  1. Following Chelsea's Loans

Loftus-Cheek misses out completely and is not listed as injured. If he isn't going to get minutes I hope we have a call-back option in place. As for Abraham, Bony will probably offer some serious competition for the starting position as the season progresses. Will be interesting to see how he reacts to that.

I'd have taken £20m to get this story to go away.
  3. Following Chelsea's Loans

^Thats a real shame. I wonder what will happen to RLC now that de Boer is gone?
  4. Transfer Talk Topic

The alternative explanation (that you are trying to explain) is downright scary. It would mean the club actively knew the squad size could/would be this bad and that they were fine with it. If that's the case, the calls for incompetence has even more credibility.

It certainly seems quite a lot of our business was not concluded by April though. I don't think that deals are closed that soon. Some are yes. But I think that's more of an exception to the normal rule. I reckon most deals are concluded during the window itself.
  6. Squad Status: 2019/2020 Season

Never rotating? Never rotating was last season. That was litterally "never rotating" and pales in comparison to how Jose used his squad. Not saying we couldn't have rotate more under Jose, but I think it's slightly bizarre to claim he never rotated when the current incumbent is a lot worse. Jose always rotated but of course played his best team more often than not. However, that is hardly something that is out of the ordinary.
  7. Squad Status: 2019/2020 Season

I think we can feel a little bit more certain in who's driving the small squad issue at our club. It certainly wasn't Mourinho (given the squad size he's had with other clubs and now Man U).
  8. Media / Press

I think that's a bit exaggerated. After all, we did win the Premier League (although with 6 less games in the first half). We do have enough to challenge for the league but I don't think we should expect an all-out assault in four fronts. For that we are still 4-5 short (squad of 22 senior outfielders). 1. I do t think the argument should be that we needed to buy more, the easiest part should have been to convince a few more to stay. No arguments that we haven't brought in quality players - we absolutely have. 2. That's where I stand as well - make do until January and try to add a player or two there. But there is 6 CL games - not 5.

I sadly agree with you regarding Kenedy and Musonda. I just hope that Conte and the board knows something about him we don't. Unless we seriously think he can step up and be a serious squad option then one has to ask oneself what we're doing entering a season with only three AMs when we in reality could have used at least four in the starting XI + bench every single game this season. Right now, we can only present two attacking bench options when all the attacking players are injury free. I'm sorry but I'm stunned some seem to think that three AMs is enough for a season. Optimally we'd have five. Especially since we only have two strikers. I think we may be forced to play 352 a lot more than what we may have wished for. As for Baba, I think he's off on loan. Hence not being added in any of the squads. Regarding Ox, if that story is true then well done Antonio. As for Barkley, it sounds too incredible to be true. To be fair, they do play with three CMs with the following in contention; Henderson, Wijnaldum, Can, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Milner, Grujic with Lallana as further cover. The front three options are; Coutinho, Firmino, Salah, Mane, Sturridge, Lallana, Oxlade-Chamberlain with Milner and Wijnaldum as added cover. I think the pool they have for their front six positions is quite good, although their best players aren't as good as our best. But 12 quality options for 6, with a few younger options as the potential is not to be sniffed at. I reckon Liverpool is at that place where they need perhaps to add one top class player in defence, midfield and attack to perhaps have the best squad in the league. Klopp is building something interesting I think. They have deeper cover this season so maybe fatigue won't be as big of an issue? Still need to work on that defense though.... If Liverpool sees the Ox as a serious option for the two number 8's or one of the wide attacker roles he'll see plenty of game time imo. I don't think he'll play RB much though considering they have Clyne, Gomez, Flannagan and Alexander-Arnold as RB options. As long as they keep to the 433 I think he'll be considered a front six option.
  10. Squad Status: 2019/2020 Season

I find it hard to believe that someone would intentionally decimate our squad in two out of three seasons and still be in a job. More likely to be an 'intentional due to necessity' kind of situation if you ask me.

I agree - no point in trying to find an individual to blame. At the end of the day it's not interesting, only that what has caused it is rectified asap. I do not share your take on what happens next though. Of course, taking into account all probabilities there is, in my view, an outside chance of a 2015-16 repeat. But it wasn't squad size alone that caused it. It was a contributing factor, or perhaps better explained, the said was not as full of quality as we may have initially thought. Yes we had/have a very strong core group of players. But the quality outside them was miscalculated in 15/16 imo. There Mourinho must share some blame (just to be clear on that). We also had a spectacularly badly planned pre-season that year and an even worse end of season tour after being crowned champions. Then, like now, we kept things late in terms of transfers. But we also had Mourinho's father being critically ill, and that will almost certainly have compounded Jose's somewhat erratic behaviour at times. Squad size is an issue this season. No doubt about it. I demonstrated earlier, together with Juni's post, that we lack numbers compared to all our main competitors in England and Europe bar City when it comes to usable squad players. And then City has 18 quality players. At a stretch we've got 16. However... I tend to think that the likeliest scenario is; we keep ourselves within touching distance to the leading pack until January with a stable second place finish in the CL group. Last season we had Azpilicueta, Cahill, Luiz, Moses, Alonso, Kante, Matic, Fabregas, Hazard, Pedro, Willian, Costa and to a certain degree Zouma, Ake, Chalobah as some sort of option at some stage of the season (not counting the first 5-6 games). This season that list should read as Azpilicueta, Cahill, Luiz, Rudiger, Christensen, Moses, Alonso, Zappacosta, Kante, Bakayoko, Fabregas, Drinkwater, Willian, Hazard, Pedro, Morata, Batshuayi. 17 vs 12, 12.5. That's five more usable players (although two are CBs). That might be enough to carry us until January. But it is very, very light indeed. Had we not gotten that number to 17, but remained on 15, then I'd have shared your worst case scenario as the likeliest outcome. Add two more in January and that number is 19 (minus long-term injuries) for the second half of the season. It's not as bad as I thought. I think we can make a long list of players we, based on their quality, could potentially have kept. In no order of preference; Matic, Solanke, Atsu, Cuadrado, Traore, Ake, Chalobah, Remy, Pasalic, Abraham, Palmer, Aina, Loftus-Cheek, Piazon, Van Ginkel, Zouma, Brown, Kalas, Baker, and Boga to name most (I think). I can't see how we didn't find 2-3 of that lot being able to fill a squad role.
  12. Transfer Talk Topic

I assume you agree with me that the **** up was to let too many of the usable players go, and not that we didn't buy enough (6 new players is quite substantial I'd have thought). But a **** up nonetheless - yes.

That's just media-fabricated bullshit. 1. It's the Daily Star 2. The media story all summer has been that Conte isn't happy 3. That's the first question he'll get during the Leicester presser and his reply will be "I'm happy with the squad and ready to work with these players". 4. To keep this story to run further, the media will need to find a senior figure who won't talk to the media - step forward Roman A. 5. This way, they have the "Chelsea crisis" narrative done for the season. Edit: to clarify, it wasn't the strategy to bring in players that backfired, it was that we sold/released too many players. For us to bring in 8+ players or to have a net spend of £150m was never going to happen (despite your insistence we would). The £80m net spend we had this summer isn't on par with Man C or Man U, but it's on par with City's 10 year average and £50m more than our 10 year average.
  14. Media / Press

Yeah there's nothing wrong with the players we did sign. More a case of we could have used another 2-3. I saw a quite somewhere (probably from Matt Law) stating that Conte wanted 8 but only got 6. It would have been a big difference between 17 (+Kenedy) or 19 without the need for Kenedy.
  15. Transfer Talk Topic

I think we are three good quality players away from a really good squad. Exactly in the positions you mentioned.

Not sure where Emenalo is. The coach I believe was on a small vacation.

    1. Thanks. Another way to look at it is; Arsenal(24): Debuchy, Mertesacker, Holding, Mustafi, Coquelin, Elneny, Walcott, Lacazette, Giroud, Chambers, Wilshere, Cazorla, Iwobi, Akpom Liverpool (23): Alexander-Arnold, Klavan, Robertson, Milner, Can, Grujic, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Sturridge, Lallana, Clyne, Flanagan, Markovic, Ings Man C (18): Danilo, Mangala, Otamendi, Delph, Toure, Gundogan, Sane, Jesus Man U (22): Darmian, Lindelöf, Rojo, Shaw, Herrera, Fellaini, Lingard, Zlatan, Martial, Smalling, Carrick, Young Tottenham (21): Trippier, Sanchez, Foyth, Davies, Wanyama, Winks, Lamela, Sissoko, N'Koudou, Llorente, Janssen Chelsea (18): Rudiger, Christensen, Zappacosta, Drinkwater, Fabregas, Batshuayi, Willian, Kenedy City probably has the highest average quality/player, but seriously lack depth as well. Although their 12-18 outfielders are stronger than ours (just). Really surprised to see this, didn't realise they were so weak. United looking really strong. As does Arsenal and Liverpool. One is dragged down by the negative energy surrounding their manager, the other strongly on the up. If I was asked to predict how the league would end up between the top six judging by their squads and managers, I'd say; 1. Man U 2. Liverpool 3. Tottenham 4. Man C 5. Chelsea 6. Arsenal (solely due to Wenger) 2. Yes, and yes.
  18. Transfer Talk Topic

Yes that is a huge worry. Pedro, Hazard, Willian, Morata and Bats will have to be involved every game, either as a starter or as a very likely sub. We better hope Musonda is seen as a proper squad option and that he miraculously will have a massive break-out season. My gosh. That hits the spot. Couldn't have said it any better myself. You could do the same for the top six. Arsenal: Ospina, Debuchy, Mertesacker, Holding, Mustafi, LWB, Coquelin, Elneny, Walcott, Lacazette, Giroud Players 23-31: Chambers, Wilshere, Reine-Adelaide, Cazorla, Maitland-Niles, Iwobi, Akpom, Nelson Liverpool: Karius, Alexander-Arnold, Klavan, CB, Robertson, Milner, Can, Grujic, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Sturridge, Lallana Players 23-30: Clyne, Flanagan, Ejaria, Markovic, Wilson, Solanke, Woodburn, Ings Man C: Bravo, Danilo, Mangala, Otamendi, LB, Delph, Toure, Gundogan, Sane, Jesus, Zinchenko Players 23-25: Adarabioyo, Foden, Diaz Man U: Romero, Darmian, Lindelöf, Rojo, Shaw, Herrera, Fellaini, Lingard, Zlatan, Martial Players 23-26: Tuanzebe, Smalling, Carrick, Young Tottenham: Vorm, Trippier, Sanchez, Foyth, Davies, Wanyama, Winks, Lamela, Sissoko, N'Koudou, Llorente Players 23-24: Walker-Peters, Janssen Chelsea: Caballero, Rudiger, Christensen, Clarke-Salter, Zappacosta, Drinkwater, Fabregas, Kenedy, Musonda Jr., Batshuayi, Willian Basically what Juni says below. It's not about buying players and plant them in the bench. Conte's supposed to use the players. A LWB, AM and another S and we would have been home.

Why is it that as soon as someone who sees themselves as a bit of an expert and disagrees with someone the FIFA/FM comparisons comes out? I'm 37 and haven't played either in a good 15 years. I agree with Dingus - we've messed up this window and the squad size. What are you supposed to ridicule me with? Interesting perspective. There is certainly a case to be made that Conte is somewhat to blame at least. Jose used to get absolutely hammered for having his favourites. Conte has taken that to a new whole level unfortunately. You are being ridiculous and you know it.

Am I missing something here? Don't we have Aina on loan at Hull already? isn't there a limit of one player?
  21. Transfer Talk Topic

So, best case squad right now is: Courtois, Caballero, Eduardo Azpilicueta, Luiz, Cahill, Rudiger, Christensen Moses, Zappacosta, Alonso Kante, Bakayoko, Fabregas, Drinkwater Hazard, Pedro, Willian Morata, Bats 17 seniors for 10 starting positions and 6 subs for potentially 60 games... The ****.
  22. Transfer Talk Topic

What are you saying? Conte demanded all those youngsters to be sent out on loan? Not a big change of strategy to be perfectly honest.
  23. Transfer Talk Topic

Cech, Turnbull, Hilario Ivanovic, Bosingwa, Ferreira, Belletti, Terry, Carvalho, Alex, Cole Essien, Lampard, Ballack, Deco, Mikel, Zhirkov Cole, Malouda, Anelka, Kalou Drogba, Shevchenko, Sturridge No comparison. U-21's as fillers? Matic, Hutchinson, Bruma, Kakuta, Borini, Van Aanholt

What have I been saying all summer? We've had an average net spend of £30m over the last ten seasons. It was clear we wouldn't go on and end up having a net spend of £150m all of a sudden. We needed it, but we've needed it before as well.

Little over four hours to go. Gone awfully quiet hasn't it?
