Hunter S Thompson

Is anyone else a fan of the late, great Hunter Stockton Thompson?

The more I read, the bigger fan I become.

I've just bought a new book by a guy called Ralph Steadman called The Joke's Over, which is basically his memories of HST.

Ralph Steadman was the guy who did most of the drawings in Thompson's books.

Horses for courses I'm afraid. Never could get on with his work. I felt Burroughs was better.

I have always been keen to read 'Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas', mainly for the 'gonzo' style, but unfortunately it has always been out/lost. I did read 'The Rum Diary'. That wasn't bad.

I can't understand why the same people that seemed to enjoy that Football Factory piece of crap also like Hunter S Thompson.

I don't think Burroughs and Thompson can be compared either Gronkjaer. I used to be into the Beat generation when I was younger (although I never really read anything of Ginsburg's apart from a few poems), but Burrough's style does seem irritating to me now. Kerouac's style you get used to quickly and ignore it, but Burroughs' seems really clumsey.
