueta, Moses, Zappcosta, Alonso and Kenedy for the CB and WB positions. That's also nine players for five positions. Unbalanced and severely lacking attacking numbers.

And that Bob, is the problem in a nutshell.
  8. Squad Status: 2019/2020 Season

Well I wouldn't write them off. PSG has laid down a marker with Neymar and Real being Real it sure has the looks of a pissing contest brewing. £200m for Hazard. Would we take it? Reluctantly I guess. What would that money buy us? Two Lukaku's? Err - no thanks. There is no value out there so there's no point selling Hazard. We should do everything we can to make him stay.
  9. Alvaro Morata Gone on loan

People on these very boards said the same.
  10. Alvaro Morata Gone on loan

To be fair, I think that he has displayed that on other occassions as well this season. Not as many as you'd like granted, but he has shown glimpses of what he can be. Of course the trick is, as Droy put it in the Man U MDF, to sustain this over the course of the season. I think he's had a very strong and inspired start to his Chelsea career. Will be interesting to see how he comes along. My brain tells me he will do well because of his high base level of football in him - intelligence, movement, technique, aerial play, hold-up and link-up play. Even if he goes through a dry spell, I think his partnership with Fabregas, Hazard and possibly Pedro/Willian has much to offer besides him ending moves with goals.
  11. Alvaro Morata Gone on loan

He's movement and aerial play is very Crespo-like but he also (gulp!) reminds me of a Torres (at his peak).
  12. Alvaro Morata Gone on loan

Top post Sam. I was absolutely delighted we bought Morata (my first choice by a country mile) and so far he's delivered way above my expectations. I simply do not recognise any of the critisism that's directed towards him. Bad hold up play? Bad link-up play? Inconsistent? Not able to lead the line by himself? All comments that are wide off the mark if you ask me. Better hold up and link-up play than Costa (yes, seriously), better technique than any striker we've had since Zola, better in the air compared to anything we've had lately apart from Drogba and Crespo (same level imo) and fantastic with the ball at his feet. I think he'll be super star. This.

Where we already have Kenedy that fulfills that role. Is Da Silva better? 24 apps in League One. I think not.
  14. Transfer Talk Topic

Jay Da Silva? He plays league one football this season. I doubt he's ready to step up next season.
  15. Transfer Talk Topic

I can see where you are coming from and I'd tend to agree I'd rather see us spend less for a younger up-and-coming talent that's just the level below before being established. Whether that's Sessegnon or someone else I don't know.
  16. Transfer Talk Topic

    Quite.
  17. Transfer Talk Topic

I'm sorry but it's ridiculous to lambast the board or the manager at the time for selling a player who quite clearly wasn't up for it in any shape, way or form. Would I swap Salah for any of our AMs? Yes - Musonda (if you count him). At the time, he was quite clearly at the bottom of the list of our AMs and for good reason. He plays for a side that plays to his strengths. The question you should ask yourself is wether we should sink so low and build our attacking play around a player like Salah who took 3 seasons to get to this standard. It's Liverpool ffs. You think any Chelsea manager can play a player for three years before he comes good? The obvious answer is no.
  18. Alvaro Morata Gone on loan

Good point. Might also be worth noting that Torres had clocked up 386 appearances for Liverpool and Atletico before we signed him (most of them starts). Morata stood at 188 appearances for Real and Juve (most as a sub I'd imagine). Torres had played regularly from the age of 18 and had suffered some playing-style altering injuries before we decided to splash £50m on him in 2011. Morata hasn't suffered career-changing injuries, hasn't been playing a lot of football and cost us £58m + add-ons in 2017. In terms of football age and true price they're miles apart. Not to mention this... how long did it take Torres to score 6 PL games for us? One year and three months is the answer. Morata did that in just over a month.
  19. Alvaro Morata Gone on loan

Quite. If Morata has been woeful, then what has the rest of them been? Dead?
  20. Following Chelsea's Loans

I updated that list. you've said that we need more players and players that aren't stars. You've missed out on a lot of names who already play serious squad roles for teams that are better than us. Some are even automatic starters for teams better than us and quite clearly much better than our current players in that position.
  21. Alvaro Morata Gone on loan

Well to be fair, we also had Khalid Bhoulahrouz. He gave a new face to "can't defend even if his life depended on it". I've been highly critical of Lukaku as well. But his ability to score against inferior opposition can't be questioned.
  22. Alvaro Morata Gone on loan

Well it's certainly how we defend our title. 2006-07 (we had massive investments leading up to that season but entered the season with only two CBs- JT and Ricky), 2010-11, 2015-16 and 2017-18.
  23. Alvaro Morata Gone on loan

They've all been awful. Even the Bournemouth game was sub-par.
  24. Alvaro Morata Gone on loan

I'm sure United fans are also happy to see the 1-1 games of last season against mid- to lower placed teams has transformed to clear wins due to Lukaku's goals.
  25. Media / Press

That much was obvious given how easy Conte had it last season. This is how they operate. This is what they did to Jose twice and it's also something I think Conte tried to say in his last presser as well. That he had seen the media do this to other managers before him.
