I agree he is. Right from the start you could tell that he'd be a classy player. I think the reason he wasn't a cult hero here was down to attitude and not to do with performance. Not signing contracts and making the wrong noises never helps either..

If they can't pay what happens? Does the player go back to Leeds?? Would be time to get the popcorn out!

Gvardiol I think would be a better fit for us.. I think we're probably pushing to with both to try and get one of..

https://twitter.com/Gbenga4Glory/status/1555536027305099265 Interesting 🤓 interview regarding Rafinha from the Leeds owner. They could be in a sticky situation come 2nd September! Seems like they matched our bid and then left down to the player.

Seen that Harry Redknapp has said that he has it on good authority that De Jong wants to come here. Would be a great signing.

Just watched a number of youtubes ( yes I know!). Think you've got the RLC similarity correct. Didn't see as many silky RLC touches though. Seems an odd signing, suspect that the recommendation came from JT so hopefully he's seen something that YouTube hasn't ;)

I would rather have played Lukaku there than Traore. He is an awful player. He would be a disaster from the get-go. The only mode he has is forward on the joystick.

Yep. Still got to wonder what that 'meal' in the Italian restaurant was all about.. De Jong and Gvardiol/Skriniar, then all of a sudden it's a great window.

So maybe we will have to go with what we've got. Not sure who else is out there who is up to the standard we're looking for. Fofana isn't the answer - that would be a desperation buy. I would prefer to just give Colwill a go.

I think it's wrong that Azpi is supposedly in daily contact with Xavi. He's still contracted with us... Also Chelsea have served him well just as he has us. It's obvious that Tuchel is very aggrieved with both this and the Werner scenarios. I expect better from someone who is the club captain. Of course he may not be causing any friction and may not be in contact with Xavi but, it does feel odd for Tuchel to speak out about it.

Seems Tuchel is not a happy bunny at the moment. Publicly airing his views on the Azpi and Werner situations. He is right but not sure it helps with matters within the club.

    Hope Azpi understands this too

It's a shame for Azpi but no way should we let him go there if Kounde is heading there. It's easy to see where Tuchel is coming from with his comments

The talk is he didn't travel but, Barcelona have persuaded him to, giving them more time to strike a deal.. It's all rumour and paper talk - just hope it's not another case of a player pining over Barcelona.

Thanks I can sleep easy now :) In other news, there are rumours that Kounde has actually travelled! Hope that's not the case.

The idea is to put strength and energy around him so he can do what he does best which is receive the ball, always be available and start play. People focus on the times he does get outmuscled but it's not as often as one tries to make out because usually his and our positional sense is good. Sorry, but it grates on me the stick he gets because I think he is a class player.

Chalobah is not a natural ball player. He is too gangly where his first touch isn't predictable. Can't see him playing there. I don't know why people would think he would. Luiz did well when played there because he is more than comfortable on the ball. Jorgi is our best option there as he has 360 vision and a calmness when in possession. RLC is probably our next best bet. Do agree though that this shape could work well with our current attacking options.

I agree that moving on financially could be beneficial if it involves swapping with De Jong and only one year left on the contract. However, I don't know how someone could state that he doesn't know where the ball is going. This is his biggest strength and why he can keep possession and a side ticking over. I get that he has critics because he doesn't do the pretty stuff however, at a professional level I am sure the story is different. In 433 he would effectively be given more time as the athletic protection is there in front and behind - this would give a Jorginho/De Jong time to orchestrate the play. Jorginho already does this for us but, he is given a lot more responsibility to also be breaking down attacks in addition.. The role that is being asked is really a reverse 10 ie, a player with intelligence and distribution. The days of a DM winning the ball and passing to the first player in front of him have changed - I think Busquets was the player to make people think differently. So in short I think we have one of the best if we want to play a 433 however, if we were to move for a De Jong then it would make financial sense.

Agree with you 100% We are not looking at the traditional Makelele type of destroyer in that position. We are looking at someone that can start play and dictate the tempo - Jorginho is that player as long as he is complimented with the correct strength and athleticism around him.

I don't agree. City have lost Sterling, Jesus, Zichenko and possibly Silva. Liverpool have lost Mane. Arguably they're both weaker this year than last. As long as we replace Rudiger and Christensen with like for like, then by adding Sterling I believe we have already strengthened. Especially given that we'll be playing with 11 players instead of 10 next season. Gallagher also looks as though he can/will make the step up. It's not doom and gloom. The only difference is that I think Arsenal and Spurs have improved so the competition between the top 6 will be much closer than ever before!

How good is Colwill. The only time I have watched him has been in the playoff games. Appreciate he wasn't in the best team but, he didn't have the best of games in those. Maybe he knew that these were trial games for us. Tomori I am upset we didn't do more about - I think he showed the most promise.

Hope this is true. Have always been impressed with his style of play. Does this mean no Ake? Sterling, koulibally and kimpembe would be great business before the weekend. Anything more from that point is a bonus. Was hoping for kounde as he reminds me of a David Luiz type with lots of natural ability.

Looks good on paper but, I would prefer to put faith in Havertz as our starter and give Broja a chance as backup(Sterling and Werner can also play that role!). Werner over Pulisic - think he and Havertz (but on switched sides - Sterling right/Werner left)have a good understanding and could be a transformation season for him. Kovacic should be starting no matter what.. Also, think we can have one proper holding midfielder. Nunes sounds like an interesting prospect but, never watched him play. If we were to come then we would probably be saying goodbye to Kante or Jorginho.

Jorginho is one of the most intelligent football brains out there. I think the problem is that we have 3 non-goalscoring midfielders which is a problem. But each of those three midfielders, I'm my opinion, are world-class in their own right. It's the combination of the three and no goals that isn't right.

I know who he is but, didn't pay much attention to him. I don't watch motd often as go to the majority of our games home and away - my knowledge of players outside of the top clubs is not what it once was, the games I watch tend to only be ones that would impact us. I know there was a lot of hype around him but, really thought he was a wing-back. Hopefully will be pleasantly surprised.
