If the rumours are true regarding recalling Ake, would Chelsea not do now, rather than waiting any longer?

Ake is a strange one. He (Conte) says we don't need any reinforcements at CB (which I agree with, given that 6/16 outfield players are CBs - Azpilicueta, Ivanovic, Terry, Zouma, Cahill, Luiz) but at the same time he talks about bringing Ake back who's played as a CB for Bournemouth.

Maybe he can be an option at CM and LWB?

He is very versatile and a home grown Premier League quality player. I reckon he is the exact kind of player we need given he can cover two of our most light positions at LWB and CM as well as providing a pacey CB option probably closer to what Conte would like than Zouma. I certainly don't see him as a massive step down from Alonso and he is a far more realistic option than Kennedy though it will take him a bit of time for him to learn the position. He would definitely help us until the summer when we can re-evaluate and see if we want to go into the market again for a wing back.

I hope he really makes it at ours. I think Akè is terrific.

I've just checked and he qualifies as club trained for CL as well which makes him very valuable if he can become a legitimate option for us.

Oh don't get me wrong, I thought he could have been a genuine squad option when he was 18, never mind now.

I rate him highly but for me he doesn't seem to have a specialist position he can call his own. Maybe as a LCB/LWB or CM. But as a pure CB in a pair he's too light I reckon.

Agree completely. And with Zouma and Terry about to make their anticipated come-backs, I think we're looking pretty strong without going into the market chasing defensive reinforcements, right now.

Not that Phil Neville is someone whose opinion I usually value but he said something on MOTD the other day: basically that he got to play 250+ games for United and win a load of trophies because he could play about 6 positions.

Ake can play virtually anywhere across midfield and the back line, is home grown for champions league and is as proven in the premier league as young players get.

If it happens now or in the summer I think he does need to be part of the squad.

Hope we do call him back. I think he is much better than most think. Sorts out the left footed CB that Conte was looking for. Hope he does not play back up.  I am pretty sure he is better than some in our first 11. Just needs more game time to prove it. He is quality.
