We don't have enough crosses of decent quality, and the ones that we produce tend to come late when the back four of our opponents have fully returned and re-organised.

To create dangerous crosses, you need good wing play -  an  early ball to the winger would send defenders running towards their goal. The cross must arrive in the space between the keeper and the returning defenders. That is the space that Hazard (or any forward) would be attacking. Instead, our crosses come in against a well lined up back four facing the opposition's half, with no space behind them. Only a pretty hopeless set of defenders would struggle to cut those out.

It's a no brainer that every time Jorginho is marked out of a game, the manager should ask the team to use the early ball to take on the fullback. Once a fullback loses a contest with our winger, their manager would be up on his feet like a rocket, to re-jig his formation. You would have already scored a tactical point. Much better than persisting with a failed strategy.

Many are missing the importance of Silva in this. He provides most of the penetrating through ball, negating the last line if defence, for the overlapping winger to provide a clear unobstructed low cross to another player waiting for the tap in. Our team? Nobody is capable of that. Only back passes or passes to the wings for the wingers to beat the defenders.

Yes.  I would like our wide men to be sitting at the far post more often.  We are beginning to move in the right direction - Higuain at least does seem to have read a coaching book and knows his move should be to race to the near post (which no one seemed to have told Morata).  Next is the far post.  Only when that position is being taken up can we worry about the cutback ball to the current SFL  As it is everyone is hoping for a cut back which makes it really easy for the defenders (whereas near post and far post threats makes it almost impossible to deal with a cut back too.

And more recently we have seen wide men stay wide more often, sometimes even Hazard, which means coming in as a far post tap-in becomes more possible.  CHO always plays this way (as teenage wingers almost always do).

But as Kezza says we have no real guile behind the front 3, and none of them are reaching the danger areas too.  Hazard is always tempted to play as if he was Fabregas which then often forces the LB to stay forward.  But even Alonso isn't going to be sitting far post very often.

Don't think so... it seems Sarri has finally concluded Emerson is a better left back. Alonso seems to have started more games recently that one could consider 'watered down starting XIs' whereas Emerson is beginning to start in more games one would consider "full strength starting XIs'

Thanks Bob, and not even on the bench.

Sarri has said in the past that he sees no point in having an LB on the bench. I think he thinks he should be able to cover that position in case of injury.

Quite right.  The only reason to have more than one defender on the bench is if you don't have 1 CF, 3 AMs and one or two CMs to put there first.

All Chelsea so far and we've got our passing game going well I think, although no dangerous moments yet.

I think we should start appealing for goalkicks when we've won a corner .

At least we'll be in better positions to stop the counter attack that our piss poor corners spark.
