Hennessey was released at the end of last season, not sure where he is now, will check later.

Baker and Sprague will still be in the younger groups, Baker played in an u14s tournament in Portugal last year iirc, and scored a coupla goals.

Juni, great email. Hopefully it'll get taken on board by Duncan Castles. Though the fact that Castles is still pumping Jose's mate for insider dirt on Chelsea months after he left makes me think it's a pretty distant hope.

I don't really see what we're doing differently with our academy than what the saviours of football at Arsenal are - picking up talented teens and occasionally planting them at a satellite club on the continent to develop - but of course that was never going to be mentioned in the article.

As much as I appreciate that the journo has made an attempt to write something about the academies but most of the stuff he has written is clearly not well researched and his veiled potshots at Chelsea are pretty obvious. Well done Juni though for responding to his article in a very dignified manner and backing your arguments with well researched facts. Fans like you are a credit to Chelsea.

Looking at the list from the article of our academy purchases in 2005. A closer look at the oldest age group shows that we did quite well.

Scott Sinclair Bristol Rovers, under-17, July

Ryan Bertrand Gillingham, under-17, July

Harry Worley Stockport County, under-17, July

Fabio Ferreira Sporting Lisbon, under-17, summer

Ricardo Fernandes Sporting Lisbon, under-17, summer

Sinclair is already a member of the first team ( I am sure he would have had a bigger role to play if Jose was still here because thts why we didn't loan him out at the start of the season)

Betrand is already a Top Championship player still only 18

Worley was the one big flop

Jury is still out on Fabio and Ricardo but their injuries nightmare has played a big role in that.

So out of that 5. 1 is a first teamer and another is on the fringes.

And that was the first year of the academy restructure and reshuffle.

However what these anti-chelsea articles never mention is the fact that players like Mancienne, Cork, Bridcutt, Smith and Hutchinson are players that have being with the club since the age of 9. This minor fact and the fact that they are players on the fringes of the first team obviously dont matter especially when they are trying to paint chelsea in a bad colour.

If Cardiff are one of the worst teams in the FA Premier Academy League this season (based on their league record) they certainly didn't show it on Saturday morning at Cobham. It took two Jacob Mellis goals towards the end of the first half to earn Chelsea a point in ...

Subs: Rhys Taylor, Jack Saville, Carl Magnay, Jordon Hibbert, Daniel Philliskirk.

It's means that Cech will be fit tonight against Wigan.

Because Rhys Taylor on the bench.

Still can't understand why Paulo in reserves, maybe he injured? if so then his trip to Portugal more logical now or maybe he recovering from his collapse at Portugal airport?
