Well, turn up for the books.

Apparently it's not just Conte who is furious with Marina and Emenalo about the transfer activity this summer - so is Roman. According to reports Roman apologised to Conte for not getting the number or quality of players he wanted and is set to have stern words with Emenalo and Marina.

Damn right.

Might mean an interesting January window. Especially with players like Sanchez and Barkley running out of contract, and Mahrez still wanting out of Leicester.

I hope so James.

From the outside looking in, there appears to be a clear disconnect between the various strands involved in our transfer activities, while we as fans collectively scratch our heads trying to decode fact from fiction.

Conte on a beach in one country, Diego on the beach in another and Ross Barkley on another planet...it can only be Chelsea 👌

What a load of old rubbish , no quotations , no proof , I may as well write an article about how Ross Barkley turned down Chelsea because he wanted a ride on Santa's sleigh to the stadium for the amount of truth in it.

Yes. And of course, it will please  few here to read this sort of stuff - "Ahh, I knew it!" - but thankfully, most have seen through the 'apparently' nonsense.

We know that Mourinho used to convince players into joining the club (Zouma and Fabregas have both shared that for instance), so it would be strange if the club suddenly did not want to involve the manager in that process. One thing that recognises Conte, is that he only wants players that are 100 % committed to the team. If the goal is to persuade a player to join you go with the "I am going to build my team around you, you are guaranteed to play", but that may backfire when things eventually don't work out that way. Another way is to be brutally honest and say "you have the abilities I am looking for in my team and I think you can be great, but you must work hard and prove that you should play just like everyone else". You might miss out on a few, but the player is way more likely to act and respond in the way the manager wants.

Not saying that's neseccarily why we missed out on Chamberlain, Llorente, Barkley etc, but it would not surprise me if that was the case either. And if it was, I honestly prefer someone with a clear vision like Conte. Even if it means missing out on a few.

As people have pointed out, the articles are BS as there are no direct quotes and they are easy to write clickbait. That said, looking at Conte's character from what he has said whilst here and his time at Juve, I think it is fair to say that he is a man that will not go to great lenghts to convince players he is not sure of. Ergo, I cannot see him being heavily involved in either the Ox or Barkley negotiations since neither where natural fits for our squaf and both where likely to end up on the bench.

Of course - totally without foundation whatsoever.

Yes.

Seems to me that the phoniest story of the week would be that Club and manager first team coach are happy with each other at the moment.  But we can't say it, even if we do read it in the paper.

Perhaps it would be wisest to wait for an official announcement from the club at the end of the season.

That's just media-fabricated bullshit.

1. It's the Daily Star

2. The media story all summer has been that Conte isn't happy

3. That's the first question he'll get during the Leicester presser and his reply will be "I'm happy with the squad and ready to work with these players".

4. To keep this story to run further, the media will need to find a senior figure who won't talk to the media - step forward Roman A.

5. This way, they have the "Chelsea crisis" narrative done for the season.

Edit: to clarify, it wasn't the strategy to bring in players that backfired, it was that we sold/released too many players.

For us to bring in 8+ players or to have a net spend of £150m was never going to happen (despite your insistence we would). The £80m net spend we had this summer isn't on par with Man C or Man U, but it's on par with City's 10 year average and £50m more than our 10 year average.

Considering what the importance of a top 4 finish, a good run in Europe and a good cup run is to our finances I am surprised we didn’t tackle the market more aggressively.

Top 4 by no means guaranteed..if there are improvements in our squad they're marginal and our lack of numbers makes potential injuries a huge concern.

Suppose there's always the January window should we need it........oh God :)

The Barton Barklay story (that he walked because Conte's phone was turned off and he couldn't speak to him) sounds to me both entirely made up, and almost certainly true.  Certainly a very good guess at what happened.

Yes it was.  But still a major Fxxx up by manager/directors all the same.
