Sky Sports: Nouble set for Hammers move

Chelsea youngster heading to Upton Park

West Ham are poised to sign Chelsea youngster Frank Nouble, skysports.com understands.

The Hammers have moved for Nouble after the 17-year-old rejected the offer of a professional contract at Stamford Bridge.

Nouble is rated one of the best teenage talents in England having impressed for Chelsea in the FA Youth Cup and in the reserves.

Chelsea were keen to tie down Nouble to a long-term deal, but the young striker has decided to move on as he fears his first-team chances would have been limited at Stamford Bridge.

Arsenal were credited with an interest in Nouble, but West Ham have managed to lure the powerful frontman to Upton Park.

Nouble's signing will come as a massive coup to Hammers boss Gianfranco Zola as he is tipped for a big future in the game.

This is a massive blow, not just because Nouble is a talented player, but because of the signal it will send out to others.

If it happens, I expect it will be on the basis that he gets first team chances and first team wages, this would be a really unprecedented punt by West Ham on a player who isn't even regarded as one of the very best in his age range.

I can't see why we bought him if we had no intention of playing him.
It's simple, but absurd. You buy them on the absolutely minuscule chance that they develop into a world class player (the sort we need). There may be other considerations, but that's the basic. It's a bonus if they turn out to be half decent squad players somewhere along the line, but that takes as much patience from the player as it does from the club. The question shouldn't be 'why don't we play our 18 and 19 year olds' it should be 'how many 18 and 19 year olds are there in the world that are good enough to play for us?' You can probably count them on one hand.

For his career I'd probably say this is the correct decision by the lad, although there is no doubt he is talented but he has not got the technical ability to break into our first team IMO. He is very well built and pacey which gets you by at youth level. What he needs is games at a higher level and he is much more likely to get that at West Ham. Good luck
