We're starting to struggle, we need Kante or Kovacic to take control of possession.

Good call. They surely did. My men of the match.

Terrific performance. Made Atletico look ordinary. Some strong individual performances but that was a solid team display from back to front. Credit to Tuchel. He’s imposed a structure, turned things around and we look disciplined, confident and fluent. He’s done a remarkable job in such a short period of time. Not sure we’re good enough upfront to win the Champions League this year but he’s turned us into a team that is bloody hard to score against and at least we’re no longer pushovers.

Edit: Okay, I wasn’t going to mention individual performances but Kante ran the whole length of the pitch in the 94th minute to make a dummy run to set up the pass for Emerson. Then he just casually looked on as Emerson scored. Phenomenal player.

“Is there three of Kanté on the pitch tonight?”

Definitely: Kante triplets. They were everywhere I lost count.

– Diego Simeone magnanimous in defeat.

That's good of him. BT commentators were sure he would moan about the non-pen and red card.

Wow what a performance!!  One of our best European performances in recent history.  We pressed like maniacs and our passing was slick and fast.  Is it still just the two goals conceded in 13 games under TT?  If that’s correct, that is seriously, seriously impressive.

Obviously still a bit to do in the final 10 metres of the pitch but you get a sense that it’s coming. The front 3 were improved tonight - Havertz in particular you can see the huge potential.  His ability to find pockets of space is v good and he links up so well.  The difference between him now and when he first came back after Covid is like night and day.

As others have said, Kante and Rudiger were both superb and our best players but  special shout out to Zouma. He doesn’t have AC’s or Silva’s composure or ability on the ball, but he is a brilliant defender, and a scary mf for attackers!  A couple of big but fair challenges on Suarez early on and he went into hiding for the rest of the game. I seemed to recall him doing this against Burnley and Everton in the last year too.  Get really tight to his man early on and they don’t want it.  Big credit for coming in and performing like that.

Looking forward to Friday...

Has Droy been on yet to explain (with reference to xG) why we would have been better with Jorginho on the pitch?
