Can we stop pretending Conte has little or no say on transfers.

Luiz, Rudiger, Zappacosta, Alonso, Emerson, Drinkwater, Bakayoko, Kante. Maybe not his first choice, no managers get their first choice in every target, but 100% unquestionably Conte signings.

If Conte had his way we would have bought the same type of player at a far greater cost. Thankfully the board didn't allow this. He has been allowed to shape this squad  with far more backing than any manager since Jose the first time round. Not just with buying new players but also who we sell.

Ivanovic, Terry, Mikel, Oscar, Costa, Batshuayi, Ake, Chalobah, Luiz, Matic. All gone. He has been given a huge amount of backing.

Shame he still threw his toys out of the pram.

Oscar, Matic and Costa obviously wanted to leave so the club did what it could to get the best sale prices. It may be guesswork but a coach's man management skills are normally a key reason for players choosing to leave.

Ivanovic, Terry and Mikel had obviously come to the end of their Chelsea life span so moves where the best for all.

The Aké, Chalobah and Batshuayi departures seem to have been motivated by Conte's decisions - not trusting them with meaningful minutes. More trust and they could be realistic squad options for us this season.

I think that the outgoings more than the incomings show how Conte has been backed. Mainly for the worse.

Not least because he'd have walked and absolutely, definitely not have taken a pay rise if the situation was any other way, huh.

Conte has definitely been backed more than he is trying to make it look. But I still think the club has been too rigid in terms of outdated club policies, and should have backed him even more. That is a missed opportunity now, and the result is us missing out on CL football. A massive blow for the club, and potentially harming our ability to properly challenge over the next 2-5 years. Imo, both Conte and the board are to blame. It has most to do with bad decision making over the last 12 months. Neither covering themselves in glory. One party gets the chance to do better next time, the other party will have to leave. That's just how it is.

Dying for change to happen.

If someone is drowning you don't offer to throw him a lifeline in six months time if he promises to stop screaming.

And you don't offer him a rubber ring that has been patched up when you can afford to give him a really nice big shiny one.

Otherwise he drowns .

Maybe he should have signed an a extension rather than just taking a pay rise?

 not whilst he's denying it.

He only denies it in the transfer window when hacks keep asking him who he is going to buy this week.  Doesn't mention it any other part of the year.
I take it you don't read the newspapers much or you'd see people spout total nonsense every day and no one blinks an eye. As for football managers, like most managers, if they really hold the power of job or no job over their employees, they tend to play it down.  If they aren't really in control they brag that they are.

:)  Still think the pay rise was for waiting a second year and not walking last summer.

It wouldn't effect buying the wrong players at the wrong time , or do you think we were punishing him for refusing the extension ? If so , way to go Marina , don't make things so good he wants to stay , make the job so hard he cannot wait to get away .

She should be taking notes about the paperclip budget at Gazprom not deciding between the merits of the third tier left back compared to  the fourth tier one.

You might want to read the Daily Mail , big write up about Tuchel about to go to PSG.

This unnecessarily disrespectful; what little there is about her in the public sphere indicates she is an obscenely successful business person.

There really doesn't seem to be any suggestion whatsoever, either in what the club itself says about her role or in what I've ever seen in the media, that she has any role at all in identifying players. Her role seems very much to be about managing financial negotiations. I guess you could make the argument she's doing a bad job of that, but it seems far more likely she's doing exactly the job she's employed to do and just not the one some of us would prefer.
