Maybe £45 / £50m is a touch high, but we are in an awfully weak and strange bargaining position, whereby he is the ONLY player in the world we can buy.

It's him or nothing and we need him.

According to The Guardian...

"Chelsea are poised to complete the permanent signing of Real Madrid’s Mateo Kovacic for a fee which could rise to €50m (£44.8m) with add-ons."

[I bolded that for emphasis]

Waste of money on another average player. It’s ridiculous considering we’ve spent over hundred million on Kovacic, drink water and Bakayoko..

Surely this club have had enough of being fleeced by Madrid. This guy is not worth even half of the reported 50m they want.

Being fleeced by Madrid? Eh? We've hardly bought anyone from them, and any recent dealings have been at market rate.

Catastrophising for the sake of a moan.

The Drinkwater and Bakayoko fees have nothing to do with it, though.

The only thing that matters is, do the club want him, and bearing in mind he is the only available player to us, how much it costs.

Not everything is judged by goals and assists.

Perhaps it should be more important when our entire midfield - RLC seems devoid of much in the ways of goals or assists

Don’t really rate him as a player doesn’t influence a game can’t shoot to save his life rather give mount some playing time rather than spending money on him

Wonder if frank gave the nod of approval?

hopefully Marina did her usual bargaining and the £44 is over a period of time. Also would be interesting to know how much his loan fee was.

Bottom line is that RM got hazard for about £40. Bizarre.

I was expecting something more like £35m but OK. He's very good in possession and has that ability of dropping a shoulder beating a man in midfield.

There was always a little bit of everyone giving the ball to Hazard and hoping he would create something himself. With him out of the team hopefully players like Kovacic has the self-belief to step up and take the initiative in the attacking phase now.

Don’t mind him as a player, but just seems like bit of an odd buy in my opinion.

If everyone is fit, Kovacic doesn’t start more often than not, and Midfield is probably the only area we are stacked with plenty of ‘squad players’, so to pay £40m for one is bit of a head scratcher.

Would guess the order of importance and hierarchy would look something like this (appreciating its not as simple as this)

1. Kante

2. Jorginho

3. RLC

4. Kovacic/Barkley

5. Drinkwater/Mount/Bakayoko

6. Ampadu

Perhaps RLC’s injury outlook isn’t overly positive?
