Antonio Rudgier Signs!

"Premier League champions Chelsea have signed Germany defender Antonio Rudiger from Roma on a five-year contract for an initial fee of £29m.

Rudiger, 24, completed the transfer one week after helping world champions Germany win the Confederations Cup.

"It's a great feeling because not every player has the opportunity to join a huge club like this," said Rudiger.

The fee for Chelsea's first major signing of the summer could rise to £33.3m with add-on clauses.

"Antonio is still young but is experienced at club and international level and possesses all the requisite attributes to thrive in the Premier League," said Chelsea's technical director Michael Emenalo.

"He is a player of proven quality."

Rudiger will wear the number two shirt left vacant after Branislav Ivanovic's departure to Zenit St Petersburg in February.

Because he was set to take a break after his involvement in the Confederations Cup, Rudiger is unlikely to be involved when the majority of Antonio Conte's squad return to pre-season training on Monday."

Welcome, Antonio!

Welcome big guy joining a club with the best chance of any English side of winning all four trophies in a season. Plus you won't have to dye your hair or invent your own dance steps to prove your worth.

Not the most impressive signing and hasn't exactly stood out at Roma since he joined them, however he's got some solid attributes that can be worked on. With Conte, we've got the right man for that with his impact with similar players like Bonucci and Barzagli.

Should provide some good competition and also free up Azpi for more time at RWB.

Look forward to seeing if he can make that step up.

He looked good in the Confed Cup, Strong good in the air and comfortable on the ball, Could be a shrewd aquisition

Interesting attributes, and should combine well with other rumoured targets (Danilo, Sandro, Bakayoko etc).

Hmm the first signing we made and only 5 replies. He is not the worst and been in the German team for some time now.

I am excited to see him play for his. Long legs and likes to duel something I feel we lack. Is decent in 1:1 situations especially since he has played wide before too. Areas where he needs to work are Communication, Positioning but the thing I worry about his lack of composure. All of the above IMO can be worked on with time.

So welcome the real Big F**King German !!

Welcome Antonio!

Interesting signing. On the face of it, he seems to have the right attributes to be quality CB. He's quick, strong, good in the air and comfortable on the ball. Still being only 24, he should be able to improve other aspects of his game, especially under Conte's tutelage. Also sorts us out at CB with a fair few options now.

Welcome to Chelsea.

I don't anything about him to be honest, let's hope he fits in and does well.
