As for the squad you've listed - that's exactly what I listed. Boga and Baker won't be here - you can be 100% certain of that. And even if they are, they won't be options... The overall balance is still the same, 9 for the back 5, 9+1 for the front 5. We have players who can play different positions, but it doesn't change the overall balance. I also expect us to play 343 for the majority of time as it would be crazy to change mid-season bar us having a terrible start (which to be honest, doesn't look impossible atm). As for the second paragraph, although I agree with you (that re-building the squad would take time) my worry is that once we are done or close to being done Conte won't be here to manage it. Then what? Start over again?

Well it's bizarre to claim Jose was the first manager in a long time that was given control of ins and outs. That's what you said and that's what I objected to. He didn't want to sell Cech, De Bruyne or Lukaku yet they all left. He didn't sign Zouma, Hector, Rahman, Djilo, Cuadrado and Salah. His comments about them said as much. He did say he asked the board for Matic, Costa and Fabregas and duly promised the title after he got them and guess what - he delivered. Its not an exact science but reading between the lines from what's made public makes me quite certain this is a lot closer to the truth than "Jose having complete control of ins and outs". It's simply not how we operate. There is absolutely no indications that Jose had full control. If it was, we wouldn't have been in the situation we found ourselves August 2015. And if Conte had the same say, we wouldn't be in the situ ion we find ourselves in now.

Utter madness is right. At this point in time we desperately need (in order of preference); 1 AM 1 LWB 1 CM 1 RWB 1 AM 1 S first four is absolutely essential imo. A second new AM desirable while we can make do without a third striker.

That's bizarre. Given Jose's comments on a lot of ins and outs I'd say he didn't have any more or less input than any other manager. He was very vocal on having played a part in Costa, Matic and Fabregas whereas he was the opposite on a lot of the others (Cuadrado, Salah, Djilobodji etc). I think what Zoowra said is a lot closer to the truth. The manager has some input on areas in need of strengthening and some names he'd like to fill those voids. The club adds names on that list and take it from there.

Talk right now is that the club will sign at least another three players before the window closes. Matt Law claims it to be Van Dijk and Serge Aurier while Drinkwater has been heavily linked. GK: Courtois, Caballero, Eduardo DF: Van Dijk, Luiz, Cahill, Azpilicueta, Rudiger, Christensen WB: Aurier, Moses, Alonso CM: Kanté, Bakayoko, Fabregas, Drinkwater AM: Hazard, Pedro, Willian, Musonda S: Morata, Bats That's 18 senior outfielders plus Musonda. 9 players for the CB and WB positions and 9 + 1 players for the CM, AM and S positions. Not sure how well Aurier can play in the WB position though and is he also able to play as LWB or is he a RWB only? Would people be happy with this squad? Personally I'd be underwhelmed by this although it wouldn't be a total disaster. Think it's unbalanced and still lacking in WB and AM.

Us signing VVD would be utter madness given what we need and how short we are in other positions... Can't see it happening to be perfectly honest. But then it's always this part of me who's slightly worried that someone with power at the club fancies VVD and sees him as a starting CB for the next 5-6 seasons. And then it may not be so much about what we need here and now, but rather that we see him as a long-term solution. Personally I don't rate VVD at all, so would be very disappointed if we did end up buying him. A quick word on Carraghers views on how we are run as a club. Nothing new at all, this has been known for a decade. We are managed by Emenalo and the football board and the manager is simply just there to carry out their vision. Which is why I stated that I'd be utterly surprised if Conte stayed beyond his first three seasons. That's not how we operate - it's almost like we want to have turnover in managers just to re-energise the squad. The new contract for Conte speaks volumes on his long-term prospects here. This is also the reason why the squad issues are firmly the boards responsibility and the buck stops with them. The manager can only give his input but given that we don't even expect them to stay beyond 24 months why would anyone listen to the manager? As I said, input yes, decision power no.
  7. Transfer Talk Topic

The only common denominator here is the board. Managers or Head Coaches don't buy or sell players, the members of the board and football board is responsible for that.
  8. Transfer Talk Topic

Not a chance. There's still four weeks to go of the window. You must wait until it has closed and we have slipped down to 8th by October before you are allowed to state the obvious around here. So please have some manners and act accordingly! *sarcasm alert.... Wow. Imagine how someone can have such different viewpoint in two near identical scenarios. One was called Mourinho and the other Conte. Go figure. Bang on. I warned for this back in April/May and here we are. We are at least four top quality players short and if anyone thinks those will come in between now and Sep 1 I can only herald their positive outlook. Personally I can't see it happening. If we manage to get two top players in I'll be over the moon... The fact that Conte is the Head Coach means little. Mourinho was "manager" and that didn't make one iota of a difference. Remember what Jose said in May 2015 and what he said in September 2015 after the board gave him two new CBs (Hector and Papy)... I blame the board 100%. If we manage to lose Conte like we did Jose, it's time to start looking at the real culprits (I've been saying this for years now, back in 2010/11 really). The problem is the board. Full stop. Exactly - which is why I feel 100% confident to state that the problem is the board and was always the board. The managers not so much. There's not a manager out there who actually wants a squad of 14 outfield players. Yes James, I've been saying this for years as well yet you found great pleasure ridiculing that stance. Glad to see you've picked up albeit 6 years too late. Well done nonetheless. Absolutely - spend top money to buy talent we can't produce ourselves and then let players like Solanke, Abraham, Chalobah, Ake etc be squad players and then actually play them! I don't understand why we make things so hard for ourselves. But no manager will play the youth because they're scared of getting the sack... We we are one week off the season proper and we don't even have a full match-day squad on our books. Four weeks to go and we are at least four top players short. We are setting ourselves up for a disastrous season. 100% the boards fault.

If he's a success at Liverpool, there will be some hard questions asked...
  10. Transfer Talk Topic

No idea what you are talking about now Droy. Think I did speculate on what we know and stated what option I'm leaning towards without giving any definite answer. I also mentioned there may be other possible scenarios. So no, don't think it's clear at all.
  11. Transfer Talk Topic

Well whether it is reasonable or not would certainly hinge on what scenario you deem more beliveable. 1. That Conte would, all of a sudden and with no reason, decide that our second best player should be frozen out after having played a key role in us winning the league and subsequently told to **** off with an sms being the only means of communication 2. That Costa has repeatedly asked the club to leave and misbehaved at certain times last season and was finally granted his wish I must admit I'm strongly leaning towards scenario two without (admittedly) knowing the facts in this sorry story. Of course there may be other versions of this as well. However, according to Conte (he may be lying) Costa had asked to leave sereval times throughout last season where Conte promised him he would be allowed to leave (I'd wager after that January debacle) this summer. Under those circumstances, it's downright bizarre that Costa would make up an sms (we are actually not even sure the sms was ever sent) or even mention the sms (if it was sent) if Conte is telling the truth. Because it should come as no surprise to him that he was allowed to leave. I wouldn't be surprised if Costa asked to leave several times where Conte finally granted that wish. Then Costa discovered that A Madrid wasn't allowed to register new players and all of a sudden had a change of heart. By then Conte (rightfully) had no interest to keep him. I will miss him when he was at his best. We will miss his goals and physical presence but I won't miss his antics and the press hounding him (and us) after every game. Finally, please don't implicate me in the sad discussion you and others have on whatever opinions people may have had on Costa. I have no interest to get ivolved in that. I have already talked to two children for the best part of last night and this morning. Yes without a doubt, Costa is a level above Morata. At least for now... Let's see how the young lad gets along.

I'm not a fan of Van Dijk. A big, slow and clumsy central defender that reminds me of Kompany. Disgracefully overrated imo. If Liverool are ready to throw £50m on him we should do everything in our power to make it happen. Mum not so sure that Christensen would "very arguably" be our best CB though. I hope he makes it here and that we are ready to give him a chance. But a part of me sort of banks on us selling him within the next 12 months. I hope you're right! Yep - Costa has consistently asked to leave and have been quite open about wanting to leave in the past. Mid I tell my employer consistently that I want to leave despite them paying me a kings ransom and giving me a key role in the team, chances are their patience will run out and they'll find someone who really wants to be in my place. Diego made his bed, time for him to lie in it. I can't see any scenario that entails both Costa and Conte staying at the club and where Costa is back in the team. I also see little need for saying sorry, Costa has created this situation all by himself as I seriously doubt that Conte really wanted to get rid of him. But there's only that much one can take and Conte has a rep of being a bit of a hothead himself so I reckon he's not one to be messed with. I'm all for Conte stamping his authority and saying enough is enough. If we have players that find that unacceptable they're free to go as well.
  13. Transfer Talk Topic

I think we can all agree that the text message was poor from Conte - very poor even and totally unnecessary. However, it was Costa who made it public and Chelsea never comment on these things. Basically his agent is saying that because Costa made it public the club is in breach because we haven't commented on it? That's just an extremely strange way of trying to blame us. I also happen to think that this dates back to last January where Conte is on record that Costa asked to leave on three separate occasions. Now his wish is granted it feels, to me at least, that Costa is trying to devalue his potential transfer fee by feeding these stories to the press. The club didn't bite and now his agent threatens with legal action. I say we call his bluff, slap a £60m fee on his head and don't budge an inch. If Atletico wants him, they better pay. If they don't, well then he stays and is forced to train with the reserves. He refuses that we can hold him to breath of contract and save ourselves some money on his salary. In this instance I defend and support the club 100%.

You mean this? Wow. I have to bow to your insight on this one guys. Had no idea he had endured such a torrid injury record at Real... 79 games missed in four seasons? Makes Robben look like a gladiator! However, there is always this lingering feeling that if we would be able to solve his injury problems he'd be a fantastic signing. Anyone think that Bale could be available for a discounted price given his injury record? If he was, would it be worth the risk? But all in all, it doesn't look good does it?
  15. Transfer Talk Topic

Costa's agent mouthing off in the press. I particularly liked this bit - talk about being cheeky. 'We are going to use all possible legal mechanisms to hold Chelsea responsible for their behaviour, making possible the departure of Diego Costa,' his lawyer Ricardo Cardoso said. Talking to EFE agency, he added: 'He will formally request the transfer. When he was with the Spanish national team in June, he was dismissed from Chelsea by Antonio Conte through an SMS message... 'The way in which it was carried out and the fact that it came out in public shows unfair behaviour and a lack of respect for the player and it is inadmissible and inexcusable on Antonio Conte's part. 'Not only have Chelsea not intervened or denied it either in public or in private, but they have renewed Conte's contract, demonstrating they agree with the dismissal of Diego Costa and the way in which it was processed. 'This discriminatory behaviour makes it impossible for Diego Costa to return to Chelsea while Antonio Conte is the coach, there is no condition for him to continue playing at Chelsea, which has already been passed on to those responsible several times. 'At the moment moment, he does not want to play for a club other than Atletico Madrid.' Personally I'm starting to warm to the idea of letting him rot in the reserves...

Yes, if Bale is available we simply have to be there and try to sign him. He isn't Ronaldo, Messi or Neymar, but in the PL he has some attributes that would be extremely valuable. A front three with Hazard, Bale, Willian, Pedro, Musonda, Morata and Bats would be quite tasty... And as you state below - what on earth are we supposed to do with a 6th CB at this point in time? Even if we would move Azpi to RWB, it would make our balance a bit off I reckon as we'd lose a lot of the attacking threat on the right side. I fear we'd become too defensive and predictable doing this...

I said you are quick to call others bullies and accusing them of veering off topic. Then I see how you carry yourself towards me and perhaps more relevant, Droy. I don't care if you feel the urge to call me names. I do however care that you can't take what you give. That's being a bit childish. As for the 'dummies', it was hard to make that distinction among the list of insults you directed towards me. Perhaps I was wrong to assume that 'dummies' was yet another insult - my bad. Haply to hear that. Ta.
  18. Transfer Talk Topic

For someone who seem to be quite quick to condemn others posting (veering off topic, bullying) you seem to do it yourself a little bit too often. As I have tried to demonstrate to both you and Mr Marvellous, without the name-calling to start with by the way, what you are claiming is wrong. I'm not saying it, financial theory is saying it. Unfortunately you couldn't resist and had to retort to name-calling like 'moron', 'dummy' and my all time favourite 'Mohrinho cult'. You get a little bit back and you cry foul. aren't you a grown man? Anyhow, I'll make sure to stay clear of you and that marvellous dude in the future.
  19. Transfer Talk Topic

Quite - by far the biggest transfer of a defender to an English team. At least there's someone that gets it, thanks:) I think it has already been demonstrated why you seem to be a bit off base with this one. Just to add on Ramires - he's always been a 'shuttler' and played as a right midfielder at both Benfica and Brazil. So plain him in right midfield was not playing him out of position at all actually.
  20. Transfer Talk Topic

This really should be beneath you. If you don't know what you're talking about, I'm not sure this is the way to tackle a discussion. A bit more humility would go a long way. I get it, economics or valuation isn't everyone's cup of tea. That's fair enough. But given your own and "Mr. Mavellous" intellectual limitations, you really are opneing yourself up for not only ridicule but something far worse. 'Dummies' is the right word - you only direct it towards the wrong corner. It's you who are the dummies unfortunately. Not that you'd ever grasp that mind. As you were. There's an excellent book on the subject. I have it somewhere but can't seem to find it right now. Once I do, and if you are interested on the subject I'd be happy to share. I own it but it has been packed into a box somewhere due to multiple moves. It really would be mind-blowing stuff for a few on these boards. Not that one would have to own a book to understand basic financial theory. What makes football different from the rest of society is that it lives its own economic life indepenedent of recent fiancial crisis. As long as the TV money is there prices will continue to rise at several multipes above normal inflation. But you'd need basic education to get these things. I maintain that Rio Ferdinand is the most expensive defender ever transfered to an English team. That should raise a few eyebrows and hopefully wake up a few numpties.
  21. Transfer Talk Topic

I'm sorry you feel that way. Unfortunately for you, it's not me you should blame. It's the economists and the system we have adopted for our society. If you think I use time value of money to defend Mourinho, you need to take a long hard look in the mirror. Or alternative pick up a book before you comment.
  22. Transfer Talk Topic

Well since you have used completely unrealistic numbers, it's a rather pointless question. I know you are trying to be clever here, but it further underpins the fact that you don't understand it.
  23. Transfer Talk Topic

But they are not, they are more expensive in nominal terms. But looking at nominal amounts is meaningless. It says absolutely nothing at all. That's is what you don't understand. And when you take this uninformed view, and start comparing prices over time - it becomes downright misleading. Ronaldo at £89m isn't £89m today. You can't compare the £89m paid for him with the £89m paid for Pogba. They are miles apart. If you want to compare squad prices over time, you need to do it from the same base. Otherwise it says nothing. But as I said, as you don't understand this there's no point to go on. I won't waste time educating you, that responsibility lies elsewhere.
  24. Transfer Talk Topic

What of the above was not on topic? Transfer fees over time and the clubs loan strategy doesn't belong in the transfer tread? If you don't like it, don't read it. Simple.
  25. Transfer Talk Topic

Wow. You clearly don't understand what you are talking about. Money in football today is worth less than it was ten years ago. Looking at nominal values is absolutely pointless and is incorrect. Comparing transfer fees over time without factoring in inflation is gives no insight whatsoever. But as you don't understand this fairly simple fact, let's leave it at that. I also CLEARLY stated "when factoring in football inflation". Think you may want to use the term "moron" a bit more carefully. Especially after posting drivel like you did above.
