What has been most frustrating in previous seasons is the countless millions wasted on ordinary players. Even if the academy isn't producing a JT or a Lampard, if it can at least produce squad fillers that save you spending 20m on Emerson or Zappacosta, you can then spend big on special players.

We could have kept Bertrand and not spent millions on Luis, and Baba Rahman. Am sure there are other examples. Not suggesting Betrand was the answer to all our problems, but he certainly could have saved the club some money.

Exactly this.

Ok, but the aim was still to replace Matic, not to have a dm3 option.

Yet they didn't even turn out to be good enough squad fillers. £80m spent in transfer fees and God knows how much in wages.

So we should have kept some young kid and  never bought Sheva, Torres and Morata.   Never ever making mistake is a great policy.

Juni writes on Gael Kakuta - long piece.
Informative as usual.

He really does have a knack for being in the wrong place at the wrong time , you have to feel for him really , nothing clicked .

There's a pretty big and important difference between Danny Drinkwater and Torres/Sheva. I'm sure you are able to detect it if you try hard enough.

Yes indeed.  He might get relegated again, but he will certainly start a lot.
