He wouldn't have been here even if he stayed. Had he signed a new contract he'd be sent out on loan.

Because we barely had a squad. There were games where we easily could have played Chalobah in order to further his development and to make sure he saw a future here. Instead we didn't play him and offered him yet another pointless loan this summer. We basically did the complete opposite of what you should do with a young player who is good enough to play a serious role.
  3. Transfer Talk Topic

Sure. This England side is worse compared to that golden generation. But I don't think you can talk about Chalobahs minutes. He's a massive, massive talent and at U-21 level an absolute beast. That he didn't play more last season is an utter joke and one of the sad thing about last season. I know senior management for the Swedish U-21 team and they have played the England u-21's on a number of occasions and were always extremely aware of Chalobah and Loftus-Cheek. The view was that they were head and shoulders the best players for England.

I think it says more about our ability to integrate youngsters from the academy who CLEARLY are good enough to play a serious role for us. Bertrand another England national who suffered a similar fate. Loftus-Cheek and Abraham probably two others who'll go down the same route. Not to mention Solanke.

Imagine that we sold an England midfielder for £5m... Chalobah included in the England squad.

    Spot on.

I'm sorry but Mahrez isn't better than Willian. That is an outrageous claim to be honest. It should never be Mahrez or Willian. It should be Mahrez AND Willian.
  8. Transfer Talk Topic

In this market, what would £80-90m get you? Nothing remarkable is what you could get. We won't do better than Willian for that amount of money imo.

There's only one 'senior' player we can allow ourselves to leave but only if we replace him with a better player - Batsuayhi. Every single player other than him is virtually untouchable. We sell Willian we need two AMs instead of the one. We sell a CM the repurcussions are the same - we need two CMs instead of just the one. The same goes at WB. But if we sell Bats and replace him with Belotti (as an example) then we are fine as Hazard can play as a false 9 in times of dire need.

This. It's inexcusable and I'm quite frankly sick and tired of some members on here whinging about being tired of the critisism of the club. That was the tune back in May and it's still the tune days before the window shuts. We are days from entering a season with CL football again and defending champions with a squad consisting of 15 senior players where there are question marks over some of them.

Morata himself is on record stating that everyone knew Real would exercise the option basically throughout his second season at Juve and that it was difficult in that period as he didn't know what the future held for him - would Real keep him or look to sell him on at a nice profit... Doesnt take too much imagination to consider what that realisation may have meant in potential playing time at Juve once it was known.

Women football is the same. Heavily skewed towards lesbians. One theory goes that the females who are lesbians have a greater incentive to stay in the sport through the teenage years as they are surrounded by like-minded females. While a lot of the straight females decide to give the sport up. I can't say whether that is true or not, but for the Swedish NT the vast majority are openly lesbian. That's a fact.

9 days to go... Tick tock.

To be fair, that has always been his strength from his youth years. I suppose it just took him a bit longer than expected to be able to transfer that to the big leagues. He's extremely talented. That was never in doubt. The doubt was whether he could transfer his talents to this level. Time will tell but I sure hope he does. It's not a bad comparison actually. They do remind a lot of each other. Same style of running with the ball and similar build. I definitely think RLC can become a dynamic CM.

Ah, good spot there Pete. Very funny! If we spunk £50m on VVD I will go absolutely mental. 1. He's not a very good defender. 2. We don't need another obstacle for Christensen 3. Let's spend that £50m on a top talent AM 4. We have Rudiger 5. A 6th defender does sweet FA for the depth of our squad I think RLC will have a considerably higher stock compared to Barkley once this season is over. I think RLC should be allowed a full season at Palace bar something obvious, such as him being a viable first pick in January type scenario. 1. I think you're being far too harsh on Alonso there. I don't think Alonso is weak, just a touch low in the pace. But I find him to be a very balanced and all-round type of player that's also strong in the air. I really like him. Azpi has also played as a LB for a title winning side... 2. Well we had both and found it fit to dispose of both of them without really replacing adequately. Perhaps Luiz could provide a very good solution to two issues really. Tactical agility and another CM option when we opt to play three CMs. I'm thinking a sort of 2-3-2-2-1/4-3-2-1 type formation where Luiz is the DM and flanked by Bakayoko and Kante or Fabregas. ----------------Courtois ---------Christensen-Cahill Azpilicueta-----Luiz-----Alonso -----------Kante-----Bakayoko -----Willian------------Hazard ----------------Morata The balance could also be altered with by swapping Azpi to CB and moving Moses to RWB. Perhaps a viable strategy for some home games we are expected to dominate. 3. Yep - we definitely need a striker. I'd say viable competition/complement to Morata. 1.1 Again, think you are harsh on Alonso. He was immense last season and has started pretty well so far hasn't he? 2.1 I hope you mean replacing in the starting XI and not the squad. He's made an extremely exciting start that's for sure. A season with games at CM and AM will do him a lot of good. I do think his best position may be as a CM long-term. I really hope he'll prove to be a success story. Oh absolutely. But he'd also dramatically improve a match day squad that includes Hazard and Pedro. I really hope Loftus-Cheek won't be yet another one we sell on for peanuts. The start has been extremely encouraging for him but I do think Gullit may do him a disservice by talking him up too much too soon. Let him get on with it and see how he does by December. I think you may miss the point. Mahrez massively improves our squad. He's a great player and even though he may not be an automatic starter he'll be a core 16 squad member. We need more players of his quality and then spice it up with a few real cherries.

Wow. So this is what desperation looks like huh? Shelvey and Andy Carroll... 😂😂😂
  17. Following Chelsea's Loans

Well he was the only Palace player who looked like he could have started for Liverpool. He was heads and shoulders their best player. By some distance.

Both RLC and Chalobah having great games for their respective clubs. Meanwhile we've got one available central midfielder for one of the toughest games of the season.

With the start Oxlade-Chamberlain has had so far, I can't see any scenario where Arsene Wenger sees a benefit of selling. 11 days to go now. I'm watching this unfold (well, nothing is actually happening, but you know what I mean) with a sense of bewilderment of what's going on. I seriously think that unless we see a good few players arriving in this timeframe we're in for a really ugly season.
  20. Transfer Talk Topic

Absolutely this. Especially the first part. MThat's Salah was and remains talented is not up for discussion. It's the application of that talent that was missing. Confidence means the world in football, and once you have it you just execute every part of your game just a little bit better. It all adds up and before you know it you're in the zone. Plus he'll fit their style of play very well. As he would have done here under Conte. I wish him luck, he's a good guy and I'm happy he's starting to realise his potential. Well done Mo.
  21. Transfer Talk Topic

Oh perhaps I just didn't understand the analogy then! We seem to agree:) Well I certainly hope you'll be less wrong then me! But please let you be wrong as the club surprises us all on deadline day with five new players lined up next to a grinning Conte.
  22. Transfer Talk Topic

I'd say we need more than four in reality. GK: Courtois, Caballero, Eduardo DF: Azpilcueta, Christensen, Luiz, Rudiger, Cahill WB: Alonso, Moses, New RWB, New LWB CM: Kante, Bakayoko, Fabregas, New CM AM: Hazard, Willian, Pedro, New AM, Musonda Jr. S: Morata, New S, Batshuayi One could even argue that would be the bare minimum one should find acceptable. There's an argument to have 22 senior outfielders - I.e two more taking the total up to seven new players. Optimally it should perhaps be seven, bare minimum five with the most likely scenario for me right now being one or two new players. That would mean we'd end up with 16-17 senior outfielders. Last season we started out with 19 (incl Chalobah).
  23. Transfer Talk Topic

It's a funny clip but he does seem somewhat agitated to me. Maybe I'm over -thinking the situation? In any case, seems like the man sitting next to Conte had to step in before he said too much towards the end?
  24. Transfer Talk Topic

Hi mate. I must admit that I have a bit of a hard time following that analogy. It is not in Chelsea's power to decide where Costa has to move. They can decline offers, but thy can't accept one and force Costa to move there against his will. The club should have known there was an actual market of one club and one club only. The man himself has stated so publicly on a number of occasions consistently over time. You've said as much yourself. We're in a situation where we either make up with the man (foolishly I haven't given up completely) or sell him to Atletico for the offers that's on the table. The third option is the worst case scenario for all parties - we let him rot in Brazil and fine him his wages along the way. This would be a rather silly route to take out of spite.

Yes, quite a material difference Kev.
