Referee wasn't giving those outside the box all game. All of a sudden, any contact inside the box means a penalty.

Once upon a time it used to be the opposte. To get a pen you needed to be clearly fouled without a shadow of a doubt. You know, like properly kicked down or obviously held back (shirt-tug de luxe). These days any contact in the box and the light blue and red sides are screaming for murder.

Sky only wanting to talk about the Sterling non penalty but not the red he should have had and the nonsense penalty they got.

Well quite. I thought that was borderline red. It's late, it's dangerous and it's not on the ball. He leads with his foot open and doesn't even try to hold back. In the CL that's a red.

We are as good as them , we have a superb team spirit , we have a fantastic coach , they will not go into the CL game full of their customary swagger and belief , they will not fancy it at all .

If we can keep our players fit we really have a chance .

Today we were excellent in the second half having almost matched them in the first where their penalty was so soft it stopped them getting another later in the game .

They have to some degree kept their powder dry for the final with no DeBruyne or Mahrez but I still fancy us .

I missed the last five mins of the first. How soft was it? The Sterling vs. Zoun alate on was never a pen. Those types of calls never go our way when we suffer them. It's almost comical Pep claimed it so hard.

  4. After the first half it very much felt like anther game where Tuchel had done us a massive disservice with his team selection. The game should have been buried by HT but somehow we worked ourselves into the game and that second half performance is very impressive. Twice now we have beaten Man C and Tuchel sure has no issues playing well and getting resust against the big sides. It's been against some of the sides where we've been expected to win where we have failed due to not being clinical enough.

Some poor performances today. Ziyech, Pulisic and Werner struggled I thought and I'd be massively surprised if Mount and Havertz aren't nailed on starters for the rest pf the big games we have coming. Most likely with Werner added to that mix. Ziyech just lacks intensity and speed, he seems to be slightly out of depth in this league so far and I'm not sure he has it in him to take th eleap he needs.

Rüdiger a giant again. James was simly sublime that second half and also a big shout out to Gilmour who seemed complete at ease playing well at this level. Jorginho came on second half to calm things down when we had the ball and made sure we used it well.

Third now. Only a meltdown will lead us to miss out on top 4. Take a bow Thomas! Take a bow!

So you expect west ham to get 67 and Liverpool 68 max.

That means we need 7 points. Two wins and a draw from the last 3 even if we lose today.

Yes, that’ll do it. But it requires us to beat both Arsenal and Leicester at home. I wouldn’t call that certain outcomes.

Villa away seem to have some sort of black magic curse on it. We rarely seem to win there.

and just because it is a position that Fabregas played 10 years ago does not mean that those using it today have a clue what it is.

I’m sure people misuse it. Much like some still claim Kante is a defensive midfielder. But that is not a slight on the term, it’s a criticism of how people use it.

    Is it?

Win the other 3 league games and we're fine. Probably 7 points is enough

We could also pick a full team and lose.

Some of our players have played so many games, a rest here makes sense to me.

    West Ham is 3 points behind, Liverpool potentially 4 points behind if they win away to Man U. Their remaining games are;

West Ham: Everton (h), Brighton (a), West Brom (a), Soton (h). All very winnable and I’d expect them to get 9+ points from these games. That means they’ll end up on 67 points or more if I’m right.

Liverpool: Soton (h), Man U (a), West Brom (a), Burnley (a), Palace (h). All very winnable except Man U away perhaps. I expect them to get 10-12 points from these games. That means they’ll end up on 64-66 points. 69 if they win them all (highly unlikely).

    Our remaining schedule is tough.

    Man C (a), Arsenal (h), Leicester (h), Villa (a).

If we lose against City, we will have to win against both Arsenal and Leicester while drawing away to Villa - giving us 68 points.

So yeah, I’d very much claim that tonight’s game is a must not lose in order to not have our necks on the line for the remaining games. Plus, we have FA Cup and CL finals to play on top of these games...

Gilmour seems to thrive against decent teams who don't sit back.

If he's getting bullied we've got the bench.

I’m not so fussed about Gilmour. But I’m really worried about our pressing game...

Tuchel himself has stated Havertz does not play as a false 9.

I absolutely hate the term, it's made up football manager nonsense.

It’s not. It absolutely is not. The term has existed for a good 15 years.

Just because you may not understand it doesn’t mean it’s not a term or position. It would be like saying there is no such thing  as a box-to-box midfielder or a defensive midfielder or an attacking midfielder. I don’t think you’d ever deny those terms would you?

I think you have to play Werner with their high line.

    Worked in the cup semi.

I see your point, but I'm thinking Puli will fill that role to begin with and then have Werner off the bench with fresh legs.

But it could also be a case for:

                     Pulisic Mount

                           Werner

But Pulisic and Mount must play imo. Personally I'd rather give Havertz another go and rest Werner for this one. Kai was sublime against Real.

We are one of the best 3 or 4 teams in the world right now, with (right now) the best owner/board.
TT has got it right so far, yes.  But he has been given one hell of a squad.
If I were TT I'd be worried too.

I’ve been saying this before. Very little reason for us to cave in too soon. But if he wins us the FAC and the CL he deserves a new contract no doubt.

  11. Seriously. Over 180 minutes not a single soul could have complained if we won that 7-1. We completely bossed them today and they had nothing to add to the mix whatsoever. Tuchel deserves a lot of praise, he’s made us almost impossible to beat. What this team is lacking is one serious goal scorer upfront but then again Havertz was sublime today. Ditto Werner. I was cursing badly when he was taken off for Pulisic but then again he came on and just continued what Werner had started.

Mendy, Silva, Rudiger, Azpilicueta, Kante, Mount, Havertz and Werner were different class tonight. Jorginho deserves a lot of praise to keep his cool in such a precarious position after an early yellow.

I’ll say it now, we will revenge the awful penalty loss to Man U in Moscow 2008 against the other Manchester side. Pre-cursor on Saturday. Let’s see how this ends up. But I’m quietly confident to be perfectly honest.

Get in! The third ever CL final for the club. Absolutely amazing stuff!

Well you keep forming your opinions based on not watching players then.

I'm sorry what? So if I don't agree with your opinions of a players that means I don't watch them play? Do you even read what you write? It does come across as quite arrogant I must say...

Good example of moving the goalposts right there.

Not at all. Unless you want to float the idea here that the Bundesliga and the CL is as good as the PL - which they quite obviously aren't. The CL has about 2-5 serious games each season depending on how far you progress in the competition. The PL is 38 games.

So that entire debate, not just with you,  was about me saying he should play more centrally as he was playing left wing and I was told I was wrong as that is where he had always played, albeit mostly by Lampard fan boys, and I dont get it....

He wasn't playing left wing. Ever. So yeah, you still don't get it. The heatmaps was there to clarify things for you but no, they were obviously not coloured enough for you (sorry, but feels like you are playing dumber than you are here).

On recent form I would say he has been right on those two.  They certainly can play.

For a combined £120m I think most were looking for a bit more than "they can play".

Not as many as Haaland had at 20

Werner at 21 scored 21 league goals for RB Leipzig. Håland in the season he turns 21 has scored 25 league goals for B Dortmund. No one has claimed Håland isn't a good player, what I see is posters questioning him being priced as a generational talent like Mbappé/Neymar.

it is a dreadful indictment of their first 6 months.  Fortunately they have adapted now and look great.

Looking at their goals and assists that's a truly bizarre comment even for you.

  13. 4 minutes ago, Martin1905 said:

Right, so Werner is still playing left wing is he?

Havertz? Can play anywhere, much like I said.

Never said Werrner was a left winger. All those posts and you still don't get it?

Havertz may be able to play anywhere. The question is how well. So far he hasn't been the generational talent you promised he was. So... You watching games in Bundesliga doesn't really matter when it comes to me (or anyone else) forming their opinon on a player. Havertz is hardly a striker, he isn't a right midfielder and over time I'm sure his best position will be in a attacking midfield position. But so far he isn't quick or strong enough to play there.

    Whys that?

    Werner?

Every time someone disagrees with you, you come dragging with "but have you seen him play?". Havertz and Werner are two. in the end you didn't even seem to have ackowledged what positions both had played in.

My point is this - it's one thing being good in Germany and the CL. To do it consistently in the PL is something alltogether different. I like Håland, he has the physique and pace and I'm sure he would do well here. But for the money being bandied about I think he's vastly overpriced. Look at where the market is going for football in general. The money is quickly disappearing and the product is a lot worse today then it was 10 years ago.

That his agent is Mino Raiola is a big thing. That man is an absolute bellend and will cause us a lot more headache than it's worth. But it's a stupid discussion to have, there is about 0% chance that he will come here. He will go to Real, Man City or Man U.
