  1. Who's seriously happy with us selling one of the top 5 keepers in the world for a pittance and spending nearly double on a kid, completely untested in both Europe and the PL who's barely even 3 years younger? Not to mention Liverpool's dealings on the far more experienced Alisson earlier in the window. We've been absolutely shafted here, and I guess we have to hope this guy will turn out to be half decent now otherwise Courtois and his agent will be laughing at us from afar come next season.

    Except it is.

£30m for supposedly one of the best keepers in the world? After what Liverpool just paid for Allison (who is untested in the PL)?

And then who would you be able to reinvest that money in, price-wise, like for like, who's of a similar quality?

  3. If he genuinely has gone AWOL why even bother selling him. Hold him to his contract and let him rot for a year. Don't even play him in the reserves, just on his own. It's not even worth the pittance RM are going to end up paying this year (can't even replace him to any kind of similar standard with the money) and the trade-off would be to set a precedent for the rest of the squad that we don't take kindly to players trying to take the piss.

Hoguain quoted as saying he turned us down because "Sarri was the only one that wanted me there"

Edit - also just seen Morata has changed shirt number to 29, maybe he couldn't handle the pressure. (He says it is to honour his twins born in the 29th) we have quite a few first team players in odd numbers now.

Freeing up the spot for Martial?

Seen a fairly convincing analysis from a pro designer that it's fake, but who knows. Even if it is fake, could well be the real deal on the way.

It is fake, saw an A+B of the Pogba picture somewhere (can't be bothered to go back and find it). And not too much in the way of anything at all coming out about that supposed transfer in the last couple of days - feels like there was one source and everyone ran with it. Strange that the fee was being quoted as €75m when the transfer is between two English clubs?

  6. Isn't anyone concerned about us buying half-baked fullbacks from Italian teams who offer nothing we don't already have (bar extra bodies) for what aren't inconsiderable fees? And especially so given Conte will likely walk by the end of the season if not sooner (and given the source they have to be Conte's choices)? Blew nearly £30m on Zappacosta who looks not only worse than Moses at attacking but worse than him at defending also, and now over £20m on Palmieri who has only just recovered from a serious knee injury which has kept him out for the entire season and by all accounts is neither an upgrade on Alonso nor even a real competitor. And we have Baba Rahman on the sidelines who has also just recovered from a serious injury who we could use in this exact role for free? And all this coming after signing two English midfield players who also had injuries when we signed them and hadn't played for a while (in one case, over a year)?

    What's going on?

Given the market and Drinkwater being English the deal itself isn't that terrible. Ultimately, he fits our needs and that's the main thing. Yeah, would have been nice if he was cheaper but when you look at players like Ox and Barkley who are in their final year of their contracts and going for similar fees, we haven't done too bad in comparison.

As for Matic, may only be 5m or so difference between prices, however we've gained a more robust and mobile player, with a bit more craft on the ball and who is an overall better fit for our system. While also being 2 years younger. In comparison United picked up a 29 year old immobile midfielder who isn't going to age well in the EPL going forward as mobility and speed decrease further.

Both sides have managed to overall pick up players that fit their current needs and systems.

We shouldn't be buying English players due to them being English though. Granted he is not a like-for-like with Matic, but as the reigning Champions and in 4 competitions this season I'd have thought we'd have a bit more ambition than to sign someone who is just completely average, and at such a preposterous cost. I mean, can someone justify to me how he's £35m and Chalobah was £3m?!

  8. Christ. £35m (only £5m less than we sold Matic for) for a United-reject with 3 caps, whose one good season was being carried by Kante and whose England place has recently been taken by a player we let go for £3m. Look where Leicester are now Kante's with us and that tells you all you need to know about how good DD actually is.

Well we will find out what we will do if we are 3-2 down.

Not feeling like we have it in us to battle a win under those conditions yet.

Hopefully, we wont get ourselves into that position to start with...

    Oh the foresight...

  10. I feel Pogba and Bale are pipe dreams at best.

We are better off finding these guys from the leagues they start in. Obviously there will not be a multitude of that kind of quality but if you pluck these guys at that early stage they can sometimes grow into that class.

Yes....with first team playing time. Which we are clearly not willing to provide. Hence why we'll probably always have to pay the larger fees. Matic being a prime example.
