Yeah, strange.  Nine tenths he has rescued them, but it is not all over yet.
My guess is that Pearson started making demands about next season and the chairman read him the riot act and it just got out of control.
I think for many many teams the gap between "what we have to do to stay up next seasons" and "what we have to do to stay out of bankruptcy" has never been wider.

Quite possible.  But he was only contracted until the end of the season wasn't he? So I'm starting to wonder if this is a cynical ploy to avoid paying bonuses or employing him full-time?

He's done an excellent job for them too.  They were well adrift when he took over and he leaves as the Watford manager with the highest points per game average in their PL history.

Got to admit, I'm puzzled by this Watford - Nigel Pearson decision.  Especially a week before the season ends

Once again a perfect example of a board/owners getting ideas above their station.  Watford will go down next season, and will deserve it.

Yep.  I remember Charlton thinking they had outgrown Curbishley.

That was probably the Charlton fans rather than the board.  Where are Charlton now?  And where's Curbishley?  Why is no club touching him with a barge pole?

Curbishley sunk a lot more clubs than just Charlton.  All were better off without him.
At Charlton he started as joint manager with Gritt for 4 years, a player Charlton fans identified much closer with.  So they tend to credit the rise from D2 to D1as being Gritt's work and suspect that Curbishley shafted Gritt afterwards.

And conceding 4 puts them in a relegation spot on gd by 1 goal.  Villa beat Arsenal.
Could be a last game as he who concedes least goes through.
Or a Bournemouth win could put both down.

Not sure if this is the right place, but I couldn't resist it:

There's a very good version of The Streets' "Dry your eyes mate" too.
