Torres hasn't been our best player for 2 seasons running. Systems come and go, managers come and go, quality players remain. I'm sure not long will be gone before we are crying out for a player like Mata again.

Where did I claim that? I am just pointing out that everyone seems to take it as a fact that this system now is the way to go without even having another equal sample, and what we would be achieving other way around.

These things I agree with. Systems come and go, we of all people should know that. To even think about selling Mata to a rival because he hasn't lived up in this short time is ludicrous. I prefer to look at the time interval since Mata joined and he has been our best player in 4/5 of that period. I see Dave has already formed conclusive opinions that you can't win anything with him on the side based on a few months.I guess everyone has his opinion. David Silva is even less hard working and even less mobile than Mata but is an integral part of Manchester City. Özil and Cazorla start regularly for the league leaders. Everyone brings up the previous 2 seasons but you can't really compare them in my opinion. 2 years ago we lacked quality, last season we had many new players and also a small squad. This year we have a more settled squad, a bigger squad. Not one can claim for certain we wouldn't be leading now if we had continued our play from last season this season.

Quoting Zlatan Ibrahimovic now on his time at Barcelona: "You have a Ferrari and you drive it like a Fiat". Players have certain qualities and it is up to the manager to best utilize them. You don't fix something that isn't broken. I don't know what Mata did or did not do in regard to Mourinho but it is a manager's job to get the best out of every player and he clearly has failed in that regard. I know enough of Mata to know he is one of the most intelligent players in the world, with extremely good personality. I refuse to believe for a second he did an Adebayor and sulked and refused to take orders. It may well be the case that he hasn't got enough to change his game but it is up to the manager then to still utilize him to his best.

Quite an astonishing situation. When played correctly Mata is still one of the best players in the league(with Suarez, Agüero), let alone in Chelsea. Now obviously Mourinho favors more hard working players but to me it speaks volumes if a manager can't adapt to someone of Mata's qualities. But even that all aside it is stupid to sell him to United. I have absolutely no doubt that is he is sold this is going to hurt as, not this season but the following ones.
  6. Chelsea 3 - 1 Manchester United

I surely hope this isn't the case. Having watched ManU a fair few times this season they struggle heavily against sides who pressure them high up the pitch. The second point is that we are dealing with a chronic loser, David Moyes, here. What is it now, 12 years and still no wins against top sides away from home? He is bound to set up his team defensively and even if we tried to play on counter they'll probably leave enough players back for it to not work. Just do what we did to Liverpool and they'll crumble.
  7. Non Chelsea: Premier League

I think Sturridge's return will turn Liverpool's season to worse. If Rodgers was smart he'd bench him and not mess switch with a very good team unit. Today their general team play has been abysmal and it was many times when Suarez & Sturridge played together earlier too. Only once Sturridge got injured Liverpool started to really play well. I think the entire Suarez & Sturridge partnership is overrated and Liverpool don't play as well as a team with both of them on the pitch. Suarez plays better as a lone forward and their best chance of achieving anything is getting Suarez to play the way he wants.

The Christmas schedule should be scrapped along with the Carling Cup. One is a relic of the past and the other just pointless. 20% of the players in the PL are injured as it stands. The clubs and players in other countries get a significant advantage towards the 2nd half of the season and the world cup.

Great news Sherwood has got the Spurs job. There was a a worry they might actually get someone decent.

    What a goal by Kompany!
  12. Non Chelsea: Premier League

Liverpool are great to watch, hate it. Only Messi compares to Suarez when it comes to those players who are just wonderful to watch. Even Ronaldo doesn't have that effect. But its not just Suarez, the entire team looks well drained and playing above their weight. No way should that team be that good.

Doubt Liverpool will be accepting anything less than 70-80M next summer. They've already seen the difference of keeping him versus letting your star player go(see Spurs) and I don't think they are in any need to sell.

Whilst already being the highest scorer in PL Suarez could also be leading the assist table after getting 3 today...

How bad must your defense be when Welbeck score 2 against you. There are goalkeepers who offer more goal threat than Welbeck.
