There was no real pick up in effort after JM went.  There was a rationalisation of ambition which helped - we no longer attempted to win every game, and were more willing to accept a draw.  But I don't think there was any evidence that the players tried harder for Hiddink.

I was referring specifically to the first game: I can remember the vitriol aimed at some of the players, "where were you when we were sh!t?".

Message to James Prescott.Listen to yourself and believe in what you say. There are people who talk a good game here, that would have us relegated under tso. They toy with you James like a cat does with a mouse. The truth is you deserve more respect.

The José disciples are young, intelligent and have no emotion towards football. They pull together like some sort of elite club.stay strong James,we need supporters like you that question things.

As a well known politician was told...Don't let the bastards get you down.

Just what I wanted to read on my 65th birthday! Thanks!

I think the blame for this should be put firmly on the South Yorkshire Police force. Probably just sitting back in South Yorkshire twiddling their thumbs..

...and preparing their position for questions about the Battle of Orgreave.

  4. From the BBC:

"Liverpool had so much riding on this game. The lure of Champions League football, set alongside the chance to play for Klopp and at Anfield, would have completed an attractive package to set before any potential signings.

Now they cannot offer any sort of European football as they ended well beaten here in another night of disappointment for Klopp, who has now lost five successive finals with Dortmund and Liverpool."

Brings tears to your eyes, doesn't it?

  5. I'm an atheist myself, but many thanks to those who gave prayers to the footballing gods: it's enough to make me become a believer.

...and thank you Sevilla: you'll probably never understand how much of a media ordeal from which you've saved us!

EDIT: writing of media ordeals: I couldn't bear to have R5Live on during the game, so had R4 on instead, and as a result got to hear a very interesting programme about Flo Nightingale, the statistician. God moves in mysterious ways!

Miazga is seen as the future of the US backline.  While the MLS is by no means a good league, he has lots of talent.  I'm not saying he's ready to be thrown into the fray right now, but the kid is a real solid player

The Telegraph slates us for this (potential) deal.

"Chelsea supporters will no doubt be worried by the direction their club are heading in, following the botched summer transfer window that saw central defender Papy Djilobodji, Falcao and Baba Rahman all signed."

  7. In fairness to everyone running the club , had we not panicked about FFP and let's face it UEFA would have hit us much harder than they did anyone else, and cashed in on Mata , DeBruyne and Lukaku to help balance the budget the playing squad would have looked a lot healthier in some departments than it currently does. It's not like our scouts haven't identified good players and the board have not totally neglected their duties. I suppose you could say Platini won in the end , having tried the bent ref thing a couple of times. I hope it keeps him warm in cell block H.

I suspect he'd rather enjoy cell block H, with plenty to keep him warm. I'd rather see him in an H Block.
