Kalou's days are also numbered. Happy Days!

Going by surname and Norwich City connections, I presume Angus Gunn is Bryan Gunn's son.

What's happening with Magnay? Is he still injured?

The guy next to Saville is Ashton I think. Aziz is next to Paul Clement.

I don't think that's right in entirety. Stoke usually field a very strong side in the reserve league made up of players who figure on the bench for the first team games and returning players. However, I have noticed that they have been fielding mainly a young team in the latter half of the campaign. The two Stoke teams that played against Chelsea were completely different. Juni might add more on this later but I don't think Stoke had a big pool of 'reserve' players so as to speak I.e. players between first team and youth team like our Fabio Borini. Based on last season and earlier half of the season for Stoke, the reserve games were all about giving competitive action to players who weren't getting regular action for the first team. Many youth players have featured this season for the reserve team and I would see that as very encouraging. Obviously, sometimes it was because of shortage of available players but still when you see the likes of Danny Mills holding their own against Iwulemo, you've to be impressed. Fewer and scattered fixtures coupled with the fact that reserve league is hardly competitive is the main reason why we have so many players out on loan every year to the league clubs. I guess because of the geographical divide of the reserve league, there is not a lot we can do to increase the fixtures in the calendar. The other option is to have more behind the close doors friendlies. I don't think we can expect the likes of Michael Ballack earning 100k/week to feature in a reserve game on a cold and wet Tuesday night up in Nantwich just to be match fit; that's not going to happen.

Haven't seen the game yet but from what I have read some Wolves supporters reckon he had his best game in gold and black colours. The block right at the end was amazing. Well done Michael.

Nigerian Sami Emmanuel is apparently on trial at Chelsea and Spuds. Hampton and Richmond Borough's U15 player Walter Figuiera has signed a 14 month academy contract at Chelsea.

Went to Northampton this afternoon for the England U17s Elite Qualifying Round Group 7 match against Swedish U17s(How I am cursing myself for missing the 7-1 mauling of Villa!). Both Nathaniel Chalobah and Josh McEachran, the two Chelsea lads named in the squad, started the game. I was also expecting Amin Affane, the Swedish youngster, we have signed to start for the opposition. On checking with Juni though he wasn't named in the squad and indeed that was the case on hearing the team announcement. Chalobah started in the center of defence and played for the full 90 minutes. He had a decent game though he could have done with better decision making at times. Sam Johnstone, the England goalkeeper, was sent off in the second half and that came as a result of defence trying to play offside. Josh started at left wing where he played for the first 45 minutes and he was the heartbeat of the side. Linked up well with the fullback and forwards and always made himself available for a pass. I was also impressed with the way he was riding the challenges and on occasions he was doubly marked up. For the first goal, Wickham received the ball from McEachran outside the box and showed some good footwork to open space for a shot. The second England goal came as a result of McEachran freekick which was headed in by Arsenal's Afobe. In the second half, McEachran moved to the right wing but it wasn't long before England were down to 10 men which resulted in him playing with more defensive responsibility. With England getting a little pegged back, Peacock decided the throw Hall, the quick West Ham man, in place of McEachran and that soon paid dividends as he scored the third and set up the final goal. England play their remaining two matches on Monday(against Malta at Pirelli Stadium, Burton) and Thursday(against Slovakia at Sixfields, Northampton) which might interest supporters in East Midlands.

Sadik is at Fulham nowadays I think.

Tickets were taken off sale online and from box office last Friday. So, if anyone turns up on the night, be prepared to be disappointed.

The OS is wrong and I can bring more witnesses to the table if you want! It was the highlight of the afternoon and the only topic of discussion in the half-time. You are right on other errors as well from what I remember - haxhia coming on as a sub later, whistle being blown earlier and the shape. Did Haxhia's news ever came on the official club channels? Surprised to see him today. It might be that he will be released at the end of the season. To be fair, Blackman was named on the teamsheet. Van Aanholt is back at Cobham. He came over to meet Brendan in the second half and the pair embraced each other quite warmly. Brendan asked him about his loan experience at Newcastle and Van Aanholt had only good things to say. It also appeared that Brendan had watched a couple of his games(probably the Swansea or Watford one) keenly as he was discussing some finer details with him. Disappointed to lose a two goal lead as I thought we had a good number of chances to win the match. Sala must have had at least 9-10 shots in the game. He had a very good first half. Sampayo I thought had a solid outing at leftback and Ince was a rock at the back. Somebody needs to tell Gokhan that he can't make a career at the highest level on dribbling alone.

JT did well tonight at the back. There wasn't much booing either during the game. When the team was announced for the first time, the booing was quite loud when they got to his name. I made sure it was drowned out around me by my 'One England Captain' . After the game started, his first few touches were jeered but later on didn't hear much. He was applauded as well a couple of times. Good to see that the anti-JT crowd was in a minority.

Difficult to make your way into a winning team. Plus, he can't play in his preferred position of a centrally attacking midfielder as that's reserved for Lallana. Mainly tried on the right side which is not his best position. The experience though will serve him well.

Don't know anything about the Rovers team but I would fancy us over two legs. Is the Bowen in their academy son of Mark Bowen?
  17. Chelsea Reserve & Youth Team

Thanks for that. Our next two home reserve games have been moved to Cobham as well.

Kakuta is definitely a no-brainer as you said. Bridcutt, I believe, shouldn't have a problem in finding a club in League 1or League 2. He has been on loan a couple of times and has league experience. Nana has been out in the shop window for less time but I think a few clubs in League 2 can take a punt on him. He is not that bad technically and his physical prowess can help him in forging a career in lower leagues. I would love to see the reserve players released in recent seasons push on but that hasn't really happened. Sawyer's career is in bit of a limbo. Jimmy Smith has found himself more often on the bench this season at Orient. Grant has done well though. Don't think Sahar is seeing much action either in Spain. Having too many keepers helps no one. Good for Heimann if it goes through. I think we are light on reserve players at the moment because I expect the likes of Bruma, Kakuta, Borini etc to push on more towards first team or go out on a loan. So, there will be places for Ahmed and Gordon at least for another year. Agree about Magnay.

Will you be going Phil. I might, at least that's what the plan is.

Cheers for the report. Good performance from the lads tonight and we excelled in every area of the pitch. Hopefully, we will make all this count and get to the finals. Whats your take on the likely opposition - Everton and Blackburn? I only made it 25 minutes past in the first half so missed the period of Watford domination according to your report! I would just like to comment on the first rate tosser who was refereeing the game today. Pulling cards out of his pocket for nothing really; the worst I have seen in a youth game. Most of them were in favour of us so I am not complaining but on another day we could have been on the receiving end.

I think he had a good game. As usual, he gave the impression of a player who has played at a higher level than reserves. His touch was excellent and he made good use of the ball. I was especially impressed with the way he received the ball. Got on the scoresheet as well which was his first Chelsea goal if I am not wrong.
  22. Chelsea Reserve & Youth Team

That's what I thought as well. Still, by far the biggest crowd of the season. Expecting a good turnout at Watford as well. I met a few people tonight and everyone was heading up north on Wednesday.
  23. Chelsea Reserve & Youth Team

Brentford have given the official turnout at 815. The attendance in the reverse fixture was around 1300. Too many Arsenal though for my liking!

Watched the Fulham game second half onwards and Cork did well after coming on. Fulham were 3-0 up at that time so may be it's not the best match for commenting on his performance. However, I saw things which I have come to expect from Cork and if he can replicate them on a consistent basis in this league then we certainly have a player there. He showed calmness and composure on the ball and maintained the shape in the middle. He was playing in a slightly advanced role as Bikey was playing as the sweeper. He always made himself available for a pass and didn't lose possession from what I remember. Linked up well with Eagles on a couple of occasions and also ventured unto the box when he saw a chance; it nearly resulted in a goal when a cross came to him but he fluffed the chance. He also made a great tackle just outside his box to win the ball. I have commented on this aspect of his game before as well that he seldom goes for winning the ball. I have come to the conclusion now that's probably how he plays his game. He rather likes to close down people and delay the pass or force them to pass it sideways or backwards. Burnley's passing style would help Cork and I am hopeful that his loan spell would be fruitful.
