  1. To be confirmed tomorrow apparently.

Taking Moses, Luiz and Drinkwater out of the squad leaves you with 17 foreigners, so any new signings would have to be either home grown or under 21. You could keep Moses instead of Zappa to gain an extra space. Possibly Drinkwater instead of Bakayoko too.
  3. Fabregas, Cahill, Giroud, Pedro and Luiz (plus both our keepers) are all out of contract next summer. Their resale value is minimal (Luiz a possible exception) so they'd be best used as squad players before a bigger overhaul next summer. I don't see any reason to let them go. Though the idea of a 2019 summer overhaul assumes that the owner will buck the recent trend and back the head coach ahead of his second season. Three or four players this summer then 5 next year, possibly including loanees, would give Sarri a season to get to know the league and get us back into the top 4. Then we'll expect to challenge in 2019/20. I don't see us waiting until 2021 to challenge again. I quite liked the idea of Fabregas tutoring Mount as his successor but as Mount seems likely to be loaned that's never going to happen.
  4. Squad Status: 2018/2019 Season

With the addition of Jorginho we're up to 16 foreigners in the squad: Foreign (16): Courtois, Caballero, Luiz, Apzilicueta, Alonso, Zappacosta, Rüdiger, Emerson, Kanté, Jorginho, Bakayoko, Pedro, Willian, Hazard, Morata, Giroud Homegrown (6): Cahill, Moses, Christensen, Fabregas, Drinkwater, Barkley U21 (1): Ampadu Other candidates: Foreign: Zouma, Pašalić, Batshuayi Homegrown: Blackman, Aina, Loftus-Cheek, Musonda, Palmer, U21: Mount, Hudson-Odoi, Abraham

Unfortunately he probably won't be back from holiday until around the Community Shield (Giroud too). I guess Morata and Tammy will share duties in pre-season, with Tammy going off on loan on deadline day and Morata starting off as first choice.

People saying that Sarri doesn't rotate were on to something. Here's a list of the number of players that played more than 1000 minutes in the league last season: Chelsea - 15 Man City - 16 Man Utd - 15 Napoli - 12 Juventus - 17 Roma - 16 Of course maybe he didn't rotate because he didn't have the squad.

We've already got Cudicini to do that! Do we have any other former Italian favourites that haven't made it as coaches to add to the staff? Vialli?

They need goals, not assists. For that reason I think they'll try for Kane.
  9. Chelsea Reserve & Youth Team

To help with the withdrawal symptoms the UEFA U-19 starts on Monday, which is being shown on Sky in the UK and on YouTube in places without a TV deal: https://www.uefa.com/under19/news/newsid=2564586.html England play first on Tuesday against Turkey. Chelsea had seven players in the training squad but now that Chalobah, James and Sterling are on loan, whilst Mount and Hudson-Odoi will hope to be with the first team in Australia there might be very little Chelsea involvement. It's for players born on or after 1 Jan 1999 so Guehi, Cumming and McEachran are probably the only other likely candidates.

I hope this is based on inside knowledge, not optimism!

As well as a new coach, can be bring in a Director of Football/Technical Director plus sign 3/4 senior players (+ replacements for any departures) ahead of the first league match in 30 days' time?

I guess their opinion was we will have to pay his salary until next summer most likely, so best get some value out of him until we can confirm the new coach and staff, which is taking longer to resolve than expected due to legal complications. I'd have had the academy/loan coaches training the first team, seems to me a bit toxic to have a dead man walking training the first team - but given that it's only the back-up players at the moment I guess the club didn't care too much!

11 done, approximately another 35 non-first team players to be loaned or sold by 9 August (or 31 August in some cases)!

...unless you win the Champions League

I'm not a big fan of his baggage, but If Sarri lasts 24 months and pushes the club towards possession-based football, whilst building a squad comfortable with that style, I can take that. Lampard and Jody should be ready for the big job in 2020!

I don't rate Barkley either, but he'll probably get at least half a season to show his stuff. I look forward to a midfield 3 of: 4: Jorginho or Fabregas 6: Kanté or Bakayoko 8: Loftus-Cheek or Barkley or Fabregas I don't know that Golovin would improve the first team, and if we sign him we'll show only encourage more youngsters to leave the club. I'd rather the club concentrate on attacking midfielders - we only have Hazard, Willian and Pedro to play wide in a 4-3-3 and we might lose 1 or 2 of those, if not this summer than definitely next. 2 signings in this area plus Hudson-Odoi would be my priority.

Currently our coach is out of contract at the end of the season, plus 7 of our 21 senior first team players. 29 days until the transfer window closes and 31 days until the first league match!

    So he's staying then.

That final sentence is the reason why I hope that Zola doesn't return in a coaching capacity. I always feel quite sorry for Cudicini for similar reasons, he doesn't really seem to have any coaching input and has effectively been Conte's PA.

Or alternatively people use the widely available and easy-to-use automatic backup systems. If they lose their phone they can restore everything within a matter of moments. Try not to look down on anyone that doesn't think or act exactly as you decree that humans should.

Giroud is a good fit for the players that we have around him and I don't see Higuain as an improvement. Morata, Batshuayi and Abraham offer something different. Unless someone exceptional, young and reasonably-priced (unlikely) becomes available I don't see any reason to look for a centre forward. One or two of Martial, Zaha, Bailey and the like, plus Kovavic or Seri, would cover our most important needs. That would take us to 21/22 senior outfield players. Then we'd need to replace anyone that wants to leave.
  23. Transfer Talk Topic

Is Higuain £56M better than Giroud? The big Frenchman is showing how useful he can be if you get enough quick, quality forwards playing off him. I think he'll get another year's contract dyring the season. We don't need another target man, we need more attacking midfielders. Plus a deep central midfielder.
  24. Transfer Talk Topic

Exactly. Just turned 24 and wouldn't be too expensive, plus has plenty to prove after being behind Casemiro and Modric in the pecking order. Him playing deep would give Kanté the freedom to roam and a number 8 the chance to get forward and score goals.

https://weaintgotnohistory.sbnation.com/chelsea-fc-transfer-rumours-news/2018/7/4/17533754/chelsea-have-enquired-about-real-madrids-mateo-kovacic-report This is a transfer rumour I like. Kovacic, Kanté, Fabregas, Loftus-Cheek, Bakayoko, Barkley and Drinkwater gives us some depth for a midfield 3. A few too many question marks, but it's a start.
