Well well well. What a difference a manager can make eh? Two new signings and one forced (Kepa) and the transformation is complete. We score for fun and play some lovely attacking combinations. Hazard is enjoying himself immensily.

Three away games coming up. Paok (EL). West Ham (EL). Liverpool (LC). Then Liverpool at home in the league. Come on Chelsea!

Arrizabalaga: 6 - not really tested

Azpilicueta: 7 - contributed at both ends. Rock solid defensively

Rüdiger: 6 - solid but looked a bit sloppy in posession

Luiz: 7 - bossed the back four and played an important part in the build-up phase

Alonso: 7 - subdued by his own high standards. Still important at both ends today

Kanté: 6 - struggled to make a big impression. Wasn't bad by any means but didn't really stand out either

Jorginho: 6 - almost felt like there was no need to have both him and Kanté today

Kovacic: 7 - our best CM before the forced sub

Pedro: 6 - worked hard as ever but struggled to make an impact

Giroud: 8 - two assists and constantly brought Hazard into play. Strong performance

Hazard: 9* - Hattrick and motm. Unplayable

Subs:

Barkley: 7 - kept the ball well

Willian: 8 - one assist (the penalty) and a wonder goal

Zappacosta: 6 - played in an unfamiliar role

Goals:

1-1 Hazard (Giroud)

2-1 Hazard (Giroud)

3-1 Hazard (Willian) penalty

4-1 Willian (Alonso)

These matches last season gave us real problems and even though people say we should have won all these first five matches, but last season we dropped so many points against sides such as these, so for me its been a great start.

One thing that I feel may need changing is Luiz, hate to say it as I always been a huge fan but I feel he is a liability so even though Christensen doesn't have Luiz's range of passing, he is more solid defender.

Agreed. I think we'll tail off as the Europa starts but as long as we keep winning against the teams outside the top 6 we'll make top 4

Do you agree? Just how good was Hazard today?!

I'd like Hazard to be a little more quick in the middle of the pitch. Early in the first half he seemed to dwell on the ball a bit. We improved once we started moving the ball around quickly. Love how decisive Hazard has become with this finishing. The old Hazard would have not taken the shot that got his first goal. Today he had made up his mind to shoot as soon as he took the lay off from Giroud. After that every movement was geared towards hitting the back of the net. Almost Drogbaesque.

Excellent save from Kepa in the second half. Giroud was superb as a point of reference upfront. Increasingly looking like we will in the market for a striker soon. Christensen has to start nudging Luiz out of the starting line up. So we are still one striker and one winger away from the perfect starting XI; but with Hazard in such form it probably won't matter.

Thanks for the ratings Ghost.

What is the Kovacic injury?

Wow what a goal!. If we can get Willian into those positions and a shooting chance every game his goal tally would triple. He is so good at those. The problem is Hazard likes similar positions.

Lol. Actually the problem is Willian, like Hazard, loves to dribble more than look for his shot which explains why they end up in similar spaces. Pedro is the opposite which is why he’s relatively a bit more consistent  goal scorer than Willian and overall better compliments Hazard.

Just hope he starts on Thursday instead of Moses...

Baring injury, Moses will start on Thursday opposite Willian. CHO will enter in the second half. Too bad RLC is injured. He was sure to start and I was looking forward to him play.

5 games, 5 wins, 14 goals scored and some very good football being played. Hazard has 5 goals and 2 assists in a little over 300 minutes of football.

Just imagine how good we will be in a year or two with a couple more additions to the squad. To get us playing like this after 5 games, after spending 2 years playing like we did under Conte is remarkable.

Yes Hazard was great today but he had help from Giroud and the again the link up play with Kova is excellently fluid.
