  3. Michael Essien

Essien at whatever price is a HUGE mistake! Another one-season wonder coming to rattle Tiago's position? This is getting insane! Why buy a 23 year old player from Benfica and after one year of fooling around with his potential, go for an unproven player. IS THIS HOW WE HOPE TO DEVELOP OUR PLAYERS? Kaka was bought for JUST £6m at the REAL age of I think 20/21 years and he has been groomed and cultured properly to harness his full ability. That is AC Milan doing sensible business and all Chelsea can do is buy players and after ONE season, render them impotent! I'm sorry but if we continue in this annoying way, then that so-called success that Roman Abramovich is looking for in European and English domination will gather no moss! Just look at how ManYoo groomed the Scholes, Beckhams, Giggs and Keanes to be what they are today. Crazy crazy Chelsea!!!

  5. Frank Arnesen

Yes! We have money so we can do whatever we like. Nip Arnesen from Spurs to help us get the new Ronaldo wherever he is now. £10m? I would not be SURPRISED that we paid that much just to get ourselves off the hook. And... In the business of spotting talent, there is a HUGE element of luck involved. As for Michael Carrick, I don't think he that bad a player and after watching him play against Colombia in the unnecessary US tour, he will surely improve. But if Arnesen was responsible for buying Tomithee Atouba, Noel Pamarot and the other mechanics in Spurs, then I have to wonder why. But surely, his vision must be better than Jose's in signing Drogba for £24m after discarding Crespo and then running back to Crespo for help!

Fantastic player, he seems desperate to join us, and it's much better value than paying £32M for a confused and uncommitted Gerrard. Right, I'm gonna sit here and wait for hernancrespo's comment! Where are ya mate?! id="quote"> id="quote">I'm here seething with rage and anger over this joke of the season! I am calling on the boys to stop him at Heathrow and return him back to France. I'm corking my gun! Essien in blue? You are joking... I better stop this move. basole, I need your help too... Jose Mourinho is testing my patience and he better wake up coz I am about to explode! What do we need Essien for?????????????
  8. Michael Essien

quote:Originally posted by BridgejunkyOf course we've heard nothing from the club that substantiates the "Jose is desperate to get Essien" claim. Based on what I've seen of Essien there's no reason for JM to rate the fella so highly; £17m would be at least £10m too much. In any case signing both him and SWP would put a cloud over JC's future so my vote is: SWP - yes please; Essien - no thanks. id="quote"> id="quote">Very well said!

  10. Michael Essien

Yeah! and it's possible that he demanded to leave to Lyon to join ManYoo. Where does Jose want this fella to play? What happens to my beloved Tiago? Let me search for Mrs Essien's number coz if he joins us, I am gonna run out of town!

  13. Gianfranco Zola

It will good to have Zola in any capacity at the Bridge. I think he will come back in one way or the other...
  14. Michael Essien

Essien worth £26m? I am really having a terrible day then... Like I've said before, please let's forget this guy! He is not what we need and neither is he worth all this hassle. I watched John Mikel Obi play today and win the silver ball from the U-20 World Cup despite lossing and he is top draw! Let Lyon keep their man and let us build something more prospective and sensible. Please God! Not another one season wonder!!!

OK David80! let's leave this issue to rest and pray for the betterment of Chelsea. I hold nothing against you and just felt that the word was a bit strong for this debate. This age issue may never end...

quote:Originally posted by Trev CrosseAt the risk of inflaming this further hernan, I think that you are perhaps being a little unfair. I think that you may have taken the 'fool' comment rather harshly, I know that it can be very difficult to convey the 'tone' of a comment in plain text, but I suspect (and sincerely hope) that it was not intended as a serious slur on your character. I might also point out that you might not have understood David80's post in their entirety either- I don't think that he was ever saying that you didn't support Tiago. I think he was merely trying to point out that he does too. Incidentally, on the issue of personal attacks, I don't think that your comments about hallucinating in Copenhagen and arguing blindly are called for. They certainly appear to me to be quote:categorising peopleid="quote"> id="quote"> and I would suggest that perhaps, in the future, your might quote:choose your words wiselyid="quote"> id="quote"> We all debate equally on this site, and do not cede to those more senior in years. If someone tells me that I argue blindly in a particular discussion, I would take that maybe he feels my knowledge of that subject isn't too deep. In this case, someone can only argue responsibly if they have any experience of how this works in Africa. Basole writes on this and writes from a proper understanding of the REAL situations on ground. I hope you understand my points and see that while I know where Tiago can play and be most effective, I doubt that even J.Cole knows where he can play and be most effective for Chelsea. At least, Jose Mourinho said this from a close range and not from a distance...

That is what I saw when I responded... id="quote"> id="quote"> I wasnt trying to say that, but since you brought it up. I wouldnt put anything past someone who expects others to PROVE a players age when pushing his "conspiracy theory". id="quote"> id="quote">Haha! They cannot get enough of me... Can they? I could be Malcolm Glazer you know? You just never know Crowey. Now, that's even more conspiracy for you. OK, back to reality... In every discussion or reasonable debate, they will be opinions of the rightist, leftist and middle men. They shall be those who know, claim to know and actually do not even know. They will be protagonists and antagonists all for different causes. Where everyone agrees whilst nodding their heads, there is a problem. Above all these, it is the points made that will forever leave in the memories of its participants and not necessarily the battles. But there still has to be some decorum of moral integrity and pivotal excellence. It is obvious that the age saga that I actually started concerning Michael Essien has become overflogged and overbearing rather than the major issue of contemplating to sign him based on his so-called ability. The question is, don't we all have opinions? Don't I have the right to disagree with a piece of information that I find wanting? Don't I have the choice to believe what I want or accept is true? Is it a conspiracy to dispute someone's age? Haven't some contributors made a big deal out of this whole age issue? The conspiracy is ignoring the reasons given for not signing Essien and addressing the sole issue of his age. When you share my similar experiences in Africa for over two decades, you will understand where I am coming from. You cannot buy experience and neither can you understand how it works especially if you played some competitions at a young stage and discovered that you were actually playing against men and not boys! What will I really gain from pushing through a conspiracy? Nothing... But you must be surprised how resolute I am concerning this and that comes from the inside which has its own conviction built on a platform of history. History and conspiracy and worlds apart but I am glad to align with the earlier until I see a change in the pattern. How I wish you really understand and experience this feeling...

quote:Originally posted by David80quote:Originally posted by hernancrespoOn to the other points you made. Essien is a good player but what Chelsea needs is a sort of midfield General or better say dictator to boost our attack. Someone who stands up when the midfield is overwhelmed or some to pivot the attack from the middle. Look at what Ronaldinho does for club and country. Look at what Zidane did for club and country. Look at what Nedved did for club and country. Look at Aimar and Riquelme for club and country. Some who can break the defensive walls and find Drogba, Duff and Robben without going blind. Just that special someone! id="quote"> id="quote"> You diss me for not wanting to give Tiago a fair chance while you want to see more competition for Joe Coles natural position? Isn't that shocking? We already have Tiago (who has proved that once given a bit more freedom by Jo´se he is a potent threat going forward), Cole (who endured a fantastic season for us this year and firmly established himself at the very top level. Remember his games against Barca at home and both legs against B Mûnchen), and Guddy (who has proved to be a major hit in the third midfiled slot and his vision is better utilised here). So while you want a Riquelme or what have you, I'd prefer to see SWP or any other potent right winger. And I don't think it is a coincidence that the players you mention are all playing in Spain or Italy. Playmakers in that mould have never really been the way to go. José has proved that he doesn't have a problem to play with that playmaker (Rivaldo at Barca while being assistant, Deco at Porto while being manager) and I think he therefore prefers a more "solid" third midfielder that also can defend properly. Hence his obsession to get Cole to defend properly IMO. id="quote"> id="quote">David80, You are arguing falsely and you saying that my doubting Essien's age makes me look like a fool nothing but an insult. If you are used to abusing people because of an arguement, then you need help! I am serious about this... Other people have debated on this issue without rendering insults and those are the kind of people I prefer to argue with and not someone whose mentality wonders around insolence and wild imaginations. I do not also get involved with little minds via the web especially when the person cannot read my post properly and respond accordingly. Have I not been protecting Tiago's corner in this debate? Have I not repeatedly said that Tiago should be given a chance? Did I not paste the stats regarding Tiago and Essien to butress my defence for Tiago? HAVE YOU BEEN ACTUALLY READING MY POSTS? Until, you learn to do so with due respect for people like me who are not less than TEN years your senior in age, I will not continue any conversation with you to avoid further tantrums thrown down my way. I speak for players from a continent I know! I speak for players from a continent I lived in and studied closely on such matters! I do not sit in Copenhagen and hallucinate issues and then arguing blindly! I cannot stigmatise my own people for the fun of it! When next you want to categorise people, think again and choose your words wisely. That will make you a better person than you are!

  23. Michael Essien

quote:Originally posted by cyrus Basole, trust me when I say I know Essien very well. As I said earlier, Essien was a secondary school legend in Cape Coast, Ghana and led his school to the national championship. His rival in those days was Derek Boateng formerly of Panathaniakos. Essien was 19 in 99 when he starred for the Ghana Black Starlets in New Zealand 99. hernancrespo, you'll realise that I haven't said Essien is just what Chelsea need to improve the midfield. I merely clarified the age issue and argued that he has a record of achievement at every stage of his relatively short career. Even his exploits with the perenially underachieving Ghana Black Stars shows that Essien always lives up to expectation. As to whether he'll be a success at Chelsea or not, I can't say for sure. But based on his ability and record, I would not doubt that he'll suceed at Chelsea. The comparison with Djemba Djemba is also flawed. DD never achieved the kind pf success that Essien has in France and wasn't as dominant as Essien is right now. DD never won the French footballer of the year but Essien has. DD never led his country to the brink of WC qualification but Essien has. Well this may all be moot since Aulas just said this morning that Essien is staying at Lyon. Perhaps, hernancrespo will be more convinced after Essien has another sterling season with Lyon id="quote"> id="quote">You see my point Cyrus? See what I was talking about? Just that special someone! Unfortunately, Essien is not the one and I wish him and Ghana well for the future after all I hugely admired Ghanian players like Abedi Pele, Tony Yeboah, Abdul Razak, Edward Ansah and Frank Amankwah during their days when they kept dominating Nigeria in the 80's and early 90's. James Prescott: No worries as debates can get really passionate but surely mine does not denegerate into a warfare. Certainly not after all we are all BLUE brothers working for a common interest to the glory of Chelsea.
  24. Michael Essien

For those who haven't seen this before, please compare both and tell me the difference. For Essien http://uk.sports.yahoo.com/fo/profiles/100...0000011673.html and for Tiago http://uk.sports.yahoo.com/fo/profiles/20592.html and see how "GREAT" Essien is. Best player in France and then he must come to Chelsea? Why not re-sign Enrique De Lucas then?
  25. Michael Essien

quote:Originally posted by David80quote:Originally posted by hernancrespo[br When are we going to get a midfield dynamite to run the show? This is what Chelsea needs and the man is not Essien... id="quote"> id="quote"> Er, Lampard anyone? Hernancrespo, I have followed your arguments concerning Essien and mate, they are non-existent. First of all, let me clarify one thing. I don't want Essien at £20-24 millions. Not a chance. But I would like to see him with us if a decent sum could be agreed upon. But what's this crap about him not being 22? I mean, unless you have ANY sort of proof your arguments are quite thin aren't they? And isn't it a bit judgemental to claim his age is fake just cause he is from Africa? Wasn't this supposed to be an intelligtent forum? What José actually has in mind is something we all have to wait for. All he said was 1 left back, 1 midfilder and 1 attacker. What is an attacker? Is the Robben/Duff positions attackers? Or are they midfielders? Is an attacker in José's eyes a striker? Lots of question but I'm afraid we will have to wait for the answers. After we sold Parker I think we do lack some quality in midfield. But since we have Tiago and Cole (not to mention Guddy) I'd prefer to see SWP and an attacker (here I mean striker) arrive before pre-season starts. But to dismiss Essien like you do, without ANY arguments whatsoever (apart from your personal viewpoint) is premature to say the least. If José are looking for a Gerrard type of player for the third midfield slot Essien is it, bar the obvious- Gerrard. id="quote"> id="quote">My points are non-existent but yours are? Do we live in the same world? Can you proof that he is 22 years? You talk of being judgemental but doesn't your mail contradict itself? Isn't it a pot calling a kettle black? Whether you like it or not, that is my viewpoint and some of you talk from a very distant knowledge! What is actually commonsensical is that NONE of us can proof he is 22 years or not so why must your opinion be seen as final on the age issue? David, produce a better argument and like I said earlier, some of you will continue to hide under the canopy of his age and ignore the technical side of things. Tell me in all honesty, WHAT WILL Essien BRING TO CHELSEA? After all, Jose is not Nostradimus to see tomorrow but we need to buy a striker and not another defensive midfielder! Most of you talk of Essien not being a one-season wonder but what else has he done before last season? How many goals did he score before last season? Who knew him before last season? Is Essien Ronaldinho? Listen, I am not dismissing Essien as you insinuate but only express that we do not need him. Did I not paste a link regarding his last season compared to Tiago? Have you looked at that? Can we not groom the players we buy? Shocking...
