  1. Josh Mc Eachran

McEachran to start in the FA Youth Cup game at the Bridge on Thursday. Confirmed on chelseafc.com. Kick off at 7pm and tickets at a mere £3. £3 to watch McEachran play? Too good to turn down.
  2. Josh Mc Eachran

Did I not make that clear? His movement off the ball is excellent. However, defensively he can only get better.
  3. Josh Mc Eachran

Yes, I do agree with this. He is a joy to watch but I still want him higher up the pitch away from that Pirloesque DM playmaker role. He is wasted in that DM role even though it suits his ball skills now to come on for 10-35 minutes controlling the tempo from deep midfield with his passing. Against Everton in the cup I'd love for him to start in a LCM or RCM role with Mikel at DM (if he has recovered form his injury). If Mikel is still injured I'd like to see Josh in the DM position ahead of Essien who - despite a lot of fans claiming differently - is not a DM player by any stretch of the imagination. He is lacking the discipline in his tackling and is lacking that natural ball control and passing that Mikel and Josh has in that position to keep the game flowing. Let Essien run up and down the field in his RCM position shooting, tackling and harrassing opponents (much like Ramires have done in that position lately) and let the ball players do the ball playing. For next season I do hope we'll sign a proper back-up DM for Mikel and use McEachran, Essien, Ramires, Lampard, Benayoun and Zhirkov in those LCM and RCM positions.
  4. Josh Mc Eachran

Yes, he came on with 10 mins to go being 2-0 up. Yes, the pressure he had on himself wasn't the greatest. Yes, it is much easier to look good coming on in a situation like that. However, nothing I have seen of Josh McEachran suggests that he would be any worse with the ball than any of the other midfielders at the club when the pressure is on. So I do think it is too much of an easy way out to say it's just because he comes on when the pressure is off that he has performed. Anyhow, what impressed me most was his movement off the ball against Blackburn. Yes, he may have had a lot of space - but he also created a lot of space for himself due to his movement off the ball. At least that's what stuck out for me when I saw him on Saturday. He is coming along nicely and haven't looked out of his depth on many occassions, even though there has been the odd mistake here and there. Overall though he has looked very polished and good on the ball. Defensively he can only get better and he needs a few extra pounds on his frame. But from what I've seen off him so far, and I think that may be more than many others, I would be surprised if he did not become a very competent Premier League player.
  5. Josh Mc Eachran

I'm not saying you are wrong on Josh. I agree that his passing is amazing. I've been saying that all along. But I don't like him in a Pirlo DM role. He should be playing higher up than that just because his passing is so amazing it would be wasted at the base when we have someone like Mikel. His job is to win the ball with power and be able to control it (which he is amazing at) and give iot to someone who can provide the magic (Lampard/McEachran/Malouda/Anelka). I think you are wide off the mark on Mikel. Redondo was nothing like a Mikel type DM. He was much more fluent going forward but would not stand a chance when it comes to physique. But since we both seem to agree on Josh and his amazing potential - let's just agree to disagree on Mikel.
  6. Chelsea Reserve & Youth Team

Wonderful. Will definitely go see the Arsenal game at the Bridge. Well done to the boys!
  7. Non Chelsea: Premier League

King Kenny who? I knew I could trust Clarkey to do his best to send another of our old competitors down. Great cause for celebration. I think I'll go pour myself a drink. EDIT: Too bad the Carling Cup Semis are decided over two legs. Perhaps not such a shoddy result on Sunday after all eh?
  8. Chelsea Reserve & Youth Team

I think that is a very fair assessment of him. But just out of interest, would you be prepared to offer him anything but a short term contract considering what he has showed us at this level?
  9. Chelsea Reserve & Youth Team

Very fair points. Especially the one about playing upfront with a partner. If there is one aspect of his game that always stood out for me then it had to be his movement off the ball. So with a partner those runs could be invaluable. Borini, Studge and Kakuta/Kalou in a fluid threesome (haha) could have been quite interesting to see against lower league opposition in a cup game.
  10. Josh Mc Eachran

I think you are wide off the mark on Mikel. Up until a month ago he was one of the clubs top performers this season. Most acknowledge his clear improvement from last season - which was no shame for him either. Which most likely is the correct answer. That being said, I do not think he ever had it in him to succeed as an AM, or no 10 if you like, at this level. Can't shoot to save his life, not a good crosser and is not known for his killer passes. What he does have is inredible strength, best in the prem at shielding the ball and plays short simple passes to keep the flow of the game. When he plays well we are very, very difficult to beat. I agree. I guess it's a matter of taste but I prefer a Mikel type player in that role ahead of someone like McEachran (regardless of how good of a passer he really is). Especially in the prem when there are important defensive duties to take are of when we play the likes of Stoke, Bolton or Blackburn. I think a Pirlo type playmaker is a better option in Spain or Italy. Mikel must be the best player technically and when looking at his passing for someone his size. He's the closest thing you'll ever get to a Pirlo of that size and strength. Please. Mikel has clearly been the better player of the two this season. Not sure whether you are being sarcastic here but the first time I saw Chalobah with the reserves I was shocked to find out he was only 15. Remarkable. Still a very long way to go for him but he is showing great promise. A la Pirlo - correct. That's why such a limited player as Gattuso was an automatic starter for Milan for so long. He did all the dirty work. I think there are very clear signs of a similar development at Chelsea in terms of the type of players we are being linked to and and also the ones we have signed. Very good post. Thank you for posting this! I had probably seen McEachran live 7-10 times before he made his proper first team debut in a competitive match and I do agree with much of this. You may have seen him much more and hence, may have a more complete picture of him, but I always felt that his dribbling and killer passes stood out - especially in the FA Youth Cup team. Now, you may be right that he is too slow for the wing - I can't really see him succeed there at all - but as an attacking midfielder I feel you may have written him off too soon. His strengths is his ball control, dribbling (also keeping the ball under pressure) and his passing. He is not the fastest player but there is no doubt he has skills to play as an attacking midfielder. In the end I think you may be right. He may be, due to lack of better comparisons, more of an Xavi than an Iniesta. Can't really see him becoming a goal scoring midfielder, but rather a midfielder who is controlling the game from midfield and also having a high number of assists. Which is why it is insane to think back to what Fabregas was capable of even at 18-19. What a talent he was at that age! Just out of interest, is it Swift you are referring to? I saw the U-16 team once last season (when the U-18's played Cardiff at Cobham) and they looked very good for their age. I've since heard fro many of Juni's excellent updates that that team is quite promising. Is it Swift, Stenning, Mitchell, Chalobah (even though he progressed all the way to the reserves already) and Gueho who are the stars of that age group?
  11. Chelsea Reserve & Youth Team

I think it was after the third or fourth time I've seen him play I said he didn't have what it takes to make it at a club like Chelsea. Decent prospect but as an attacker he doesn't have blistering pace, he isn't particularly technical and he isn't a good finisher either. He is decent enough allround but lacks the edge that it takes to be a top player. Some attribute that he is exceptional at - he has none of that. After having seen him with the first team the few times he got a chance with the first team only cemented my initial reaction. There is a reason the Parmas of this world is the sort of clubs alledgedly wanting to sign him - if he manages to break in to their first eleven he has done exceptionally well given his potential and current ability imho. Of course I could be wrong but I am not surprised one bit that Chelsea is looking to offload him. I'd have done the same. Well, thats my thoughts on the subject anyways.
  12. Chelsea Reserve & Youth Team

Not sure I'm ready to agree with you here. He's not really great at anything. He's got no edge whatsoever and I've never been that impressed with him - either at first team or reserve level.
  13. Josh Mc Eachran

Ok, this is a big misunderstanding. I can see the value in him getting game time in the DM position. His range of passing is excellent and obviously in that role he is seeing a lot of the ball which can only improve his decision making and experience at this level. But as a future role I can never see him being a fully viable alternative to Mikel in the DM position. I'm not saying the club is moulding him into the next DM a la Pirlo but if we are I think that is the wrong move cause we'd lose his fantastic ability in the final third. Yep, can't disagree here. What Mikel has going for him is power, size and fantastic passing ability. He was made for a modern DM player.
  14. Josh Mc Eachran

With all due respect, there is no way you can even have the faintest idea whether that is true or not. Yes he is only 17 but what does that have to do with anything? Like I said, I can see both sides of the argument and if it is for game time and valuable experience he is playing at DM then fine. But if Carlo sees a future for him in that position I disagree. No reason to start swearing.
  15. Josh Mc Eachran

Well, I can see the argument from both sides. If he is playing at DM because that is where he can get most game time at the moment I'm ok with that. But having seen him in a LCM ar even AM role for the youths and reserves I know what he can do in those positions and can't for the life of me understand why someone would want to change his style. It would be insanity to change his position to DM just because Carlo likes ball playing players in that position with a good range of passing (read Mikel, Pirlo and now JMcE). I just hope that the club and Carlo realises what a gem they have on their hands and that they won't ruin his natural attacking abilities.
  16. Josh Mc Eachran

Had McEachran come through in the mid to the end of the 90's he'd be a first team player by merit right now playing games because he deserves it. Sending him ut on loan could prove to be the worst decision ever. Based on his performances I think he deserves a PL start very very soon. I've never been so excited by any Chelsea prospect ever and I have followed the youth and reserve teams since the late 90's. This kid is special - very special and we've seen nothing like him at Chelsea as long as I remember.
  17. OFFICIAL - David Luiz Joins PSG.

I can only agree. £34m for a young unproven central defender from the Portugese league is madness. He has only been an automatic first choice at Benfica for one and a half season and has only 4 caps for Brazil. I mean, based on what he has achieved the lad should be going for £10-15m max. What says he'll be any better than a Cahill or Lescott, or even Bruma in a few seasons? £34m is a massive gamble and I am 100% confident we'll never sign him for anything like those sums being quoted. Now, I haven't seen him extensively so obvious I may have missed the reasons for the hype. If that's the case please feel free to correct me.
  18. Gael Kakuta

If Kakuta leaves on loan for the rest of the season clearly we will need to sign an attacking player asap? As for him going on loan - don't really see the point to be honest. He doesn't come across as a player who adapts to new surroundings very quickly. Why farm him out to some kick n rush team at the bottom of the prem or the Championship? Waste of time and we've sent too many talents down that route over the last 5 seasons to little or no gain. Mancienne has basically gone backwards. Same thing happened to Sinclair. Loan move abroad? Well, not sure that's best for him. Another interesting way to view loan moves. How many homegrown players have succeeded at their club when sent out on loan for a season or more? Beckham, Terry etc all just had a couple of months away on loan before making the squad at their respective clubs.
  19. Frank Arnesen

Well, the reason for that could perhaps be because no one knows what you are trying to insinuate with that comment? Care to expand on that for us mere mortals who doesn't have an "inside source who works closely with Roman" to consult in matters like these?
  20. Frank Arnesen

Not only that, I do not understand why we would be interested in Begiristain in the first place? In Begiristains three last seasons as sporting director at Barcelona (the 6 transfer windows in 07/08, 08/09 and 09/10) Barcelona spent EUR 275m on transfer fees. EUR 275m! That is extraordinary because we are not talking about a Chelsea or a Man C who were trying to play catch up - we are talking about a team that had won the Champions League in 2005/06. What exactly would he bring to the table at Chelsea? Bringing in even further expensive flops like he did at Barcelona season after season? His only strength seem to be to spend as much money as possible for no real reason at all. With our recent spending policy I cannot see what he would add to the club whatsoever.
  21. Chelsea Reserve & Youth Team

Woods on loan to Notts C until January 9. Whatever happened to him? Had a couple of sub appearances under Mourinho at the age of 16 but injuries hampered his development. Is his shot at the big time definitely gone?
  22. Chelsea Reserve & Youth Team

Hm, well last years FAYC team was very strong and solid. Don't get that vibe at all from this years team. Last year for JMcE at this level right? Next seaosn he will be 3 months too old to play in this competition right? Have a strange feeling that next years FAYC team will be much stronger than this seasons, would you agree?
  23. Chelsea Reserve & Youth Team

I was wondering what our best potential line-up would be in the FA youth cup? Will B Clifford play at RB or will he be used in midfield? Juni or someone else, feel free to fill in the gaps. ------------Blackman --RB?---Pappoe--Ince---Deen-Conteh -----------Chalobah -----B.Clifford-McEachran -Lalkovic-----ST?------------LW?- I think the team looks quite weak to be honest. Back four looks solid, and midfield as well if both JMcE and Chalobah plays. But up front we look very very thin. Kane or Sampayo likely to battle it out for RB but who will be at LW and ST? Devyne? Who else?
  24. Gael Kakuta

You may be a tad harsch on the lad but in essence I agree. Massive disappointment so far this season and overrated as it stands right now. Long way to go before he's even close to Chelsea standard.
  25. Chelsea Reserve & Youth Team

Very interesting. Where will you post that article?
